Nandi Madida gets adventurous on #MadeInAfrica

In their new reality show, Made In Africa, BET puts local designers to the test as they go on a quest to find the next big thing in fashion. Going along for the ride is TV personality Nandi Madida, who has taken up the role as host of the show.

Speaking to Channel24 ahead of the premiere, Nandi explained what viewers can expect. "Made In Africa is a reality fashion show, ten episodes, really riveting television because there's just a lot of cliff hangers. At some point it's very emotional. And I think it's because everyone there is genuinely passionate about fashion, including myself."

With fashion shows becoming a popular trend on local television, the presenter says what sets this one apart from the rest is its focus on Africa as a continent. "The reason I chose to be a part of such an amazing fashion show is because it includes the whole continent, and that we haven't seen before. That really excites me. It's something else to see how people work throughout the continent."

A successful designer herself, Nandi shared some of her top tips for making it in the industry. "First of all, find your aesthetic and ensure it's something that no one else can find anywhere else. That's the most important thing," she says.

The star also talks about the importance of being "willing to evolve" over time.

The final, but probably most vital, piece of advice she shares is this: "It's almost sad to say this, but it's just the truth cause I like to be practical – you need to find funding too. And that's in terms of support for your collection. Cause financially it's very taxing. And that's something that people don't speak about a lot but it's the absolute truth."

Made In Africa premieres on 30 May at 21:00 on BET (DStv 129).

Government to rollout campaign to educate women about the dangers of #blessers

The government is ready to teach young women about the dangers of blessers.

Deputy president David Mabuza said it  will roll out a campaign to educate them about the dangers of being lured by older men with money.

Mabuza recently told parliament that the abuse of young women has reached alarming levels and many cases are reported daily.

He said this led to the increase of sexually transmitted infections, as well as HIV among young people.

Mabuza said they will organise campaigns to teach young women about the issue.

"The attitude of men, especially older men, must change,"he said.

Tichina Arnold ready to captivate viewers on #Lockdown #MzansiMagic

Actress and singer Tichina Arnold is currently in South Africa filming scenes for the Mzansi Magic drama Lockdown.

Best known for her role as Pam in the popular 90s comedy Martin, she recently starred in Survivors Remorse and Daytime Divas on 1Magic (DStv 103).

During a telephone interview with Channel24 Tichina fills us in on how she got involved with the show, her character and what she's most looking forward to during her time in Mzansi.

Talking about how she got the role, Tichina says it was through a business friend of hers.

"Bart Philipps and I used to work on Triumph Awards. He called me up and said 'I have a very great opportunity for you in South Africa. I know Mandla N [creater and producer] and he has a show called Lockdown and I want you to talk to him."

She continues: "And that's exactly what I did. After speaking with him and how passionate he was about telling the black woman story of incarceration, which is a systemic problem we have in America as well, I was all for it – I am all in!"

Tichina, who has only seen snippets of the show, plans to binge watch the previous seasons to get up to speed with the show.

MORE ABOUT HER ROLE

Tichina will be playing Paulette, an American woman who gets locked up in a South African prison.

"Her goals are a little different, why she's there and what she's trying to achieve, I don't want to give it away. But how she carries herself in prison is a completely different way. She is going to be a force to be reckoned with."

Her character will be featured in nine episodes which she is set to film in the next two weeks.

A big part of Lockdown's appeal is the emotive soundtrack. When asked if she will be doing any singing Tichina says that she doesn't know if her character will sing in the show but wants to put her music out as well.

Lockdown season 3 will be back on television screens from Monday,  9 July on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161).

What's the difference between #philanthropy and #charity

There's a widely held belief that philanthropy is the same thing as charity. It's an understandable misperception because while the purpose of charitable giving is primarily to alleviate the suffering caused by social problems; philanthropy works mainly to address and reverse the cause of that suffering.

Deblina Rout, well-known author on Letsendorse.com states that, "It is important to note that philanthropy is noticeably different from charity, because charity focuses on eliminating the suffering caused by social problems, while philanthropy focuses on eliminating social problems".

Philanthropic giving often has a clear strategy to influence systemic change improve humanity. "Such philanthropy is important for the sustainable wellbeing of all South Africans. Individuals and businesses seek to elevate their giving beyond mere charity and, instead, leverage their financial resources to help eliminate social problems and environmental challenges," says Prince Siluma, Head of FNB Philanthropy.

He adds, "Despite tougher trading conditions in almost every sector of the economy, corporate South Africa continues to demonstrate its commitment to social transformation through corporate social investment (CSI). The growth of philanthropy by individuals and corporates, has gained momentum in the past few years.  It is a fundamental component of an effectively functioning democratic society and exists to facilitate transformative giving by South Africans who have a desire to leverage their resources; and in many cases their skills that will contribute to positive impact on individuals, communities and the environment."

