Three most valuable Zimbabwean strikers in Absa Premiership

ABSA Premiership has spotted the acceleration and the de-acceleration of strikers across all sixteen teams and their arrangements in shape of their goal which has mostly changed their asking price and to our surprise three of the most valuable Zimbabwean Strikers in the SA PSL were our home boys .

It is said that Khama Billiat has been mentioned on numerous occasions as one of the highest valued players in the SA PSL League valued fifteen million Rands (R15) however there are also other two Zimbabweans players that strikes precisely that comes after Khama in the ranking.

Cuthbert Malajila at seven thousand-two hundred (R7.2 million) became the second of the three most valuable Zimbabweans strikers in the SA PSL strikers followed by  Kingston Nkhatha at five thousand Million Rands  (R5.2 m)

Joburg offers four times more jobs than Pretoria, Cape Town

Job availability in South Africa is on the rise at the start of 2016, according to the latest research from job search site Adzuna. Jobseekers should head to cities like Johannesburg, Cape Town Metro and Tshwane where there are more vacancies open to prospective candidates. Chatsworth is officially the hardest place in South Africa to find work, with the fewest available vacancies, with Zululand currently offering the lowest average advertised salaries.

The top 50 cities in South Africa were ranked by comparing the job vacancies in Adzuna’s comprehensive search index of over 110,000 live jobs and advertised salaries in each city in April 2016. Adzuna also analysed the distribution of job titles and categories to determine which jobs are in hottest demand in each city or province.

Best cities to find a job – Johannesburg, Cape Town (Metro) and Tshwane top the list of easiest places to find a job in the country. No surprises, although many mining areas in the northern parts of South Africa are especially interesting as the salaries proportionate to the amount of jobs available are much higher than general. The North-West Province, for example, won the rank of first for the highest salary average, pushed up by mining salaries on a lower base than the more populated areas.

Worst cities to find a job – Chatsworth and Kuruman (Ga-Segonyana district) are the hardest areas in SA to find a job with just 11 vacancies currently being advertised, closely followed by Lichtenberg, Faerie Glen, Meyerton and Blouberg (Limpopo) to round out the worst 6 areas. Unsurprisingly, availability for jobs in the capital Tshawne is booming with 6,191 roles available.

Employers are loosening the purse strings – Average salaries in a number of cities are rising, which may reflect a deeper need to attract rarer skills, as well as line up with the current inflation figures. South Africans saw a 6% rise in salaries offered for the same positions over the first quarter of 2016.

Sector Hot Spots – IT and Engineering are the top hiring sectors nationally with over 10,000 jobs advertised currently. The greatest growth in job stock can be seen in the technical industries, boasting over 40,000 job opportunities between them.

“South Africa is facing some tough economic times, due to a number of global pressures as well as local events” says Jesse Green, Country Manager for Adzuna in South Africa. “This can be seen in the rise in salaries and the amount of positions, as companies vie for talent and attract skills with much needed higher wages. The data also reflects the Reserve Bank’s recent decisions to increase the interest rate.”

Data tables follow.

Mall Of Africa opens doors in Midrand

Although it was a Thursday morning, there was no shortage of patrons at the opening of The Mall of Africa in Midrand, Johannesburg. You would seriously think the failing economy would deter anyone from spending any more money than they should, but then again payday has just showed face.

Since 5am, traffic along the N1 was disrupted due to the 6am opening times, which were advertised along with opening specials from each of the stores. Twitter revealed the long queues of both cars and people, lined up waiting for a piece of the pie:

You would not think the economy is struggling… Look at the queues at #MallOfAfrica opening!@eNuus @eNCA pic.twitter.com/D6UpVrTjT3

Kaizer Chiefs looking to finish on a high

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says his side will target maximum points in their Premiership clash with University of Pretoria on Wednesday night.

Amakhosi are yet to register a win in their last five league games and may drop out of the top four if they fail to win against Shaun Bartlett’s men.

“The players are aware of what is at stake,” Komphela told his club’s official website. “We have to go for three points and at the same time respect Tuks as the opponents.

“We are going into this game looking at finishing on a high. We remain focused and dedicated to finishing on a high note to give us a lead going to the next season.

“You can see a change and a new energy in their team since Shaun (Bartlett) took over,” he said. “We will be aware of the danger they pose but, we will use our strength to overpower them.”

