Lunch Bar Turns 50 - Oviaas!

Lunch Bar is celebrating 50years. I cannot believe it’s that old. 50years? That’s a milestone. Big up to them.

Since its launch in 1965 the ‘much more munch’ bar has inspired its fans to act on their potential, giving them the drive to perform and the kick-start to surprise the world with their talents and abilities.




Over the past 50 years, Lunch Bar has celebrated many of its own successes, such as retaining its position as South Africa’s #1 selling chocolate bar since 2008, whilst also filling the spot as the 2nd largest chocolate brand after Cadbury Dairy Milk. In addition, Lunch Bar is holding its position as TGI’s most iconic brand in the chocolate category, for the second consecutive year. This award truly reflects South African consumers’ commitment to Lunch Bar as they annually vote with their hearts and wallets, to select their iconic brand of choice.



Sales of this chocolate bar further echoes its success with more than a hundred million Lunch Bars sold in 2014, which equates to a phenomenal three hundred thousand Lunch Bars sold every day. OMG!!! We love chocolate. Lol



To commemorate its 50th Anniversary, Lunch Bar will be running a six-month integrated campaign, rewarding both consumers and trade for their loyal support over the past 50 years.

Consumer celebrations will kick off with the selling of Lunch Bar Man Size (62gm) at the regular bar (46gm) price of R6.99, while retailers will be given a dedicated month to exclusively celebrate Lunch Bar’s 50th Anniversary with their shoppers, in the form of in-store promotions and activity.

They will be rewarding their loyal fans even further by hosting radio competitions on 5FM’s Roger Good Show from the 16th to 27th March and on Metro FM’s Great Escape show from the 13th to 24th April 2015. To enter, consumers must simply SMS the word ‘Lunch Bar’ and the last four digits of their Lunch Bar barcode to 45555 (for 5FM) or 34764 (for Metro FM) and listen to their selected radio station to hear if they are called to participate. By correctly answering an ‘oviaas’ South African question listeners will stand a chance to win a daily prize of a gold quarter ounce Kruger Rand coin or the grand prize of R100 000 on each station.