According to the 2017 Trialogue CSI Hand Book, it is reported that the total CSI expenditure in South Africa was estimated to be R9.1 billion in 2017, significantly up from R8.6 billion in 2016. Trialogue has observed that CSI has become more strategic. The report indicated that the CSI expenditure has mostly benefitted the education sector, which continues to receive the most support with over 91% of companies supporting the sector in 2017.

"The desire of many individuals and organisations to give often fails to translate into effective philanthropic action, mainly because of a lack of access to effective ways of channelling, and monitoring the impact of that giving," says Siluma.

Like most true philanthropists, customers are not interested in giving merely for the sake of giving, or for the emotional benefits that it achieves. Nor do they merely give to benefit from the tax benefits associated with such giving. "People have a sincere desire to give to effect sustainable social change and the betterment of society. And they recognise that, when undertaken effectively, such giving not only benefits the less privileged; it creates a virtuous circle in which all of society is eventually uplifted thanks to sustained socio-economic change," says Siluma

Philanthropic intentions are often thwarted by concerns about whether the funds people donate would achieve the outcomes for which they were intended. "There needs to be passion for social transformation. And we live that passion by enabling individuals to practice true philanthropy that achieve maximum social development impact which creates the means for effective delivery on what is identified as a key social purpose, and in doing so will help build an equitable, inclusive, equal opportunity society that all South Africans desire," concludes Siluma.

Plans underway to rename #CapeTown International airport

Plans are underway to rename Cape Town International Airport, with a public participation meeting set to be held next week. But not everyone is happy about it.

The names of four Struggle icons are being considered.

The Transport Ministry confirmed that proposals had been received for the renaming of the airport - a national key point - after Nelson Mandela, Albertina Sisulu, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela or Robert Sobukwe. Other names would also be considered, it said.

The Airports Company of SA (Acsa), in an official notice, said a public participation meeting would be held at the airport at 6pm on Monday.

"Acsa Cape Town International will be undergoing a name change as part of the Transformation of Heritage Landscape government programme," the notice read.

Janine Myburgh, president of the Cape Chamber of Commerce, said there were more pressing issues than renaming the airport.

"We understand the political pressure for a new name, but it is likely to be controversial and that will mean another distracting problem, as well as the costs of all the new signs and rebranding," she said.

"Cape Town Airport is a politically neutral name that enjoys worldwide acceptance. It is an established brand and we should build on it rather than start all over again with a new name. Airports like Heathrow have huge investments in their names, and the brands are so strong that it is not necessary to attach the names of the cities they serve. We should learn from them," she said.

Myburgh added that Cape Town was an international destination and needed a name that enjoyed international recognition.

"The airport is being redeveloped with a second runway and it will see a lot more international traffic in the future. We already have an increasing number of direct flights from international destinations and this pattern is set to continue. We can't think of a better name than Cape Town Airport, and we hope this will be realised when all the suggested names are on the table," she said.

#KFC is giving ray of hope this #WorldHungerDay through #AddHope

Add Hope, a powerful initiative that unites KFC customers and staff in the fight against hunger, now feeds over 120 000 children nutritious meals, partnering with 138 beneficiaries across South Africa.

Leading up to World Hunger Day on May 28, Add Hope has been collecting inspirational messages of hope from people all over South Africa and sharing them on radio and social platforms. Finally, the collection of voices will be crafted into one message of hope against hunger, created by South Africans and shared broadly in print, broadcast and social media.

"Add Hope has voices, many voices. The carers, children, leaders, advocates, ambassadors, team members, and ultimately – all the customers who generously donate," says Thabisa Mkhwanazi, KFC Public Affairs Director for Africa and Add Hope Champion.

"We believe all are voices worth listening to. This World Hunger Day, we'd like to give everyone a platform to share their messages of hope and to have their voice heard. And because it's all about adding hope to people's lives, those who send in the most inspiring messages of hope will have the opportunity to donate R10 000 to the charity of their choice."

The KFC Voices of Hope radio competition will run on three regional radio stations, 947, KFM and Gagazi from May 21 to 28. To enter, listeners can voicenote their message of hope to 063 992 2740 (947), 064 091 1609 (KFM) or 071 892 1297 (GAGAZI). A total of R80 000 will be given out in total on radio.

People will have more opportunities to share messages of hope via video on theKFC Facebook page or follow KFC South Africa on Twitter.

Mkhwanazi says anyone who has ever donated to Add Hope is part of creating hope for South Africa's children. "The Global Nutrition Report shows that as many as one in five children in South Africa are suffering from stunted growth and learning difficulties. This is a crisis and we have to turn the tide on hunger and malnutrition. Better nutrition has a lasting impact on development, giving the next generation hope by boosting their potential. Every time you Add Hope, and that's why we call it Add Hope, you actually give a child so much more than food, you give them hope for the future."

