Serena Williams is a sporting icon! #WTA

To watch Serena Williams play is to watch history unfold right in front of your eyes. She's black excellence personified. Despite racial and sexist prejudice, the queen of tennis has made us proud each time she takes to the court.

But now she has made us even more proud. She's the first black woman in history to achieve 23 Grand Slam titles, just one behind Margaret Court, the star of the 70s. This is no mean feat and no doubt makes Serena the greatest of all time.

And we have followed her story from humble beginnings to these dizzy heights of success.

At only 35, Serena is a legend, and she has shown us that nothing is impossible if you dare to dream.

She's an inspiration to many young people across the world.

We wish to watch her win many more titles in future. She's our queen and we are proud of her.

Africa's fortunes set to attract AB InBev investment

Africa will be the new frontier for Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), which recently concluded a merger deal with SABMiller and executives at the company reckon that focused investment on markets such as South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and others will boost economic growth and opportunities for farmers.

The company has forayed into Africa at a time of difficulties for some of the region's economies, with growth expected to continue to be muzzled for the next few years, according to some economists.

Dirina Mançellari, a senior economist at FocusEconomics, says growth in sub-Saharan Africa will "remain subdued (for this year) on the back of economic and political challenges across the region" as well as lack of much-needed structural reforms.

"Economic progress will depend to a significant extent on how fast governments can implement reforms aimed at promoting growth, re-establishing macroeconomic stability and enhancing trade links within the region,"

But riding on SABMiller's experience on the continent, AB InBev – the biggest brewer in the world – has set its immediate sights on understanding the African markets and boosting growth.

Simple #Soweto girl now heads #Facebook Africa

People in positions of power know how easy it is to be superficial. Everyone wants an email address, or phone number, a business card, or just the opportunity to pitch a new idea.

Being in demand often comes with symptoms of attention deficit disorder. Nunu Ntshingila is different.

For one, she is a quiet Soweto girl who, despite knowing nearly nothing about
advertising, worked her way up the corporate ladder before being elevated to the position of Chairman at Ogilvy & Mather South Africa, one of the continent's largest agencies.

Now, as head of Facebook for Africa, she finds herself navigating an expansion phase where she will need to carefully manage the staggering growth of  the social platform.

" There are a number of things that I can see when I take a step back and look at my journey, beginning on the day I started at Ogilvy. I think the first and most important one is the ability to open one's mind to the opportunities that come.

"I did not study advertising or creativity, that is not the career that I had in mind for myself. But what happens in life, in your career journey, is that, along the way, opportunities come along.

"I always encourage young people to keep their minds open to new ideas and where life might take them. Openness is an important attribute as you grow through a career, and in life. Openness is about the ability to learn, to learn over and over, and to learn fast."

The rise of women dating younger men

Forget the latest designer handbag. For a whole raft of middle-aged female celebrities, there's only one fashionable accessory you need to dangle on your arm – and that's a toy boy.

From Madonna to Susan Sarandon, Kylie Minogue to Wendi Deng, and Kate Moss to Mariah Carey, it seems more women of a certain age are falling for the charms of men years – and in some cases, decades – their junior.

This week, Minogue, 48, announced she would take the surname of her 29-year-old fiancé Joshua Sasse when they marry. Wendi Deng, 48, former wife of octogenarian tycoon Rupert Murdoch, was spotted recently handin-hand on a beach in St Barts with hunky 21-year-old model Bertold Zahoran.

Kate Moss, 43, is romancing Count Nikolai von Bismarck, 29, while 51-year-old Net-a-Porter founder Natalie Massenet is dating fashion designer Erik Torstensson, 38.

The toy boy trend isn't just reserved for celebrities, either. According to a recent US study, almost a third of single women between the ages of 40 and 69 are dating younger men, with "younger" defined as 10 or more years.

So, what's causing this boom in toy boys? For some of the celebrities mentioned, there's an undoubted desire to attract attention and controversy.