Mbalula bans SA from bidding for cricket, rugby events

Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula has suspended the privileges of SA Rugby, Cricket South Africa and Athletics SA from bidding for international tournaments due to lack of transformation.

“I have resolved to revoke the privilege of Athletics South Africa (ASA), Cricket South Africa (CSA), Netball South Africa (NSA) and South African Rugby (SARU) to host and bid for major and mega international tournaments in the Republic of South Africa as a consequence of the aforementioned federations, not meeting their own set transformation targets with immediate effect,” Mbalula said on Monday.

“I will review this decision when considering the results of the 2016/2017 Transformation Barometer.”

Mbalula made the announcement during the release of the Eminent Persons Group on Transformation in Sport in Pretoria.

He said the South African Football Association (SAFA) had met its target, but lashed out at the slow pace of introducing soccer at private schools.

“In respect of the South African Football Association, I am delighted that SAFA has met its transformation targets. I will, however, issue a Ministerial directive to SAFA as a consequence of their poor drive to penetrate and roll out football in former Model C schools and private schools,” said Mbalula.

He said the Transformation Charter was the load-star of the sport movement that drew attention to the immediate and inevitable necessity for the Sport System to Transform for both Moral and Strategic imperatives.

He said morally, it was “the right thing to do”, considering the grave injustices of the past. And it was strategically necessary, because of the reality that 84% of the country’s Under-18-year-old population was black African and only 16% white, coloured and Indian.

He said to ignore this strategic reality, from a sustainability perspective alone, would be suicidal.

He said he had applied his mind to the aforementioned reality and had taken into account the strides made by men and women within the sports movement to achieve transformation goals.

“It is not my intention to disrupt the momentum gained from the implementation of the Transformation Barometer and the global competitive edge of some federations and sports bodies. However, I am mindful of the urgent task for federations to move with speed in the direction of providing quality of opportunities and access to the youth of our country,” he said.

Youth takes on the world through Green Shift Africa

Youth Times caught up with Kirtanya to find out more about Green Shift Africa and what the future holds for the organisation

"The vision of Green Shift Africa (GSA) has been borne out of the imperative to forge new partnerships for the delivery of water, food and energy security on the African continent – partnerships with academics, governments, business and industry, and civil societies.

"Our three key goals are: Ending energy and food poverty and increasing access to clean
water and sanitation; Boosting Climate Resilient Agriculture on the continent, to enhance food and Agricultural production; And increasing energy efficiency, food production and efficient water use on the African continent. GSA is driven by imperatives of the sustainable development agenda to spur innovations in green technologies," she said

Being a Green Matter Fellow and Masters student in Marine Biology at the University of Cape Town, Kirtanya has established a series of projects and facilitated partnerships between UCT and WWF, Greenpeace and Fairtrade SA.

"As a young, upcoming organization, Green Shift Africa was launched at the first African Student Energy Summit. This took place in Cape Town and was powered by Student Energy, Canada. This was our first event and it was the first of its kind on the continent, bringing together youth from across Africa to discuss energy issues as well as a way forward. We have been part of initiating the EcoFuture Food Dome which is a uniquely designed community food garden that we aspire to roll out to communities in the future," she added.

The projects that Green Shift have administered have managed to attract interest from other youth on the continent who have seen it as a worthy initiative.

"We have gained overwhelming responses from youth and also professionals across Africa. Our membership is broad and includes diversity in terms of language, culture, background, profession, skills and age. The youth on our team are motivated and hopeful and are interested in being part of Green Shift Africa in a variety of capacities, in working toward a greener Africa," Kirtanya stressed out.

From Belgium to China to her native South Africa, Kirtanya focusses on empowering people to bring about active environmental change.

"I have visited Belgium and China and spread the word during my travels and training. The Green Shift word has been spread to India, Hong Kong, Canada and in fact, all around the world, through diverse networking opportunities. On many occasions we have received positive and encouraging words about our work from reputable companies and organisations as well as tangible marketing and management support from corporates," she concluded

Tendai Ndoro admits watching Pirates from the bench was difficult

Orlando Pirates striker Tendai Ndoro admits it was tough watching his teammates from the sidelines, especially when the team was struggling.

Ndoro started this campaign fourth in the pecking order behind the then in-form duo of Kermit Erasmus and Thamsanqa Gabuza followed by Lehlohonolo Majoro.

