On Christmas Day he had three performances and for New Year's Eve he will be playing at six events.

Recently he thrilled 40 000 fans at his #Filluproyalbafokengstadium concert.

The evening saw a blend of young, up-and-coming artists and some heavyweights like Shekhinah, Emtee, Black Motion, Major Leagues DJS, Nadia Nakai and Boity.

"In the new year I plan to take a break. I am still deciding where to go with my family. It may be an overseas holiday," said the rapper.

#Beauty & words - Zozibini Tunzi leads the inspiration race as we enter 2020 #MotivationMonday

When Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe, South Africa did a collective jump for joy.

Tunzi is the third South African to clinch the title, after Margaret Gardiner - who won it in 1978, and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters' win in 2017.

Speaking following her win, the beauty queen said she was ecstatic and thanked South Africans for their support from the beginning of her reign as Miss SA.

"I don't think I've ever had as much support as I did coming into the Miss South Africa crown so I think this will be something extra and very special for everyone back at home."

Pearl Thusi to rock 2020 #MondayMotivation

It's around 8pm on a blisteringly cold winter's night in downtown Joburg. We're at The Rand Club - that dusty bastion to the city's gold-mining roots and grand capitalist ambitions.

Founded in 1887 by Cecil John Rhodes and finished in 1904, the Rand Club would become home to the city's Randlords and power brokers; this is where the mightiest men of Johannesburg came to plot and scheme and enjoy their ill-gotten riches.

Today it's one of 37 locations for the filming of Queen Sono, director Kagiso Lediga's Pearl Thusi-starring action series, which is Netflix's first original African series.

Tonight the Rand Club is an embassy in Harare, and while a statue of Rhodes and a bust of Chief Albert Luthuli look stoically on, there are people bustling around the entrance hall, the bar, the bathrooms, the dining rooms, the gunroom, the staircase and the library - setting up lights, barking officiously over crackling walkie talkies, covering their inappropriate-for-the-weather skimpy evening gowns with blankets and overcoats while waiting for what happens next.

This is the constantly buzzing, behind-the-scenes world of filmmaking, where time is both of the essence and seems to slow down to a deathly pace.

While the lighting is changed and Lediga checks the monitors with cinematographer Motheo Moeng, the assistant director runs through the scene with Thusi, who's wearing a bright neon-coloured gown with a slit longer than a ravine in it.

Thusi walking up the club's ornate staircase and then down again and then up again and down.

At the top of the staircase weary-looking old men in stuffy suits chat while waiting to take their places or catch some sleep before the next shot.

A team of East Rand bouncer-looking types dressed in black suits practise their stunt work and a security guard looks on bemusedly.

It will take another hour before everything is ready.

Thusi glides down the staircase in her eye-catching dress and what will likely be only a few seconds of screen time is captured to the satisfaction of Lediga before it's on to the next shot and then 10pm for what is effectively a lunch break.

No one is expecting to be home before dawn and by this time tomorrow the Rand Club will return to being the Rand Club while the crew of Queen Sono will move on to the next of the 37 locations around the city.

The object of all this hustling and organised chaos is the capturing of series gold for the world's largest streaming service, and Lediga and the team at his production company, Diprente, look set to become the new Randlords of the South African film industry. It's not a role that comes without pressure and it's one producer Tamsin Andersson is well aware of.

She says: "On the one hand it's been very exciting and we've had a lot of support from other producers in the local industry who are also keen to work more globally and it's great that there are now opportunities to speak to the rest of the world and to platform to the rest of the world.

That comes with a certain amount of responsibility because no one wants us to create something shit."

Queen Sono is a multiepisode action adventure spy series starring Thusi as the titular character, who works in Johannesburg for a secret agency dedicated to the protection of Africa.

It's also all Thusi's fault really that everyone is shivering to death late at night.

"For as she recalls: "I've always wanted to play the lead in an international series, it's been a goal of mine for the longest time.

"While training for Scorpion King and rewatching my fight scenes, it sparked a vision in me - I wanted to create and star as the African version of Tomb Raider and tell innately African stories.

That's when I approached Kagiso Lediga, who I had previously worked with on Catching Feelings. I knew what I wanted for the character and was confident that Kagiso could help me bring it to life."

After selling the Johannesburg-based romantic comedy, Catching Feelings, to Netflix, Lediga, Thusi and the Diprente team pitched Queen Sono to the streaming service, which commissioned it.

For Lediga it was the right fit and not just because Netflix content is immediately available to almost 160 million people in 190 countries but also because he believes Netflix is focused on bringing African stories to the world.