Fast approaching 60 and with a seemingly unquenchable thirst for men 30 years (or more) her junior, Madonna never shies away from an opportunity to display her passion for men who could easily be her sons.

In Harper's Bazaar magazine, she said recently: "I have lovers who are three decades younger than me. This makes people very uncomfortable."

Certainly, there's still a stigma against women, especially those in or beyond menopause, dating much younger men. And let's be honest, it's not just men who judge. The relish with which these women scoop up toy boys unnerves many others who would recoil at being labelled a cougar.

But this suggests something of a societal shift. And, fascinatingly, it's one that reveals as much about the diminished status of men as it does the increasing dominance of older women.

Today, attractive young men play the same role previously enacted by pretty young girls with their sugar daddies.

For a generation of commitment-shy men who feel they're being sized up as potential fathers on the second date by younger women fixated on their biological clock, an older woman is an enticing alternative.

After all, a newly invigorated, middle-aged woman has a cachet today like never before. She's rebooting her sexuality – with a little help from her toy boy.

The Vodacom Bulls announced that flyhalf Handré Pollard will be captaining the Vodacom Super Rugby franchise going into the season, while regular captain Adriaan Strauss is still recovering from surgery and expected to miss the first few games of the competition.

The young flyhalf is no stranger to leadership roles, as he performed a sterling job of captaining the junior Boks on several occasions, and has always been part of the leadership group at Loftus Versfeld over the last few years.

Coach Nollis Marais: "Handré is an amazing rugby player and a natural born leader, and we are privileged to have a young man of his caliber in our system. He has a strong personality and a great vision for the game, as he has shown time and time again, at all levels. Couple that with the respect he has earned from the players and the vital experience he has gained with the Springboks, and his appointment becomes obvious."

Pollard will be deputised by Hanro Liebenberg, another youngster who had the honour of captaining the junior Boks as well as the Vodacom Blue Bulls at both junior and Currie Cup levels.

Death of gospel star Lundi shocks South Africa

The death of award-winning gospel singer Lundi Tyamara early on Friday has been met with an outpouring of sadness from fans and other singers.

Tyamara died at the age of 38 after a long struggle with stomach TB and liver complications.

The singer was best known for his 1998 hit Mphefumlo Wami.

Gospel musician Rebecca Malope said she was deeply saddened by Tyamara's passing.

"Yesterday [Thursday] I heard that he was recovering a little bit. But it is still a shock that he has passed on. Because sometimes in the back of our minds we hope that things can get better … don't know what to say, I'm numb."

Jazz singer Dorothy Masuka offered her condolences to Tyamara's family: "We're about to bury Thandi Klaasen and he also dies, which is very sad. He was a young man who used all his way to go. God has taken him. We cannot blame Him because He knows what He took him for."

Fans expressed their sadness on social media.

Tyamara's former manager, Tshepo Nzimande, recalled the success of Mphefumlo Wami, which was released in October 1998 and by December had sold "18,000 copies".

"We said, 'Guys, there's legs on this album, this is going to be big.' The following year he was nominated as the best newcomer, and we sold over 380,000 on his debut album."

Nzimande said Tyamara had "one exclusive gift, there was no secret. The only secret he had was God gave him a unique voice. Lundi would take a simple song and he would make it a hit. And he had energy on stage ... he was very powerful."

Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa sent his condolences to the family, friends and fans of the gospel star: "We are with a deep sense of grief and sadness at losing such a young life.

"Lundi really represented a success story of South African youth who have shown through their talents, through their arts, that they can make a positive contribution in our society. Nobody would have missed his stage performance, that when he took to the stage he was in control of the situation. That's why he's a multiplatinum-award winner in our country.

"And we send our deepest condolences to the family, to the relatives, and mostly to the fans who made him who he became in our country," Mthethwa said.

DJ Sbu set to meet potential investors and distributors in the US #MoFaya

There is no denying that media personality and entrepreneur Sibusiso "DJ Sbu" Leope had a turbulent 2016.