Add Hope raised R49 million in donations in 2017, with every cent of customer donations going towards feeding children. Over the past eight years, Add Hope has raised just over R492 million in customer donations and KFC Corporate Social Responsibility contributions combined since 2009.

Mkhwanazi says, "Add Hope is really about the power of the collective to do something about a major social issue. We're proud of this unique partnership with our customers and passionate about the cause of hunger relief. The more we can raise together, the more children we can help, making sure hope is stronger than hunger."

Add your voice and your donation this World Hunger Day and help Add Hope to raise R4 million in May to feed children around the country.

Trevor Noah had a cameo role on #BlackPanther and very few noticed

Here's something we've come to realize of late: There's always a cameo.

If you're watching a modern big-budget movie, there's a good chance that some A-lister is hiding on the fringes, whether it be Daniel Craig and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in The Last Jedi, Kevin Smith in The Force Awakens.

It appeared, however, that Marvel's Black Panther was the exception to this rule until one Redditor took a closer look at the film's closing credits and noticed Daily Show host Trevor Noah.

If the name Griot doesn't ring a bell, it's because it wasn't a character so much as a bit of technology. Noah's soothing voice manifests as the AI of the Shuri-invented Wakandan ship piloted by Martin Freeman's Everett Ross during the film's final battle.

Noah's cameo comes as something of a surprise when one considers that the South African host never once spoiled it during his several on-air discussions of the film. After its release, he praised the film in a monologue that found him giddy over its use of Xhosa, an official language of his native Johannesburg.

"It was extra special for me because the people speak Xhosa in the movie," he said at the time. "There were subtitles, and I was like, I don't need your subtitles! I don't need your subtitles! This is just for me right now! Nobody else listen! This reminds me of my mom."

April #inflation surprises on the low side

April headline inflation surprised on the low side, printing at 4.5% y/y, below our expectations of 4.8%. Core inflation, which strips out food and non-alcoholic beverages, fuel and energy accelerated to 4.5% y/y from 4.1% the previous month.

While the impact of the hikes in the April fuel levy and sin taxes were immediately evident, the pass through of the VAT increase was more muted, suggesting that retailers have been absorbing some of the cost increases.

The 69c per litre fuel price increase in the month saw fuel inflation jump from 2.9% y/y in March to 9% in April, while higher sin taxes and the imposition of a sugar tax saw alcoholic beverage inflation climb to 6% y/y from 5.2% in March and cold beverage inflation (sugary drinks) leap to 6.1% y/y from 2.1% the month before. Stripping out the impact of these increases brings the April inflation number closer to 4.1%. Food inflation was more or less unchanged at 3.7% y/y while the meat component decelerated from 10% y/y in March to 9%. Durable goods inflation does appear to be picking up pace as demand begins to increase off a very low base.

Overall, the number paints a picture of still well contained inflation and while we do expect retailers to begin passing the higher VAT costs on to consumer over the coming months (once all their pricing systems have been updated), inflation is likely to remain around the 5% mark until the end of the year. We do, however, acknowledge the growing risk posed by a softer rand (on the back of a strong dollar) and an oil price that is hovering at the $80 per barrel mark.

The April inflation number, which printed below consensus, strengthens the case for the Reserve Bank to keep interest rates on hold at tomorrow's briefing, and we expect rates to remain flat for the balance of the year.

#ABDeVilliers retires from all forms of cricket. Full Statement

Standard Bank Proteas batman, AB de Villiers, today announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket with immediate effect. De Villiers bows out of international cricket as one of the greatest players to have represented South Africa, having played 114 Tests, 228 One-Day Internationals (ODI) and 78 T20 Internationals.

The 34-year-old says 'the time is right' for him to hang up his boots, bringing a close to a sterling 14-year career.

"I have decided to retire from all international cricket with immediate effect," he said on Wednesday. "After 114 Test matches, 228 ODI's and 78 T20 Internationals, it is time for others to take over. I have had my turn, and to be honest, I am tired.

"This is a tough decision, I have thought long and hard about it and I'd like to retire while still playing decent cricket. After the fantastic series wins against India and Australia, now feels like the right time to step aside.

"It would not be right for me to pick and choose where, when and in what format I play for the Proteas. For me, in the green and gold, it must be everything or nothing. I will always be grateful to the coaches and staff of Cricket South Africa for their support through all these years. The most important thank you goes out to all of my team mates throughout my career, I wouldn't be half the player that I am without the support throughout the years.

" It's not about earning more somewhere else, it's about running out of gas and feeling that it is the right time to move on. Everything comes to an end. To the cricket fans around South Africa and the World, thank you for your kindness and generosity, and today, for your understanding.

" I have no plans to play overseas, in fact, I hope I can continue to be available for the Titans in domestic cricket. I will continue to be the biggest supporter of Faf du Plessis and the Proteas."