Erasmus’ departure to France, followed by Gabuza losing his form and Majoro failing to take over the baton, opened the doors for the Zimbabwean. He has grabbed the opportunity with both hands, scoring eight goals in the club’s last nine matches in all competitions.

“It was very hard, I won’t lie,” Ndoro told Vodacom Soccer. “Especially when we were struggling because you see your teammates playing and think that I could have done this or that. But I think that time out was good for me because it made me hungry.

“I knew that when I get the opportunity I should make the most of it. When I got that opportunity my teammates supported me which made it easier to perform.”

In his first battle this season with one of his countryman, Charlton Mashumba at Jomo Cosmos, Ndoro won that battle by scoring a brace compared to Mashumba’s solitary strike to help Pirates reach the Nedbank Cup last eight.

This coming weekend, in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals, he will come up against another of his countryman in Khama Billiat. And Ndoro is driven to make up for lost time.

“There is something that happens when you put on this Pirates jersey. It’s like it talks to you, to get the best out of you. I am in that zone and I want to repay the faith the team showed in me by helping them excel,” Ndoro added.

Science not just for the elite

Poor black people must stop thinking science was only for the elite and therefore out of bounds, Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor said in Parliament on Tuesday.

“I used to think astronomy was for the elite. I thought, we, the poor, were not supposed to touch it,” said Pandor during a debate in the National Assembly on the department’s budget for 2016/17.

“We must stop [thinking] that as blacks we are not supposed to be in the science arena,” she said. “We mustn’t think that we are for agriculture only, [and] we are not for science.

“I disagree with that. We are going to do science of a very high standard for our people.”

Pandor was speaking at the end of the debate at Parliament on the R7.4 billion set aside for the department.

Pandor and opposition MPs were concerned the department’s budget did not change significantly from last year, yet it was expected to keep abreast of innovations in global research and development.

DA MP, Anneline Lottriet, said the department’s budget was reduced from R7.48bn for 2015/16 to R7.42bn for 2016/17 – a decrease of 6.8%.

Science and technology couldn’t be seen as a luxury, she said. It was one of the most important drivers of economic growth and should be in the same league budget-wise as the department of health.

“This should let the alarm bells ring – we can’t fall behind on scientific and technological innovation,” Lottriet said.

Earlier, Pandor said the “padding” from other departments should be reprioritised for the department that wanted to use science and technology to solve pressing socio-economic problems.

Economic Freedom Fighters MP, Nazier Paulsen, said the party would rectify this if it was in charge by establishing high tech computer laboratories in municipalities and free wifi.

Paulsen said it was also incomprehensible that the sciences in South Africa were still strongly dominated by white men in.

“Minister Pandor, you should focus less on defending [President] Jacob Zuma and more on building your department,” he said.

Rihanna snubbed Usain Bolt

Rihanna snubbed Olympian Usain Bolt’s request for a date after he declared his love for her.

In 2013 the six-time Olympic gold medallist said he was, “in love” with the Work singer and called on her to “hit me up”.

However despite the Jamaican sprinter’s status as the fastest man of all time, he says she never contacted him to arrange a meet.

“No, she’s given me no love bro, no love zero love.” he tells TMZ.com. Referencing her raunchy video with Drake for her record breaking hit Work he added, “I think she’s getting all the love with Work, Work, Work man.”

The Barbadian musician has recently been pictured getting close to Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio at California’s Coachella music festival, reigniting rumours they’re dating.

Usain doesn’t see the Oscar-winner as worthy competition though, saying, “He’s no competition for me. I’m tall, I’m handsome I’m dark, I’m the greatest.”

Despite the athlete still being up for a meeting, saying he’d attempt to get his “team” to contact the star, Rihanna may have missed the chance to hook-up with Usain as he admits he is now in a relationship.

Arranging a get-together could be difficult as both Usain and his pop star crush have busy years ahead of them.

The sprinter is preparing for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August (16), while Rihanna is in the middle of a world tour in support of her hit album ANTI.

The record has already spawned one phenomenally successful track – her collaboration with former beau Drake, Work, has spent nine weeks at number one in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart, giving the singer her 60th week in total at the top of the American singles chart.

She is set to reveal the video for her latest single from ANTI, Needed Me, on Wednesday (20Apr16).

Cassper hopes to inspire with his extravagant lifestyle

Rapper Cassper Nyovest says he will not stop showing off his extravagant lifestyle and his expensive purchases on social media.