But being the ever motivational person that he is, 2017 promises to be a great year for the goal getter.

He is set to meet potential investors and distributors in the US next month to discuss export opportunities for his energy drink MoFaya.

DJ Sbu launched the drink in late 2014‚ unveiling it as the first 100% black-owned beverage brand in South Africa. The drink's popularity in South Africa inspired DJ Sbu to take the brand to the US.

"I will be flying to America in three weeks' time to give a talk at Harvard Business College in Boston. But while I am there‚ I will also be meeting with people who are interested in MoFaya.

"I launched MoFaya in London with the idea to only distribute it to a small community at first. We have been distributing it to the African community in London‚ because we saw that they were interested in the product‚ and it has really grown," he told Times Media.

DJ Sbu's zealous efforts to promote his energy drink have seen the star make headlines for "ambush marketing". It seems all those efforts fell on fertile ground and he can only expect a bumper 2017.

Its "Gadaffi" vs "Chief" in a non scripted boxing bout #Generations #Muvhango

Boxing fans probably fell off their chairs laughing a couple of days ago when they heard that two soapie actors would step in the ring and exchange blows in Durban on Friday.

It all sounded like something out of a TV script and the assumption was that
actor Vuyo ''Gadaffi" Dabula and his counterpart Gabriel ''Chief" Temudzani were more likely to trip over their own feet in the parking lot than actually make it into the ring.

But the men who have been training the actors — former world champs Dingaan Thobela and Jan Bergman — moved swiftly to dispel those funny assumptions and said they were impressed by Dabula and Temudzani's slick moves.

Thobela‚ a three-time world champion‚ said Temudzani, 36, would certainly not embarrass himself and the sport when he steps into the ring on Friday.

''He has got the basics and I believe he will not embarrass the sport or himself‚" said 50year-old Thobela. ''We want it to look good. His physique tells you that the man has been hard at work. We hope to entertain people in Durban and I want my boxer to win."

Bergman‚ the former WBU welterweight champion‚ echoed Thobela, saying he was surprised by Dabula, 40.

''Vuyo can box — the basics are there‚" 46-year-old Bergman said. ''He is going to surprise the 'Chief'. They just need our guidance when it comes to throwing punches on the night. They need to minimise their power because it is an exhibition bout."

The bout is meant to publicise the South African boxing awards at Durban's International Convention Centre on Friday.

At last Friday's weigh-in, Dabula and Temudzani slipped into their roles and threatened to beat each other up.

Van Niekerk back on track this weekend

It feels just like yesterday when we all watched Wayde van Niekerk romping to 400m victory at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. That was something hey.

Well the 24 year old Olympic champion returns to the track this weekend were he is scheduled to compete in the 100m and 200m events at a local schools meeting in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

"Yes, I am running this weekend but we'll see because I haven't trained much," he told the Sowetan.

He will compete there alongside other local senior athletes who have been granted permission to compete as part of Athletics Free State's preparations for the national championships.

It will be the first time that the sprinter lines up for a race since shattering Michael Johnson's 400m world record at the Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, last year.

Van Niekerk is expected to defend his world title at the IAAF World Championships in London in August.

The world's spotlight will be on him now that he has lowered the 400m best time to 43.03 seconds.

Browned toast and potatoes are potential #cancer risks

Potatoes and bread cooked at high temperatures for a long time could increase the risk of cancer in people who eat them regularly, scientists claim.

The U.K. Food Standards Agency (FSA) said a substance called acrylamide, produced when starchy foods are roasted, toasted, baked, fried or grilled for too long at high temperatures, has been found in animal studies to increase the risk of cancer.

Steve Wearne, Director of Policy at the Food Standards Agency, says that to reduce the danger, consumers should cook these foods at lower temperatures and eat them when they are cooked to a golden colour rather than browned.