His records and statistics are a true measure of the skill and brilliance he brought to the crease. He holds a phenomenal number of milestones to his name; the World Record for the fastest ODI 50 (16 balls), 100 (31 balls) and 150 (64 balls), the second highest individual Test score for South Africa (278*), the highest points (935) by a South African on the ICC Test rankings and has claimed the coveted SA Cricketer of the Year award twice (2014 and 2015).

He retires with an incredible Test average of 50.66 and as the fourth-highest run-scorer for South Africa with 8765 runs (22 100's). His exploits in the limited-overs formats have been extraordinary, and he finishes as the No.2 ranked player in the world and as the second highest run-scorer behind Jacques Kallis with 9577 runs at an average of 53.50.

5 things to include in your domestic workers contract

Employment contracts are very important in safeguarding the rights of both the employer and employee. When entering into an agreement whereby one party agrees to offer services to another party, a valid contract that clearly stipulates the agreement has to be signed.

"This is equally important for individuals who hire helpers around the house," says Tertius Bossert, Operations Manager at FNB Law on Call, as he breaks down important information that a domestic worker's contract should entail:

Job description: The employment contract must specify your employee's job title and a description of the work that will be carried out. This is to ensure that both parties are on the same page in terms of what to expect and what is expected from each other.

Working hours: It is worth noting that working hours cannot be more than the 45 hours a week that is prescribed in the country's labour laws, which can be broken down into nine hours a day for a five day work week or eight hours a day for a six day work week. Any additionally hours are considered overtime.

Remuneration: Employers have to adhere to domestic worker's minimum wages set by the Department of Labour which clearly stipulate that domestic workers who work in urban areas earn a minimum of 13.05 per hour whereas those working at non-urban areas earn a minimum of R11.89 per hour.  These rates are, however currently under review.

Leave days: Statutory leave such as annual leave, sick leave, maternity leave and family responsibility leave should be stipulated in the employment contract. In cases where the employee needs to take leave, she will have to apply for leave with her employer.

Notice period: the contract needs to include the notice period in the event that one party wishes to terminate the contract. One week notice is often given if the domestic worker is employed for one month or less, two weeks' notice if employed for more than 1 month, but less than 12 months, and  four weeks' notice if employed for more than twelve months. The termination of employment should be in writing unless if the employee is unable to read or write. In this case termination can also be verbal.

Bossert says, "It is always advisable to consult an attorney to assist in reviewing the contract to ensure that there are no mistakes. For consumers that cannot afford an attorney, there are service provides that offer consumers legal counsel  such as labour matters, civil matters, criminal matters, reviewing contracts, drafting of a will at an affordable monthly premium. For example, FNB Law On Call offers these services for R75 a month.

"When agreeing to hire someone, it is important that there's an agreement in writing. This is to protect both parties in the case of any disputes and contracts are there to serve this purpose which can be highly beneficial to both parties," concludes Bossert.

Russian Bear's #IAMNEXT campaign is back! And this time, they're taking it to the next level. The vodka that ignites urban cool is calling on aspiring hip hop artists to enter this year's competition and drop their fiercest lyrics. The prize? A chance of scoring a collab single with award-winning South African rapper, Kid X, plus a music video powered by MTV Base.

"When Russian Bear approached me, I could not let this opportunity pass by. I followed the #IAMNEXT campaign last year with Kwesta, and was inspired by the opportunities that the campaign provided for up-and-coming artists in South African communities. I can't wait to go on this journey with the fans and look forward to us taking #IAMNEXT to the next level together," says Kid X.

Russian Bear will once again be bringing their dope mobile recording studio and Raplyf's beat maker/ producer, Gobi Beast, to your hood to collect entries. So, if you know you have next level bars that stand out from the rest, all you have to do is purchase a bottle of Russian Bear 750ml or 1litre, head over to the #IAMNEXT website www.russianbear.co.za, register your barcode and book your recording slot. If you can't pre-register, no stress, there will be four slots open at each event on a first come, first serve basis.

We hope that fans are ready and inspired to level up this year and show us what they've got. We look forward to embarking on this journey once again and discovering the best of what the SA hip hop scene has to offer." says Russian Bear Brand Manager, Simone Burns.

A #Mzansi #RoyalWedding - Dineo Moeketsi plans talk of the town wedding

WHILE Pearl Modiadie put her nuptials on ice, it is only a matter of weeks before sultry actress Dineo Moeketsi walks down the aisle with her long-time rapper beau Zothile Langa, 29, better known as Solo.

According to the couple's close friends, preparations are in full swing for what will be Moeketsi's fairy-tale wedding.

The couple, who have been together for six years will start with a traditional wedding ceremony at a date still to be announced.

"She's currently weighing her options in terms of outfits, so she's meeting up with different designers to get an idea of what her and soon-to-be hubby's traditional outfits should look like and she's very excited," one friend said.