Working with a brand that has this vision made the partnership seamless.

"Netflix absolutely encouraged and supported our creative freedom throughout the process as they understood the importance of telling the story of a Queen Sono in a unique and innately African way," says Lediga.

"This is the first script-toscreen African Netflix Original, which is mindblowing for us! What makes this show great is that Africa has always been used as a backdrop for big shows and films but has never been the hero.

"For the first time on a global stage, Africans have the opportunity to showcase their artistry to the world. I think audiences will be very excited about this, creating a huge sense of local pride."

Thusi hopes that when the show debuts in February next year audiences will revel in seeing a strong African character who also happens to be "a female badass".

You may not be able to catch her slinking down a staircase at the Rand Club again but you can be sure that the eyes of South Africa and the world will be watching Thusi and Queen Sono when those few seconds that it took so many people and hours to put on film make their appearance on Netflix on February 28 next year.

The #NewYearEve gift no one saw coming! Masasa Mbangeni AKA Thembeka Shezi returns to #Scandal

The biggest TV villainess of this decade Thembeka Shezi is back.

Actress Masasa Mbangeni is reprising the love-to-hate role that turned her into a household name.

In 2016, after playing TV's most cunning woman for four years, Mbangeni broke the hearts of six million South Africans when she left Scandal!.

After three and half years, she is ready to spread holiday cheer in the best way by wreaking havoc in the e.tv soapie.

"I'm so excited to be back. I was quite nervous too because I thought it has been years – a lot of things has changed, but a lot of things have also remained the same," Mbangeni says.

"Walking into the set the first time I was super nervous and it felt like the first time. But as soon as the camera started rolling it became familiar again.

"Contrary to popular belief, Scandal! and myself parted on very good terms. When I was asked to come back the timing made sense."

Mbangeni is making her return on December 31 and she's not the only troublemaker back in town.

Inxeba: The Wound actor Bongile Mantsai is making a comeback on December 30 after months off screen as Mthunzi Mayiza. Yes, Mthunzi and Thembeka are teaming up.

"Don't expect anything... expect the unexpected," Mbangeni teases.

"Playing with Bongile has been exciting. He's an incredible actor and he's incredibly generous. Working with Lusanda Mbane [Boniswa Langa] has been fantastic too. They have made me fall in love with Xhosa because my Xhosa is inadequate compared to what they speak."

During her time away from the show she had roles in TV shows such as The Republic, The River, Harvest, Hard Copy, Thola and It's Complicated.

Mbangeni also did a lot of theatre work and for a year was an acting teacher.

But no matter how hard she tried to escape it, everyone just wanted their Thembeka back. "It used to frustrate me. But I've come to realise that the love doesn't come from 'we don't think she can play anything else'," Mbangeni says.

"I've realised that she's one of those iconic characters like Ntsiki Lukhele (Pamela Nomvete), Archie Moroka (Sello Maake Ka-Ncube) and Cherel de Villiers (Michelle Botes)."

Looking at the state of acting in the country, Mbangeni says the climate is perfect for local actor to make big career moves.

"I think it's been a decade of growth. I don't take it for granted to be doing the work I do and in the economy that we live in."

Black women reign supreme at beauty pageants #WednesdayWisdom

When Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa was named Miss Universe on on Sunday, her crowning signified a milestone: the first year that four of the major beauty pageants had simultaneously awarded the top prize to a black woman.

Pageants have long been criticised for their antiquated beauty standards and, in many cases, outright racism or gender stereotyping.

While black women have been winners in the past – notably Vanessa Williams, who in 1984 was the first black woman to be named Miss America – they have never been as successful as this year.

Supporters of the women – Tunzi, Cheslie Kryst (this year's Miss USA), Kaliegh Garris (Miss Teen USA) and Nia Franklin (Miss America) – say the recognition sends a powerful message that beauty standards are evolving beyond Barbie-lite, or an era when contestants were prized solely for smooth hair, light skin colour and thin lips.

"Finally the universe is giving value to black skin," read an Instagram post from Leila Lopes, a former Miss Angola who was crowned Miss Universe in 2011. Oprah also praised Tunzi for her leadership. But perhaps the new Miss Universe put it best in her closing address on Sunday night.

"I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me, with my kind of skin and my kind of hair, was never considered beautiful," she told the audience. "I think it is time that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face. And I want them to see their faces reflected in mine."