"Our research indicates that the majority of people are not aware that acrylamide exists, or that they might be able to reduce their personal intake," he said in a statement.

Check cooking instructions and aim for a golden yellow colour or lighter when frying, baking, toasting or roasting starchy foods like potatoes, root vegetables and bread. Also  raw potatoes in a cool, dark place rather than in the fridge and opt for a varied and balanced diet.

"Although there is more to know about the true extent of the acrylamide risk, there is an important job for government, industry and others to do to help reduce acrylamide intake.

Dr Andrew Golding analyses what the unchanged repo rate means to the property market #rates #Sarb

Today's (24 January 2017) announcement by the Monetary Policy Committee meeting that the repo rate remains unchanged is surely what is needed to help fuel increased activity in the residential property market, says Dr Andrew Golding, chief executive of the Pam Golding Property group.

"Amid subdued economic growth and with an eye on global volatility, the country's housing market remains resilient in the face of a range of economic and socio-political challenges, demonstrating ongoing, underlying consumer confidence in this increasingly popular asset class.

"Owning a home is a key imperative for a broad range of people across all regions and walks of life, including a savvy, younger generation, not only in providing a secure roof over their heads but also as a sound investment over the medium to longer term."

Dr Golding says indicative of this is recent data from mortgage originator ooba, which reports that during 2016, 95 percent of purchases have been for a main residence, with 4.7 percent acquired for investment or buy to let purposes, and the balance of 0.3 percent for own leisure use.

Ooba also says the percentage of purchases for investment properties has risen from a cyclical low of 3.0 percent in June 2016 to 5.5 percent by December 2016, while during the same period, acquisitions of holiday homes also strengthened from 0.3 percent to 0.5 percent of total mortgages extended.

Says Dr Golding: "It is certainly hoped that interest rates have now peaked and that we may anticipate sustained stability in the repo rate and even some downward movement during 2017 or in the early part of 2018. This would alleviate pressure on consumers who have to contend with affordability issues as a result of rising costs across utilities, property rates, food and fuel.

"With the National Budget around the corner, it is hoped that further relief may be afforded to existing and aspirant home buyers in terms of reduced transfer duty. Investment in owning a home is to be encouraged, particularly as a form of saving for the future, and for first time home buyers in particular, along with providing for a deposit, transfer duty remains a significant 'hurdle' to be overcome in the buying process."

#AKA tops local playlist charts - The World Is Yours

AKA, adds another single to his resume of number #1 singles on the Local Music Playlist Top 100 Chart. His latest single to reach number #1 on the coveted chart is his smash hit single The World Is Yours which debuted to millions of viewers in November last year on the Idols SA finale show.

Cape Town's La Tête named as top restaurant for 2017 by CNN #LaTête

CNN recently announced that La Tête restaurant in Cape Town is one of the top restaurant openings for 2017 (link: http://edition.cnn.com/2017/01/03/foodanddrink/best-new-restaurants-for-2017/)

Farm to fork eatery La Tête recently opened on Bree Street and is already getting rave reviews.

Headed up by Chef Giles Edwards, who spent 10 years in the UK and worked at the iconic restaurant St. John with Fergus Henderson.

His new restaurant La Tête on Bree Street is a farm to fork eatery giving a nod to French cooking, with the emphasis on direct relationships with producers.

Dishes which feature are mussels with bacon and cider, roast shallots, mint and pork terrine, hake, chard and anchovy, beef and kidney pudding and ox heart with chips and horseradish. Desserts are classic offerings of salted chocolate caramel tart, poached guavas, and chocolate pots.

While in London is was Giles's long held ambition was to work with Fergus Henderson in the St. John in Smithfield, an establishment widely acknowledged as having kickstarted the British food renaissance.

"Fergus became my mentor," says Giles. "At St. John I encountered a food philosophy that centered on simple ingredient based concepts. The food had to be seasonal. You served what was fresh and available that day. The menu changed often, sometimes twice a day."