The rapper recently posted a picture of a brand new Bentley and a Rolex watch on Instagram saying it all used to be a dream.

Speaking at the launch of his very own cellphone‚ #Hashtag‚ which has been manufactured by AG Mobile and is exclusive to MTN on Tuesday morning, Cassper said haters will continue to hate, reports TMG Entertainment.

“I have the opportunity to be on every brand in South Africa but they offer too little money. I’m not going to put my name on something for an amount that isn’t life changing. That’s why I’ve turned down numerous deals. This is the biggest cheque I’ve ever got,” Cassper said.

Cassper said he hope to inspire children from Townships by sharing his successes on social media.

“I don’t think I’m going to stop showing off my watch because of one guy who hates seeing my watch. The real reason they hate seeing my watch is because they hate their life.”

“I was inspired by seeing Kanye’s chains‚ seeing his car and his house and seeing P.Diddy’s lifestyle. I was inspired from a kid. I used to take the good from what I see. I mean all these rappers come from an American hood‚ but they also come from unfortunate situations and through music‚ they’ve been able to provide for their families and buy these cars.”

“You know‚ I drove the Bentley home to Mafikeng last week and all the kids just started running after the car. They already knew the car. I mean‚ these are the same kids who used to see me chilling in the corner with people who used to do drugs. Some of my friends were thieves‚ some are in jail and some are dead. If you cannot appreciate a young black man‚ who comes from nothing and now drives a Bentley‚ then you have a problem‚ not me,” Cassper said.

Mosimane backs Sundowns to advance in CAF Champions League

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is confident his side can score the two goals they need in Wednesday night’s CAF Champions League game against AS Vita.

The Pretoria side went down 1-0 in their second qualifying round, first-leg match away to AS Vita on 10 April, and now need to score at least twice (without conceding) at the Lucas Moripe Stadium if they are to be certain of going through to the next round.

The Kinshasa-based club, however, showed that they are a quality side in the first leg. They have some dangerous players up front, and will be harbouring their own ambitions, having made it to the final in 2014.

But with in-form forwards such as Leonardo Castro, Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly to call upon, not to mention the goal-scoring prowess of midfielder Hlompho Kekana, Mosimane is confident that his side has the firepower needed to advance.

“They have an unbelievable attack. They come inside and they’ve got this Ghanaian [Bernard Morrison] and he gave us problems,” Mosimane was quoted as saying by the Sowetan.

“And they’ve got a number 9 who is big and strong, the one who scored at the end [Kule Mbombo]. He also gave us problems, but I believe that the attack we have is good enough to get two goals.

“Look at the [Uefa] Champions League – Real Madrid were losing 2-0 [against Wolfsburg] from the first leg and they [scored] three in the second leg.

“We learn from that. With the way we press, we suffocate people until they give in. You must give in with a goal otherwise we don’t stop coming,” said the former Bafana Bafana coach.

DA: Skills development need attention

Democratic Alliance Constituency Head for Laingsburg Daylin Mitchell said there needed to be considerable emphasis in skills development in the country, if the youth unemployment rate is to be effectively tackled.

Figures released by Statistics South Africa reveal that youth employment and poverty levels in South Africa are still unacceptably high, and Mitchell believes there is a desperate need for urgent intervention.

“The DA in the Western Cape notes with concern the statistics released by Stats SA on the state of youth unemployment and poverty in the country,” read a statement released by Mitchell’s office this week.

“I will write to the Minister of Social Development in the Western Cape, Albert Fritz, to inquire whether the programmes which are focused on the previously disadvantaged communities is facilitating youth employability in the province,” he said.

“We must ensure that the youth in those communities not only have access to quality education, but also have support systems in place that will ensure that they remain in school and obtain skills that will enable to access jobs,” he added.

Often, when these figures are released, several reasons are given. Chief among them is always government’s failure to create jobs. Mitchell feels society and government needs to dig deeper than that and centre its focus on providing young people with the skills they need to make a meaningful contribution to the economy.

“Nationwide, unemployment among the youth between the ages of 15-34 remains worryingly high at 39,5 percent. Lack of education and of skills have a major impact on youth unemployment. Although universities boast huge enrolment numbers of youth from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, the reality is that many do not complete their studies and remain unemployed,” explained Mitchell.