The friend, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that Dineo who is adored by many for her role as Kea on The Queen wants to be involved in every aspect of the planning process so she could make sure that her big day happens just the way she envisioned it.

"She wants nothing but perfection for her big day, which is why everything will be done her way," said the pal.

Ironically, Dineo's wedding will come at a time when she has been through a lot with relationships on The Queen.

Another friend said the 29-year-old actress' wedding will take place in a few weeks at an undisclosed venue in Joburg.

"Being the very private person that Dineo is, she's keeping things as quiet as possible because she wants to surprise everyone and doesn't want to be predictable."

The couple will also have a white wedding ceremony later in the year, the friend said.

"She's pulling out all the stops for her white wedding as well. We all know she loves fashion, so she's making sure that she is the talk of the town. She's making sure to give very specific instructions to the designer as to how her dress should look like."

A third friend said both the couple's families are over the moon about the pair's upcoming nuptials because the couple has been through a lot together.

"It's very rare to find relationships that last this long in the entertainment industry because there's so much going on and people's egos sometimes get in the way of their relationships.

"But Dineo and Solo proved that a relationship can work despite the fact that they are both in show business. Their love for each other is unwavering, which is why they both have the support of their families," said the bud. —SundayWorld.

What would your kid do? Exciting new show #DStv #ITV

What Would Your Kid Do? - a brand new entertainment show coming to ITV Choice (DStv 123) from Friday, June 1 at 20:00 - sees parents challenged to guess how their children will behave in a variety of situations, merging specialist factual child development psychology with an entertaining game show mechanic.

Children are filmed in a real world setting, thinking it's just another day at school and unassumingly going through a number of tasks that explore everything from curiosity to lateral thinking, risk taking to rule breaking.

As the situations unfold, host Jason Manford observes alongside the parents as they try to predict what their child will do in each situation, providing a fascinating and often hilarious insight into the developing minds of 5, 6 and 7 year-olds.

Manford also has a few surprises up his sleeve that will see him join the children in their world.

At the end of the show, the parents who have shown they know their child the best, and correctly predicted their behaviour, will play for a family prize alongside their child.

Says Manford: "Even for someone like me who has five kids, the children on the show never cease to amaze. The whole way through filming I was thinking what would my kids do in that situation and even with my own children I know they'd react differently. It also makes you think if you're a kid what would you do.

"The various set ups on the show were devised by expert child psychologists so they're actual tests they do to kids at this age. The responses and reactions were genuinely fascinating as well as being really funny. Every kid was so different and it was great to see the parents' genuine shock because everyone thinks that their own little kid is an angel!"

#CIT robbers using military tactics?

Gauteng has the unwanted tag of being labelled the top province for cash-in-transit heists, while police are no match for the bravado of these dangerous criminals.

The brazen and dramatic robbery that shocked Boksburg residents early on Thursday was the 10th to occur in the province in the past 17 days, according to a source within the Hawks' National Bureau for Illegal Firearm Control and Priority Violent Crime.

So far this year, Gauteng has recorded an average of eight to 12 robberies per month.

"Cash heist robbers have become brazen and there are a couple of contributing factors.

"One is that people are living in abject poverty, and crime seems to be the only way out for them. We have also picked up on videos of the heists shared on social media that they have had some form of military training," according to the source.

"It's in the way they carry their assault rifles when they execute these crimes. They carry them in a certain way that an ordinary police officer doesn't.

"They are professional, well trained and use tactics that are only taught in the army," the officer said.

He said the use of extremely loud explosives to gain access to armoured vans was one of the common scare tactics applied to frighten bystanders.

"That is why they can execute this crime in heavy traffic and in broad daylight," he pointed out.

The portfolio committee on police on Thursday said it would invite all stakeholders from major private security companies, Business Against Crime, the SA Banking Risk Information Centre (Sabric), the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority and the Private Security Association to a meeting next month to try to find solutions, chairperson Francois Beukman said.

Motorists were forced to brake and veer off the road, while pedestrians and street vendors took cover when a gang of more than 10 men armed with high-calibre assault rifles targeted two cash vans after they had collected cash from a depot in Ekurhuleni.

Video footage circulating on social media showed the gunmen travelling in an SUV and BMW 5-Series, shooting at the two vans and forcing them to stop at the busy intersection of Atlas and North Rand roads.

A two-minute gunbattle erupted between them and the guards before explosions rocked both of the vans.

The thugs fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, leaving behind seven bags of cash.

At least eight people - including two pedestrians and two guards - were injured.

Five robbers were later arrested on the M2, and police searched for more criminals at George Goch Hostel near City Deep.

Dr Johan Burger of the Institute for Security Studies blamed the police's poor intelligence in tracking down criminals and their inability to handle firearms, as major contributing factors in the spike in cash heists.

"These criminals know how to select their members based on their capabilities to handle firearms, drive fast cars and use explosives. Looking at these qualities, an ordinary police officer would be totally disadvantaged.