Returning to Cape Town last year he started looking for a suitable restaurant space, and in the intervening period, opened a pop-up called Salt Cellar, in Woodstock.

He found his ideal premises for La Tête in an old Lion Beer public house, located near the Foreshore, on 17 Bree Street. It's in a 1930s art deco style building.

"It's perfect for what I want to do," says Giles. "I want a simple space, without distraction. The focus has to be on the food, the wine and the company."

"I have decided to name it La Tête. It symbolizes what we will do. I intend to use the entire animal. The head has a brain, tongue and cheek and I suppose I am giving a nod to the French, who are masters at offal."

Giles aims to create food from the whole carcass, with nothing wasted. Beef, lamb, goat and seafood will all feature. "Direct relationships with producers will be important to me. Provenance is key."

Why plane windows have the tiny holes

The many mysteries of modern aviation: like what happens when you flush a plane loo and why cabin lights are dimmed during takeoff and landing.

But have you ever pondered: why exactly are there tiny holes in plane windows?

Surely we should not have holes in the windows of planes? On the contrary those holes, which are only present in the middle pane of our triple-glazed planes, are actually there to keep us safe. Without them, passengers could be in trouble.

But before we explain how these "bleed holes" help keep us alive, it is important to understand how air pressure changes when you are climbing to 33 000 feet.

As anyone who has scaled a mountain will know, at high altitude the air is less pressurised and contains less oxygen; this is why climbers suffer from altitude sickness. And that is just a mountain; at cruising altitude the pressure outside is even lower.

Inside the plane it is a different story: to make sure those onboard do not pass out, the cabin air is pressurised, which places an enormous strain on the windows.

The inside pane – the one you may have woken up against from time to time – is largely superficial, meaning the middle pane and outer pane are taking the brunt of the pressure.

"The middle pane is the one with the small hole in it," Justin Dubon, of Airbus, said. "The purpose of that hole is to allow pressure to equalise between the passenger cabin and the air gap between the panes."

That little hole also stops the windows from fogging up, meaning you can watch the scenery below unfold as you travel to your destination.

So now you know. Go forth, and impress fellow passengers with your trivia. –

Why a venue away from the office is the perfect place to kick-start the year #RadissonBlu

After a relaxing December holiday, getting back to business in January often proves to be a jarring experience. Although it's tempting to gently ease back into the swing of things, a few hours of face-time with your team spent collaborating and planning for the year ahead will ensure everyone's on the same page, and aligned with business strategy and goals.

Volkan Vural, General Manager of Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton, recommends giving your team a change of scenery (and yourself a break from organizing) by considering alternative meeting locations other than the office. Here are his top tips for using a conferencing venue to kick-start 2017.

Good planning

The key to a successful workshop is to ensure it's been planned properly. But few people have the time to do this, and let's face it; planning an away-meeting or workshop during the last few days of your precious leave is not ideal. If you use an external venue, a professional team will handle the planning giving you complete peace of mind. On the day you can then spend your time and energy participating in the meeting, instead of coordinating it.

Fewer distractions

Holding meetings off-site not only gives your team a change of scenery, but physically removes them from distractions at the office. Having a dedicated meeting place, free from the demands from other colleagues and the sound of ringing phones, gives you the perfect excuse to focus solely on the task at hand.

A touch of luxury

Let's face it, when returning to work after a leisurely holiday, a little bit of luxury is a very welcome prospect. Treat your team to a meeting room with beautiful views and refreshments on tap. How better to harness your team's genious and creativity, than by providing an environment that's both pleasant and conducive to working in?

Professional edge

No matter how luxurious, an external venue provides a setting that's  professional, ensuring you and your team make the necessary mental shift back to business to  get the most out of your session. Most reputable conference venues also provide access to the latest audio-visual equipment, and offer excellent high speed wireless internet.

The food!

