Friday Night Football, the dawn of a new #EPL era

Who would have thought that the world's most expensive player Paul
Pogba will make his eagerly awaited 'return' debut at Old Trafford on
a Friday night? Certainly not I.

Well the guys at the Premier League have ushered in a new Premier
League era - Friday night football and the very first clash will
feature Jose Mourinho's Manchester United vs Southampton.

There has been a lot of mixed reaction from South Africans of all
walks of life about the new Friday Night Football slot but how huge is
such a night? Without any great tradition in England of Friday night
sport, Saturday afternoons have always been the natural home of
football.

This serves as a reminder of the game's origins as the reward at the
end of the English worker's five-and-a-half-day week. When factories
and mines emptied out, the crowds headed in large numbers to the
football stadium for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

But the primacy of Saturday football has long since eroded away.
Midweek games became commonplace in the 1960s, in part due to the
advent of the League Cup, while regular Sunday football has been
around for more than 30 years.

So guys expect more Friday Night Football in the coming months. It is
a new era and aren't we proud to be part of it?