"Our police shoot poorly because the majority of them have failed gun competency tests," Burger pointed out.

"Criminals don't fear or respect the police because they are far advanced and, in some instances, have military training to their advantage," he added.

How to begin #dating after a long distance #relationship

After having been in a long-term relationship, getting back into the dating world can prove to be tricky, if not, a difficult task.

You've become so used to one person's habits, temper and way of life among other things, going back out there to start right from the beginning is not an easy dynamic to navigate.

CHALLENGES

Counselling Psychologist, Banetsi Mphunga, outlines some of the challenges that someone who finds themselves in this predicament faces.

"Depending on one's reason for exiting that relationship, the person is more likely to enter a new relationship on guard, so that whatever happened in the person's previous relationship doesn't happen again," Mphunga says.

"Also, often times the person will have a lot of trust issues, and a deep-set sense of insecurity to such an extent that everything that the person will do will be for the approval of the other party in the relationship, in an effort to prove to the partner that he/she is enough for the them."

Mphunga also says that one could also be emotionally unavailable in the new relationship because he/she entered into it not because he/she wanted to, but because the situation one found him/herself called for it.

"Maybe one came out of a relationship that had financial security and is looking for that financial security in another relationship, this can lead to being absent in the new relationship," he explains.

OVERCOMING THESE CHALLENGES

Overcoming these challenges, in big part, has a lot to do with a changing of one's mindset and a letting go of expectations Mphunga says.

"I often tell my clients that they should take a new relationship as a new leaf; a turning of a new page. Don't come with high expectations because you're starting something that you are not sure about. A new relationship is always unpredictable," he says.

He goes on further to say that when you come into a new relationship with a blank page, then you and your newly acquired partner will be able to go through the relationship without the baggage both of you might carry from your old relationships.

MISTAKES TO AVOID

Mphunga again reiterates that the biggest mistake one should avoid when entering a new relationship is the high expectations, which include looking for traits in your new partner that you're old partner had.

"One might've come out a relationship where one's partner was either quite controlling or submissive, the mistake made here is that one might expect that his/her new partner will conform to these roles and this might not be the case," he says.

Also, Mphunga explains that often when one comes out of a financially benefitting relationship, it's highly likely that when one comes out of that relationship, they will feel exposed and left with nothing. This will often lead the person to look for someone that will provide the same things that the person has been used to for years.

"This will end up with the person not only compromising his/her values, but also compromising him/herself and won't foster a happy and healthy relationship," he explains.

Essentially, it all goes back to an individual managing their expectations as they jump back into the dating pool.

HOW TO KNOW THAT YOU'RE READY

Now, before one even gets into another relationship after having spent a bulk of his/her adult life with one person, the biggest thing to ponder is: "Am I ready?"

It's not uncommon for one to go through immense emotional turmoil following this type of break-up, and this is what Mphunga refers to as Post Break-Up Stress/ Post Divorce Stress.

Following or even during this stage, is when one needs to find themselves again as an individual body. Mphunga says that this is also the time when one should look back at his/her past relationship introspectively and figure out how one can do things better the next time.

"One needs to ponder on him/herself, and his/her ideals. And through this process, one can figure out what it is he/she wants, and what it is he/she are unwilling to compromise on," Mphunga explains.

"Also one should immerse him/herself into a lot of recreational activities, socialising with people before jumping into the next relationship," he says.

Taraji P Henson says yes!

Empire actress Taraji P Henson says "yes" to athlete partner Kevin Hayden

After being together for a little over two years, Hayden got down on one knee and proposed. He gave his partner a Cartier love bracelet to go with it.

Alongside a photo of her gorgeous ring and some chocolate-dipped strawberries, Henson wrote: "I said yes y'all!!! He started with the Cartier love bracelet BUT that was my #Mothersday gift and then he dropped to his knee and I almost passed out!!!"

I said yes y'all!!! He started with the Cartier love bracelet BUT that was my #Mothersday gift and then he dropped to his knee and I almost passed out!!! #sheisofficiallyoffthemarket and she is sooooooooooooo HAPPY!!!!!! #GODIS

A post shared by taraji p henson (@tarajiphenson) on May 14, 2018 at 5:29am PDT

After keeping their relationship under the radar, Henson only confirmed that she had been dating Hayden for two years during an episode of Essence's podcast Yes, Girl! in December.

When asked why she decided to confirm her relationship, she said: "It wasn't even about talking about my life, he just asked me if I was happy and I said, 'I'm very happy' and they just ran with it."

CONGRATULATIONS!

Top 5 songs for week ending 12 May #Billboard #PostMalone #Drake #Bebe #ArianaGrande #NiceForWhat

We're on the move with the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles chart, for the week ending May 12, 2018.

This is one of those exciting weeks when we welcome a Hot Shot Debut in the Top Five.