“Skills development programmes in combination with a quality education play a pivotal role in reducing poverty and crime, and the DA in the Western Cape is committed to ensuring that all youths in the province have access to quality education that will make them employable in the future. We must provide the best possible environment and opportunities for all youth in the province.”

Mathematics back under education spotlight

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said the production of good math teachers would again be a priority for her department, after it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with TEACH South Africa.

Part of the agreement involves the deployment of TEACH Ambassadors to South African schools where the results in that subject a particularly poor. In many of those instances, the schools do not actually have a teacher who is qualified to teach mathematics. Part of this project is the goal of promoting the subject of mathematics.

“This large placement (of ambassadors) enables us to achieve a greater impact across the country,” said TEACH South Africa Executive Director Richard Masemola.

“We are proud to partner with the Department of Basic Education to improve the quality of education for children irrespective of their economic background by increasing the pool of quality mathematics teachers in South Africa. School districts in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo had the lowest number of students who passed matric in 2015, we applaud Minister Motshekga for addressing this by ensuring quality mathematics teachers are placed specifically in these areas.”

“In order to build a prosperous, equitable and competitive South Africa, we must invest in high quality education. This is aligned with the goals of the National Development Plan for Education, Training and Innovation,” added Dr. Futhi Mtoba, TEACH South Africa President and Co-Founder.

No one is more excited by the latest development than the Minister herself, who also emphasized that the project does not just end at teaching maths to pupils, adding that it also sought to create more match teachers in future.

“We need to continue to work with our partners in civil society to ensure that we begin to see improvements, not only the numbers of learners who take up mathematics as a subject, but we also want learners to come back into the system as qualified mathematics teachers one day,” said Motshekga

“We come from a past where not all learners have had the opportunity to take mathematics as a subject in school, hence the shortage of qualified mathematics teachers today. We need to work hard to ensure that all learners, no matter their social-economic background have every opportunity available to take up careers of their choice without any limitations,” she added.

Are you stressed? Just walk it away!

Stressed out

To a certain extent, we are all stressed. For some, work may be the source of stress, while for others it may be in their personal relationships. Whatever is making you feel stressed, there are ways to combat it.

Although addressing the exact cause of stress is recommended, it can be a long and painful process. The good news is that you can ease your stress, starting today!

How to walk away stress

Would you like to alleviate stress in your day-to-day routine? Would you like to sleep better at night? Would you enjoy being able to think clearer?

A walk can help you do all this.

Power walk

We often underestimate the power of a walk. It does not matter whether it’s a brisk or gentle walk. The mere act of walking for about 20 minutes can do wonders for your physical and mental health.

If you’re stressed about something, take a gentle walk, preferably outdoors. Walking will help your body release endorphins, which helps relieves tension.

As a result, you’ll come back refreshed and able to think better. Perhaps you’ll even been able to solve whatever issue is at hand.

Sneak in a walk

Balance your daily stress by walking every day. You could schedule this as part of your exercise routine or sneak a walk in between other activities.

Let your walk be meditation and exercise at the same time by trying to be mindful as you walk. You could use mantra or meditate on positive thoughts, for a soothing and calming effect.

IOL has homeless man writing for them

There are many voices that tend to be marginalised in the South African media landscape, and featuring pretty high up on that list would be the voice of the homeless.

The Cape Argus, in conjunction with IOL, have launched a new initiative called #TheDignityProject. This will take the form of a 15-part daily series about the lives of the homeless in Cape Town.

At the forefront of that is a chap called Danny, who has written his first ‘Danny’s Diary’ entry, Below is how it begins:

Not so long ago I lived in Green Point (The Rockwell) and earned good money. I was wearing labels and ate out at some of the best restaurants in town. I had a very comfy life. Then life took a turn…

When living on the streets is your only option, it comes as a shock. You are exposed to things you would never have dreamed of. But, I had the time to learn so much about myself and how strong I am.

You also learn how society can choose to turn a blind eye and how some people go out of their way to help.

Living on the streets can be harsh at times. Not to mention dangerous. But in general we do the best we can with what we have. Honestly, I started using meth (tik). It kept me awake at night. Also, I could go for days without a meal as it suppresses your appetite. I went from a size 32 to a size 28 in four days. It was not a solution to the problem, so I stopped.