Hilary Levey Friedman, a visiting professor of education at Brown University who is writing a book about beauty pageants, said a new definition of what it means to be a pageant winner was being embraced.

"The idea of what we think is beautiful has expanded," she said. "Skin colour. Body type. Curly hair. If you look at all this year's winners, they look like themselves."

This is a far cry from 1968, when women protested outside the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. They denounced the fact that the pageant had not had a black finalist since its inception in 1921. That night, they took part in their own pageant several blocks away.

Saundra Williams was crowned Black Miss America at that event, telling The New York Times: "With my title, I can show black women that they too are beautiful."

Since then, pageant standards have slowly evolved, even as the events' purpose has been called into question. Black women have also continued to remain underrepresented in corporate America and Congress.

Levey Friedman, who is white and whose mother, Pamela Eldred, was named Miss America for 1970, said that in researching her coming book, Here She Comes: The Tarnished Reign of the Beauty Pageant in America," she found that the number of women of colour participating in beauty pageants was on the rise.

According to her research, few to no women of colour were represented in the Miss USA pageant before the 1990s. Then Carole Gist won Miss USA in 1990, and Janel Bishop won Miss Teen USA in 1991. By the 2000s, Levey Friedman said, the number of contestants of colour had risen to double digits each yea.

"So many people have the stereotype that beauty queens are blond, have light eyes and a Barbie doll body," she said.

"Now you don't have to look like Barbie. There are different versions of beauty, and they are being accepted."

Sho Madjozi gets #KeDezembaBoss going with a BIG award #MondayMotivation

Sho Madjozi was honoured as a legend at the Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards hosted at Carnival City on Saturday.

Madjozi, whose real name is Maya Wegerif, made the Tsonga rap trend popular as far as in the US with her John Cena hit. 

She received another early Christmas gift as she scooped the best gqom artist award for her Limpopo Champions League album.

The flamboyant artist also bagged the newcomer and best female artist awards at the South African Music Awards and made history as the first Mzansi female to win the best international act category at the BET Awards in Los Angeles earlier this year.

The awards were hosted by musician and entrepreneur DJ Sbu and YFM DJ Tshepiso Ramabulana.

Surveys by Dublin-based PwC Research conducted in France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, the UK and South Africa, showed South African consumers plan to spend 36% more on Black Friday this year than in 2018.

With so many deals on Black Friday even the most seasoned discount shopper will be overwhelmed. But a challenge can be fun. Here's what you need to know to get the best deal.

1. Check out adverts and apps

Keep an eye out on ads in the newspapers and online. It will help you organise your day to maximise savings, because many stores offer special discounts that are time-specific, such as early bird sales and door-busters.

2. Do your research well before Friday

A bad product is a bad deal however cheap it is, and being knowledgeable about items you want to buy will help you avoid being suckerpunched with loud advertising for iffy deals.

3. Look for time-bound discounts

It used to be that the early-bird shopper would get all the best deals on Black Friday, but now some stores have different sales at different times of the day. These can range from door-buster prices to midnight madness and hourly specials in store sales – be aware so you don't miss a good deal.

4. Plan which mall you will be shopping at.

In general, the bigger the mall, the better. This means there will be a much bigger variety of stores where you can shop. Stores pit themselves against one another for customers, and this means you could end up picking up the same item you planned on buying from a different store. Like the bosses and high-earning mangers who will most probably go on holiday, lowly paid workers would also like to enjoy the festive season.

Taking the high cost of living and the huge inequality in salaries and living standards into account, bosses should pay "Robin Hood" bonuses: the highest-paid earners should receive the lowest bonus, and vice versa.

Workers and labourers, as the driving force of the economy, must be given proper and fair bonuses.

A philosophy that rewards hard work of employees will lead to happiness and higher productivity. Initially, paying bonuses can be painful to the pocket as it may mean less profit for the business. But, over time, this investment will yield good fruits.

If bosses really want to empower workers, address imbalances and inequalities and become transformational and progressive bosses, then the conditions of the working class need to be improved.

May I humbly request that employers show a spirit of big-heartedness and pay generous bonuses to employees who, in these challenging times of the high cost of living, are finding it difficult to afford the basic necessities of life

Rapper Gigi Lamayne launches App that helps jobseekers find work #Myfixer

Gigi Lamayne is spearheading the fight against unemployment by being a co-founder of an app that is aimed at creating job opportunities.

Laymane wants to be more than one of the best South African female artists and make a difference in her community.

Myfixer is an app that helps job seekers find employment, whether it is short or long term and was founded in 2015 due to the high unemployment rates in South Africa.