Number 5: Post Malone & Ty Dolla $ign "Psycho"

Let's open in fifth place, where Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign dip a notch with "Psycho."  Post's "Beerbongs & Bentleys" album tops the latest Billboard 200 chart, after posting 2018's best first-week sales. It opened with 461,000 total copies — the best showing since Taylor Swift's "Reputation" became an instant million-seller last November.

Number 4: Bebe Rexha & Florida Georgia Line "Meant To Be"

Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line weaken a slot to fourth place with "Meant To Be" — which continues to rule the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. From Nelly to the Backstreet Boys, Florida Georgia Line has ruled the charts with their pop collaborations. Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley are working on their fourth album, and tell People magazine that they'd love to cut some music with Migos and Cardi B.

Number 3: Ariana Grande "No Tears Left to Cry"

We mentioned we get a Hot Shot Debut this week, and it happens in third place. Everybody, welcome back Ariana Grande with "No Tears Left To Cry." It's her best countdown showing since 2014, when "Bang Bang" with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj also made it to No. 3. Ariana has titled her upcoming fourth album "Sweetener," and we should get it in July. It's her first album since last May's bombing following an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England. The tragedy claimed 22 lives.

Number 2: Drake "God's Plan"
We have back-to-back Drake hits again this week, and there's no sugar-coating this: His favorite sports team again went down in flames.  Drake is a big fan of his hometown Toronto Raptors basketball team. For the second straight year, LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers swept the Raptors in the NBA playoffs. The Cavs have beaten the Raptors in 10 consecutive playoff games dating back to 2016. That's the longest streak of its kind in league history. We do have some good news for Drake: He's still the champion of the Hot 100, as "Nice For What" spends a third week at No. 1.
Number 1: Drake "Nice For What"

Drake reigns atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a third week with "Nice For What." Rihanna recently told Vogue that she and Drake were no longer friends … and he promptly unfollowed her on Instagram. Maybe they'll be friends again by next week. In any event, we'll return and we hope you will, too.

#Vodacom revenue up 6,3% to R86,4bn

Mobile phone company Vodacom said on Monday that its revenue grew by 6,3 percent to R86,4 billion and it added seven million customers in the year to March.

Headline earnings per share remained constant at 923 cents per share, and the company declared a final dividend per share of 425 cents.

Vodacom's sustained investment in customer and network experience across its operations was a major factor in attracting an additional 4,5 million customers in South Africa and 2,5 million internationally, group CEO Shameel Joosub said.

Despite a tougher economic environment in South Africa, big data-led innovations contributed to robust demand for personalised bundles and a 4,9 percent growth in service revenue.

Strong device sales, cost optimisation measures and the effective execution of Vodacom's pricing transformation programme also played a major role in the sound commercial performance in its largest market.

"Our accelerated rural coverage programme was instrumental in Vodacom becoming the continent's first operator to reach 80 percent population coverage on a 4G network," Joosub said.

The company said it was encouraged by the renewed economic and political stability in South Africa and larger international operations, including Kenya, but warned that unexpected volatility in political environment, economic growth, currency and regulatory uncertainty continued to pose a risk.

Cell C's Take a Girl Child to Work Day® has become one of the most important life changing campaigns for schoolgirls around the country. The much-lauded initiative – which celebrates its 16th anniversary this year – has had a powerful impact on the lives of more than a million girls, preparing a core of future women leaders who will be vibrant contributors to the economy, and leading job creators for our country.

However, this year Cell C is encouraging South Africans not to host girls on one day only, but to be involved throughout the whole year, driving its #morethanaday initiative.

Annually, Take a Girl Child to Work Day® is hosted by more than 750 corporates and continues to spark the debate on the role of socio-economic development and the promotion of gender equality.

Says Suzette van der Merwe, Cell C Managing Executive: Corporate Social Investment: "This year's theme encourages us all to do more. Cell C intends to extend its one day to four days this year. We have partnered with high schools in close proximity to our various regional offices and will host the same high school pupils for various workshops throughout the year. This will enable us to develop a meaningful and sustainable programme that will extend over a period of time, improving their skills and knowledge of the workplace.

"We complement our gender development programme with bursaries for girls via the Cell C Girl Child Bursary Fund as well as our robust internship programme. We encourage other corporates to consider adopting a longer term and sustainable approach too, inviting young women to their place of work, allowing them to job shadow and explore various careers and interests."

The 12 current Miss SA 2018 finalists also joined today's event.

Year-on-year since 2014, Cell C has been offering internship opportunities to the finalists, many of whom have become full time employees following their internship year.

Tips for managing your #inheritance

An inheritance can be a great financial bonus; but if not managed correctly will also pose a few challenges. Receiving a windfall is great and the urge to just spend it quickly is quite tempting.