Record sales confirm Steyn City as undisputed market leader

While South African consumers exercise caution in the face of the country’s precarious economy, sales at Steyn City continue to proceed at a brisk pace.

Since launching a year ago, in March 2015, Steyn City has achieved sales of more than R1.5 billion for its sectional title apartments, clusters, freehold homes and stands.

Added to this, homes have already appreciated significantly in value: properties are now fetching as much as 20%-30% more than they did at launch date a year ago. “Yes, this does mean that Steyn City’s properties are more expensive than homes in other gated communities,” says Tammy Menton, director of Steyn City Sales, “but don’t forget that prices are driven by demand.”

She maintains that it is not surprising that such demand exists at Steyn City: apart from the magnificent parkland surrounds of the lifestyle resort, the developers have invested in excess of R6.5 billion to create infrastructure that makes for an unsurpassed lifestyle.

CEO Guiseppe Plumari agrees that this is one of the factors driving Steyn City’s appeal: “People aren’t lured here with a promise of something that is yet to be seen. We have already built our world-class facilities, from the equestrian centre to tennis courts, children’s play nodes and skate park, our award-winning clubhouse and Nicklaus design 18 hole championship golf course, and well-appointed restaurants and deli.” This stands in stark contrast to most developments, where potential buyers have to adopt a wait-and-see approach to infrastructure, based on the promises of the developer.

Steyn City’s security infrastructure is equally noteworthy. Steyn City has been equipped with the latest technology, supplementing a trained force of security personnel and a canine unit. It is this assurance of peace of mind and the complete freedom to enjoy an outdoor, family-oriented lifestyle that has attracted buyers from Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, as well as other gated communities.

Another market has come in the form of corporates seeking comfortable, secure homes for their international staff on assignment in South Africa. Chrysler is a case in point; the motoring giant has purchased a number of units to house their European staffers.

Interestingly, many of these tenants are willing to pay premium rentals. For instance, in July 2015, realtor Mark Williams of Steyn City Properties secured a lease of R130 000 per month for a five-bedroomed house located on the development. Although there’s no denying that this is a hefty sum, Williams isn’t surprised that there are tenants willing to pay it. After all, he says, lifestyle and security are paramount – and Steyn City provides the best of both.

There’s little doubt that the lifestyle resort will continue to enjoy its status as the darling of South Africa’s property sector as it gears to make more offerings available, extending its appeal to a broader market. For instance, new two and three-bedroom apartments are scheduled for release in the middle of the year. Currently in the design phase, there are 105 of these apartments, located near the William Nicol Gatehouse and the City Centre (which is, itself, currently under construction). Investors can look forward to inviting views of the Steyn City creek from the four-storey high buildings, each characterised by clean, contemporary architecture: think sliding aluminium shutters and corner glass balustrades.

The buildings are prefaced by large lawns, and – as is typical of Steyn City – are protected by a dense planting of trees and shrubs which ensure total privacy. The buildings are built around two lift cores, with single banded corridors and open walkways extending from each block, stepped down to follow the contours of the land. As always at Steyn City, lifestyle is a byword: residents will have their own clubhouse, ideal for community activities like yoga classes. There will also be a private resort pool, spilling over into the already built children’s themed play area with sandpit and pirate ship and a fishing dam.

Another exciting development to be launched this year is the Steyn City office park. The site sprawls over 14 hectares, offering 55 675m² of office space in 10 three-storey, A-grade buildings, complete with basement and outside parking. Each building will have its own design: the developers have offered guidelines to create cohesion in a campus-type environment with premises that appeal to different types of businesses, from creative agencies to blue chip corporates.

Easy access is assured: residents will be able to access the business park from within the lifestyle resort, while non-residents will benefit from the recent upgrade of the R511 William Nicol, which now extends to the N14. There will be two entry and egress lanes respectively at the new sandstone clad commercial park entrance, as well as pedestrian access.

Exciting investment opportunities exist for developers, who may build sectional title offices for leasing purposes within the office park.

Plumari is confident that buyers and investors will be as enthusiastic about these new offerings as they are about the rest of the development.

Zuma's birthday wish - To see South Africa become a better country

President Jacob Zuma’s birthday wish is to see South Africa become a better country, he said on Tuesday.

“I am grateful for the gift of life and to celebrate this special day in my life,” he said in a statement on his 74th birthday.

