Prices of the #GalaxyS24 series in South Africa vs the rest of the world

The pricing of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series has caused a stir globally, with variations seen across different countries. Interestingly, South Africa has found itself at the higher end of the pricing spectrum compared to countries like the US, UK, Australia, and Germany.

Surprisingly, France stands out as having even higher prices for the Samsung Galaxy S24+ and S24 Ultra than South Africa.

Samsung unveiled its latest Galaxy S24 series at the prestigious Unpacked event held in San Jose, California, on January 17, 2024. The highlight of this launch was the introduction of Galaxy AI, a feature exclusive to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, S24, and S24+.

Galaxy AI brings innovative functionalities like a face-to-face interpreter, live translation for calls, and Google-powered Circle To Search, enhancing user experiences.

In terms of design, the Galaxy S24 series maintains a striking resemblance to its predecessor while incorporating subtle enhancements.

The flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra boasts a titanium-built body and an upgraded Gorilla Glass Victus, setting it apart from its counterparts with a matte finish and aluminium frame.

For hardware specifications, the South African versions of the S24 and S24+ are equipped with Samsung's Exynos 2400 processor and 256GB of storage.

The disparity in pricing worldwide reflects the diverse market demands and economic factors influencing smartphone purchases.

Tatjana Schoenmaker, now known as Tatjana Smith following her recent marriage, showcased her exceptional speed and skill by claiming victory in the 50m breaststroke event at the national championships in Gqeberha.

The Olympic 200m breaststroke champion delivered an impressive performance, clocking 30.09 seconds in the morning heats and repeating the identical time in the final, outpacing African record-holder Lara van Niekerk.

While the 50m breaststroke is not an Olympic event, Smith views it as a valuable indicator of her form and potential for upcoming races.

Expressing her excitement for her performance, she shared, "It's exciting to finally come closer to that 30-second limit. I hope one day to drop under that 30."

Smith attributed her improved speed to her training focus and expressed surprise at her rapid progress.

Embracing her new surname as a symbol of personal growth and identity, Smith explained, "Swimming is what I do, it's not who I am. I didn't want my identity to lie in swimming."

By adopting her new surname, Smith aims to emphasize her evolving self and highlight that her identity extends beyond her accomplishments in the pool.
