Gauteng can expect to have rain for the next week, says the South African Weather Service.
Johannesburg, Pretoria and Vereeniging can expect heavy rain fall on Thursday.
No floods are expected, however.
Forecaster Velentia Phakula says "Friday and Saturday into 1 January we are predicting 30% showers and thundershowers that are more likely in the afternoon".
She continued; "We are going to enter the new year on a wet note."