After the festive season, it's probably a good idea to not overindulge at the office kick-start meeting. But conference food is known to be a treat. Help your colleagues maintain their New Year resolutions and health goals by removing temptation and ordering healthy options. Venues are able to accommodate different menus for healthy lifestyles. For example, the chefs at Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton, together with nutritionists, have developed the Brain Food menu – a culinary experience packed with fresh, locally sourced ingredients,  selected  to improve efficiency and mental speed, the ability to concentrate  and to lower stress levels.

Size doesn't matter

Whether you're meeting with a team of four or 164, a reputable conference venue is designed to accommodate a variety of requirements. If you have a large group, bring everyone together in an auditorium. Or split them up into smaller meeting rooms if this better suits your needs. For small to medium sized groups, there are more intimate rooms as well as the option to break away and work outdoors or in the restaurant if a change of scenery is desired. It simply means more freedom in finding space solutions to meet your company's specific business needs.

Better creativity

Creative juices do tend to flow more freely after a good break, but just in case your team needs a little boost, book a venue that offers fun activities such as a foosball table or giant jenga. Team building games are designed to free your creativity and elevate efficiency. Choosing a conference room that has natural light or a view will also help to harness creativity.

Make the most of summer

What better way to ease back into business after your relaxing break than to sit outdoors at a park or pool deck whilst planning your attack on 2017. Getting fresh air not only improves your blood sugar and heart rate but helps you think better and gives you more energy. Inhaling more oxygen also has a direct affect on your serotonin levels which will leave you feeling happier, more refreshed and relaxed. What better way to ensure a smooth transition back to business?

Mmatema Moremi to make small screen debut on #SABC 2

Mmatema Moremi hasn't allowed losing out on Idols top gong two years back to Karabo Mogane stop her from not just dreaming, but going big.

Having launched an advancing musical career that saw her playing the leading lady in the stage musical A Tribute to the Manhattan Brothers at Soweto Theatre last year, she is now about to make her debut on the small screen.

Mmatema has been announced as one of the leading faces of the SABC2 drama Bone of My Bones.

According to the Sowetan, she will play the role of Thembi, a school teacher married to Karabo Mohlala, played by the award winning Aubrey Poo.

The drama that promises to be gripping unfolds as Karabo, a musician wannabe, struggles to break into the music industry.

This leaves a frustrated Thembi to bear the brunt of being the bread winner who keeps the family afloat financially on a modest school teacher's salary.

Moremi gushed: "There's a first time for everything, I am excited about the role and feeling blessed to a part of such an accomplished cast as this. The role puts me in a different light from the singing girl everyone loves.

"I've always wanted to sing. I didn't grow up wanting to act, I discovered it in high school and in tertiary my love for it grew further. I decided to go for lessons from Fumani Shilubana, who acted as Detective Dabula on Isidingo. When I got the opportunity from Idols I decided to use it to show off my other talents, including this," she said.

The next few months will also be busy for Mmatema as she will be recording her debut album, The Definition Of Me, live on March 3 at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria.

Kagiso Rabada bowls Dale Steyn over #ProteaFire

It keeps getting even better for Protea fast bowler Kagiso Rabada after his recent heroics from the recently concluded Test matches in Johannesburg and Wellington were rewarded with impressive movements in the latest ICC player rankings for Test bowlers which were released on Tuesday morning.

Rabada, who was one of South Africa's stars in their ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2014 triumph, stole the bowling limelight when he returned figures of 3-44 and 2-50. For this performance, he has earned a rise of three places which has puts him in fifth position in the ICC player rankings for Test bowlers.

Rabada is now South Africa's highest-ranked bowler, one place ahead of Dale Steyn who missed the series due to an injury. Rabada leads Steyn by two points and trails Sri Lanka's fourth-ranked spinner Rangana Herath by six points.

South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 118 runs in Johannesburg, which gave them a 3-0 series win. The result means third-ranked South Africa have gained four points and have moved up to 107 points, two behind Australia, while seventh-ranked Sri Lanka have dropped four points to finish on 92 points.