"Resist the urge to use the money, let it sink in first and put the money in a short-term bank deposit while working out what you want to do with it. Don't tell anyone about your windfall. It's amazing how people suddenly want to be part of your best friend circle once they find out about your inheritance," says Ester Ochse, FNB Financial Advisory Product Specialist.

She suggests the following tips to managing your inheritance:

Say no to impulse purchases:Rather wait to get a full financial plan from a financial advisor which will help you ascertain where your money should be invested.Understand the implications of your inheritance: This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that will put you on the path of wealth creation. Research and understanding on how and when to use your inheritance is an important initial step in this process.Do not resign from your job: Money does not last forever. For example; If you draw an income of R30 000 per month from R2 500 000.00 - you could run out of money in 10 years which is not ideal and a good place to be in. The golden rule is to stay in your job. This will help ensure you are financially secure in the long-term.Have a personal finance day:Conduct a dipstick and determine what your priorities are, and ask yourself the following questions: What is your financial position and do you have debt; both short term and long term?Make a list of who you owe and what the rate of interest is. If you have short term debt, like store cards, pay these off first especially the high interest amounts. Then put these funds away for three months' worth of expenses.Portion the funds: Part of your funds can go to retirement funding, education and then to true wealth creation.Diversify, diversify, and diversify: It is important that you diversify; which will help you get exposure to all sorts of asset classes and will ensure that your goals are met over the long term. This will happen by including growth assets like shares and property.Enlist the help of a financial advisor:A qualified financial advisor will help you ensure that there is proper planning and investment for your long and short term goals. Managing finances can be complex but the financial advisor will help you direct your money towards your needs.

"Advice from a professional financial advisor will help you manage your inheritance better. If invested correctly; you and your family will benefit greatly in the long term," concludes Ochse.

#Mahindra joins Survivor South Africa, one lucky fan poised to #win brand new car

This year, one lucky fan of the Survivor series will win a brand-new Mahindra XUV500 W8 Automatic, thanks to the sponsorship agreement between Mahindra South Africa, DStv and the series' producers.

The agreement sees Mahindra join as vehicle sponsor and advertiser for this highly popular production that was filmed in the Philippines and which started airing last week. During the series, 18 contestants compete for the title of South Africa's Survivor.

Says Rajesh Gupta, the newly appointed CEO of Mahindra South Africa: "Mahindra landed in South Africa in 2004 to challenge the large, established vehicle manufacturers with its range of tough and rugged, reliable and value-for-money pick-ups and SUVs.

"When DStv presented us with the opportunity to associate ourselves with Survivor, whose fundamental purpose is to put contestants to the test in the harshest conditions where they have to outwit, outplay and outlast their fellow competitors, we saw a strong connection between the spirit of the game, the Mahindra brand and our range of vehicles."

Nikki Lewin, Managing Director at Mahindra's media agency Alphabet Soup, agrees: "This sponsorship is an ideal fit for Mahindra. It will help the brand to gain greater penetration into the South African vehicle market and will for the first time be associated with a reality series that delivers to a uniquely South African audience. The partnership will be leveraged across M-Net and other channels, as well as digital and social media platforms. We are excited to be a part of this opportunity."

To best make use of the new opportunity, Mahindra has partnered with the award-winning agency, Joe Public United, to create an integrated marketing campaign that will also introduce the public to Mahindra's campaign slogan, 'Always up for the challenge'.

"Mahindra drivers and their vehicles are always ready to accept a challenge, be it braving the great outdoors, starting their own business or navigating the urban jungle.

From our research, it is clear that Mahindra owners value their cars' tough and rugged persona, performance, unmatched value for money and the quality of Mahindra's support and service - so we believe that this sponsorship campaign will connect Mahindra with even more like-minded South Africans," says Gareth Leck, CEO of Joe Public United.

Joe Public United and Alphabet Soup will be joined by Red September, which will support all the digital campaign elements.

"Starting life as a relatively unknown brand, has forced our team to be responsive and responsible in the way we spend our advertising budget. In this, we are very thankful for the help and support of our core agencies and the feedback we receive from our loyal family of Mahindra owners," says Avinash Bapat, Chief Financial Officer at Mahindra South Africa.

The integrated Survivor-campaign will incorporate a nationwide test-drive programme where Survivor fans can improve their chances of winning an XUV500 by test driving the vehicle at one of Mahindra's more than 60 dealers.

Hans Greyling, the National Head of Sales for Mahindra, says: "We are leveraging this association with Survivor by integrating a unique test-drive opportunity for all viewers. Interested Survivor fans can visit their nearest dealership, test drive the Mahindra of their choice and so earn 10 extra entries into the Survivor competition. The campaign will run for the duration of the series."

The XUV500 is available in four model derivatives with a choice of a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Mahinda also offers buyers the choice of two- or all-wheel drive, while even the entry-level model is very well equipped.

Pricing for the XUV model range starts at R282 995 incl. VAT for the W4 model to R397 995 for the automatic W8-version.