The digital launch of the programme took place on Saturday. "We are not saying that we're going to resolve all the country's unemployment issues, but we're definitely saying that it is an alternative if you're sitting at home and you don't know what to do with yourself," said Lamayne.

Some of the jobs offered on the app include home cleaning, hairdressing, painting, carpenting, domestic work, plumbing, tutoring, baby sitting, fitness coaching and more.

The rapper also said that people who wished to be a part of the programme had to go through a background check where their information would be verified.

Also, people who don't have qualifications may also apply, provided that they have good references.

Lamayne added that when one is part of the programme, they may have to attend a workshop event.

There they would be further assessed, assisted and provided with free uniforms and once hired, Myfixer would deduct 20% of the wages earned.

"We are doing everything from our own social and financial capital, we are actually looking for people to buy in.

"The people who make the biggest changes are people who can be selfless just for one minute in their power of influence, put down the mic sometimes and remember that you're actually dealing with people, there are real issues and try to work your way around it."

The programme is meant to create more jobs and reduce unemployment rates.

Lamayne said in order for it to run long enough to help a large number of people, sponsors need to come forward and invest in the future of not only the community but South Africa as a country.

Food hits and myths that will interest you #12DaysOfChristmas

FOOD-lovers are getting in a stew over whether to cook their carrots or throw away eggs.

A survey has revealed the most popular myths the nation still believes when it comes to their dinner.

Top was the old wives' tale that floating eggs are no longer safe to eat, with

30% believing it to be true. It was followed by 22% who think rice can't be reheated. Another 21% believe veg is better raw.

One in six of us thought bread kept in the fridge lasts longer. More than 13% feel that eating celery burns more calories than you gain by eating it and

11% believe eating chicken soup cures a cold.

The study, by electrical retailer Ao.com with Hotpoint, also showed only

25% of Brits cook with fresh ingredients every day.

South Africans gear up for #BlackFriday

The Black Friday craze is expected to once again take South Africa by storm as bargain buyers descend on shops.

"It is like being invited to a party, but not being told where the venue is," said Matthew Leighton, spokesperson for leading South African e-tailor OneDayOnly.co.za

Leighton said that Black Friday, which will be on November 29 became a big deal after following a trend started by the Americans.

"Black Friday is one of those things that got big in a short space of time and all of a sudden everyone in South Africa realised that 'Black Friday deals are a thing' and now we just need to go out and find them."

The inception of Black Friday began as a Thanksgiving sale by the US retailers and has become one of the most prominent calendar days for consumers and the retail industry across the globe.

"Black Friday may have started as a day where businesses pushed older stock for clearance purposes, but it has morphed into a stand-alone sale day driven by the fact that people know for certain that the very best deals are available." Black-Friday Global, a retail tracker, said 2018 Black Friday sales in South Africa increased by 19.52%.

With Black Friday around the corner, Leighton shared his "cheat sheet" for consumers to nab the best deals.

"Know your websites," he advised first-time online buyers and not-soseasoned Black Friday shoppers to get to grips with online shopping before the day to avoid performance anxiety.

"Dot your Is and cross your Ts." He said the best way to plan shopping is to create an ordered list of the items you want from high priority to low.

#PhoneReview: The #Vivo Z5 will snap those jingle bells moments this festive season

Vivo has launched its new smartphone, the Vivo Z5 in China, its home country, as the company's latest midrange offering.

The Vivo Z5 boasts of 6GB+ 64GB storage. The phone comes in three different colour options, namely Aurora Illusion, Bamboo Forest Night and

Holographic Illusion.

The new Vivo phone offers a 19.5:9 display with a waterdrop-style notch design. There is also Qualcomm's Snapdragon 712 SOC along with up to 8GB RAM.

For photos and videos, the Vivo Z5 spots a triple rear camera setup that includes a 48MP primary sensor with an f/1.79 lens. The camera setup also has an 8MP secondary sensor with a wide-angle f/2.2 lens and a 2MP tertiary sensor with an f/2.4 lens. For selfies, there is a 32MP sensor at the front that has an f/2.0 lens on top.

The Vivo Z5 comes preloaded with Super Night View 2.0+ to boost low-light camera quality and includes the proprietary Multi-turbo for an enhanced gaming experience.

Vivo has provided an artificial intelligence (AI) powered Beauty mode that is designed to recognise as many as 103 facial features to uplift your portraits. The Vivo Z5 supports OTG reverse charging and works with 22.5W Flash Charge fast charging technology.