“I wish for our country to continue working together to address our common challenges, particularly in this difficult economic climate of joblessness; rising fuel and food prices and high levels of poverty and inequality. It is only through our unity as South Africans that we will be able to overcome the current challenges and build a prosperous South Africa,” he said.

The presidency wished Zuma a happy birthday.

Zuma is expected to celebrate his 74th birthday with family in a low-key gathering at the Mahlamba Ndlopfu residence in Pretoria.

There have been widespread calls for Zuma to resign following the Constitutional Court ruling that he failed to uphold the Constitution when he did not comply with Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s remedial action regarding payment for the upgrades to his Nkandla homestead.

Lira named first African female face of Johnnie Walker

Songstress Lira is flying the flag high for SA, bagging her second brand ambassador deal in under one month.

On Tuesday, Scottish whisky brand Johnnie Walker made the official announcement at an event, naming her the face of  its Joy Will Take You Further campaign.

The news was also confirmed on their Facebook page: “In case you missed the big reveal of our iconic JoyWalker on @JohnnieWalkerSA, we’re proud to announce that it’s award-winning singer, model and African global icon Lira.”

Marketing Manager Loyiso Sipayile said in an interview with Times Live that Lira was a perfect fit for the brand.

He said: “Lira offers a different dimension. She’s a female who’s about to promote whisky. We weren’t looking for a brand ambassador; we were looking for an individual to reinforce our mantra of personal progress and we were inspired by her journey – it was obvious that joy fuelled her success and many people will be inspired by her story.”

Earlier this month, the global icon shared the news of becoming iconic cosmetic brand, Bobbi Brown’s first african brand ambassador.

She said on Instagram: “I’m thrilled to be the first African to formally collaborate with this global brand. I love Bobbi’s makeup and admire how her products bring out the individual beauty in every woman and how easy she makes it for all women to look and feel their best.”

Amid all her brand partnership deals, she still continues to make music, while being a coach on The Voice SA. Earlier this month, she released her sixth studio album, Born Free, which will be officially launched at Gold Reef City’s The Lyric Theatre in Jozi in April.

Lira is the perfect example of how to nurture your brand. Well done, Lira!

Julius Malema motivated by desire to inspire

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema hopes to inspire others as an official graduate of a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Malema on Wednesday evening received his BA degree, with a major in political science, at the ZK Matthews Great Hall in Pretoria.

Speaking to reporters after receiving his degree, Malema said he was motivated to complete his studies by the desire to be a role model to others.

News24 quotes him as saying: “I graduated with the sole intention of wanting to inspire many other people. We all know that revolutionaries have a responsibility to lead by example through accumulating knowledge.”

Malema also admitted that it was no easy feat to finish his degree, as he faced several obstacles brought about by his career as a politician, but that he refused to be deterred.

“There was a point where I had to write exams and then after go to court when the ANC prosecuted me. The table we were studying on, Sars had to come and take and we had to look for alternative tables,” he added.

“The whole thing was just an attempt to destroy an individual. I refused to succumb to the agenda of my enemies. I refused to allow my enemies to determine my destination. I’m in charge of my education.”

Ronan Keating headed for SA in June

Pop singer Ronan Keating will soon be gracing South African shores for a two-city tour of the country, as part of his ‘Time of My Life’ word tour.

Breaking onto the music scene in the 90s, as a member of Irish pop group Boyzone, Keating embarked on a career as a solo artist in 1999. He gained worldwide attention after his cover version of popular song, “When You Say Nothing at All”, featured in blockbuster film ‘Notting Hill’.

This first solo single went on to become a chart-topper in the United Kingdom, and Keating soon after released his first solo album, ‘Ronan’, which featured three other hit songs in ‘Life Is a Rollercoaster’, ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ and ‘Lovin’ Each Day’.

Keating in February 2016 released his tenth album, entitled ‘Time of My Life’, as part of a new three-album contract with Decca Records.

Speaking about this new album, the 37-year-old singer says on his website: “It’s taken a year to write but in that time I have given the most honest piece of me.”

Touring SA in support of ‘Time of My Life’, Keating will perform one show in Cape Town, at the GrandWest Grand Arena on 17 August.

He will, however, perform four shows in Johannesburg, at the Montecasino Teatro on 18, 19, 20 and 21 August.

Ticket cost between R405 – R775, and will go on sale at 9am, on Friday, 1 April, from Big Concerts and Computicket.