The Wellington Test produced some exceptional batting performances from both the sides and these have been duly recognised in the latest Test player rankings.

Plan to help local chicken producers to survive on the cards

The Department of Trade and Industry said it would do everything in its power to help the local poultry industry, which is being decimated by imports.

Two of the country's leading chicken-producing companies are set to retrench close to 3 000 workers, and they expect further job losses if they continue to lose the price war against importers.

Local markets have been flooded with imported chicken. It is estimated that 530 000 tons of chicken were imported last year.

Last week the Sunday Tribune reported that Rainbow Chicken will sell 15 of its 25 farms in KwaZuluNatal and retrench 1 350 workers, while Country Bird is set to retrench 1 500 employees.

Sidwell Medupe, spokesman for the department, said: "We will introduce an incentive programme in the new financial year, which will help local chicken producers' competitiveness in the marketplace. And a national committee has been set up, which will include representation from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the chicken industry, to consider and address the challenges experienced by the local poultry industry."

#Nomisupasta goes back to her roots! ... Set to record live DVD in #Soweto

Nomsa "Nomisupasta" Mazwai may not be as fond of the spotlight as her multi-award-winning sister Thandiswa Mazwai is, but this talented artist has worked twice as hard to earn her name the respect she enjoys in the music industry.

And to build on to her stature, Mazwai recently announced that she would be recording a live DVD of songs from Nomisupasta, her "popular" self-titled debut album, on January 28.

The singer and songwriter said her musical adventure would take place at the Soweto Theatre in Soweto, south of Johannesburg.

Her voice has been on some of the hottest songs in South Africa, including her hit single with Black Coffee titled Traveller; the Metro FM classic, With You, sampled by 9th Wonder for Rapsody's The Idea of Beautiful album; and Kaya FM's No 1 hit single, Maybe I.

Born and raised in Soweto, Mazwai said filming her live act in the historic township was her contribution toward the area's development.

Now the general manager of the Soweto Theatre, the musician said she had also moved back to the township as a way for her to "connect with the artistic needs of the community I serve".

And this is fitting for a woman with a long list of achievements under her belt.
Mazwai, viewed as the epitome of Black Girl Magic, was the first female student representative council president at the University of Fort Hare.
"I've always wanted to be an artist and a leader," Mazwai said.

"People asked me, when there comes a time to choose one, what will you choose? I always answered, both. I'm so honoured that at the Soweto Theatre I have the opportunity to do both."

Mazwai said her show will be broken down into two segments.

The first one, featuring her and a full live band, will start at 3pm.

The second leg of the event will start from 8pm.

She also planned to share her vision for the Soweto Theatre on the night.

Tickets for the daytime show will go on sale today at noon.

Graeme Storm claims the #BMWSAOpen throne

Graeme Storm produced a remarkable performance to edge out Rory McIlroy in a tense play-off to win his first European Tour title in almost 10 years at the BMW SA Open.

The vast galleries were treated to a thrilling three-way battle between Storm, McIlroy and Jordan Smith on the final day at Glendower Golf Club, and it was Storm who defied the odds to beat the four-time major champion at the third extra hole.

The 38-year-old, who only retained his card for the 2017 season when Patrick Reed gave up his European Tour membership in November, led by three overnight but trailed with four holes to play as McIlroy reeled him in.

But Storm, who dropped only one shot in his last three rounds, finished tied with the favourite on 18 under when McIlroy bogeyed the 17th and both players holed clutch four-foot putts for par on the final green, while rookie Smith came up one stroke adrift.

Natasha Thahane enjoys being single #TheQueen

When you are famous,  everyone wants to know the status of your love life: if you're dating, who you're dating, why you're single, and so on. Last year, Natasha Thahane revealed that she is single and also shut down rumours that she is dating A-Reece. Speaking to True Love magazine recently, she explained exactly why she doesn't have time for that right now.
