Fikile Mlomo takes it one step at a time

After finding herself in a state of trouble due to health-related issues, it was her devoted fans who came to her rescue – and now gospel singer Fikile Mlomo aims to show appreciation by dedicating her latest upcoming EP in honour of her supporters.
News and entertainment publication Daily Sun reports that the singer found herself hospitalised for three months earlier this year. It was later revealed that she needed financial assistance to help cover the costs of a spinal surgery.
At the time, she took to her social media providing fans with an update on her life.
"With whatever is happening, please know that I am very strong. When you see me looking good it' because I do not want to accept the situation."
With the assistance of her colleague and fellow gospel artist Thinah Zulu, fans helped the singer by donating large sums of money to cover the medical costs.
Speaking to Daily Sun the singer revealed that the donations came in overflow, which was more than enough to cover the costs of the surgery and help her go back to the studio to record the EP.
"This EP is dedicated to thanking my fans. They must brace themselves because the EP is too emotional and I'm bringing back the Fikile they know. I want to thank everyone who contributed to bringing back my life after I was hospitalised. Big thanks to my brother in God, Thinah Zungu."
Furthermore, she highlighted that her latest EP was to be released independently to avoid being exploited by record labels.

South African comedy lovers will soon have something to look forward to Pearl Thusi prepares herself for the roast.
While she has been in the public eye for several years as an actress, model and TV presenter, Pearl Thusi will soon step into the shoes of several others that have gone before her and become the person in the hot seat of Comedy Central's The Roast of Pearl Thusi.
The show sees celebrities and comedians dish out good-natured insult comedy jokes at the expense of the guest of honour in front of a live audience.

Speaking about her expectation at this year's roast she shared that she is fully prepared to handle what comes her way.

Real Housewives star spills tea on popular show

The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip – South Africa has come to an iconic end and in true Housewives style, it was dramatic, shady, funny and all-out outrageous.

The larger-than-life cast included Beverley Steyn (The Real Housewives of Cape Town S1); Christall Kay (The Real Housewives of Johannesburg S1-2); LaConco (The Real Housewives of Durban S1-2); Lethabo Lejoy Mathatho (The Real Housewives of Johannesburg S2-3); Liz Prins (The Real Housewives of Gqeberha S1); Londie London (The Real Housewives of Durban S2); Melany Viljoen (The Real Housewives of Pretoria S1); and Nonku Williams (The Real Housewives of Durban S1-4).

In the dramatic season finale, we saw the aftermath of the explosive fight between the longest-serving housewife, Williams, and her fellow Durban cast member London.

The ladies, who have been frenemies for a long time, got into a heated argument after Williams questioned London about why she came to Jamaica two days before the trip ended.

To give us all the tea and shade, we caught up with Prins.

She became one of the fan favourites throughout the season because of her wickedly funny sense of humour.

True to form, she did not hold back: she spilt the tea on the show, her friendships and the off-screen drama that has been trending.

1.How was your experience on Ultimate Girls Trip?

I had a wonderful time. Jamaica is a beautiful country with beautiful people. I enjoyed the villa and getting to know the ladies. My highlight was meeting Alton and his team; they were so lovely and took care of us.

2. How was it different from The Real Housewives of Gqeberha?

Unlike The Real Housewives of Gqeberha, I actually got along with all of the ladies and formed friendships with them. They are fashionable and have a sense of humour, very different from the ladies of The Real Housewives of
Gqeberha.

Lindiwe Sangweni-Siddo reveals what it means to be a woman writer in South Africa

What does it mean to be a woman in contemporary South Africa?

Lindiwe Sangweni-Siddo: [It] means I have had to sharpen my skills when it comes to claiming my space. I know the importance of my opinion in my personal and professional space.

As a writer, you are gifted with the ability to express yourself clearly and powerfully, and writing has become important for me on both formal and informal platforms.

Before I published my debut book, The Syndicate of Twenty-two
Natives, I was known as a writer of short stories or reflections on life published on social media.

These are contemporary platforms that can be used to express one's thoughts and tell stories.

From time immemorial, women have been strong and influential, even in traditional settings.

I like to think of myself as an extension of my greatgrandmother, Khokho Mandlesilo (my father's maternal grandmother), who was a very strong and influential woman in her family and community. She was outspoken and feisty, and she did not feel threatened by being the fourth wife in a patriarchal traditional Zulu setting.

She claimed her space and was well-respected well into her 90s. I am a modern extension of Khokho Mandlesilo, but in contemporary times.

I still have to make sure patriarchy and misogyny do not drown out my voice and those of other women.

Close friends struggle to find employment inspires entrepreneur to create platform that offers people practical skills in IT #FridayFeeling

A close friend's struggles with finding employment despite getting good marks at tertiary level inspired former University of Cape Town student Mvelo Hlophe to create a platform that would offer people practical skills in IT and boost their chances of employability.

The founder of Zaio, an online school teaching digital skills such as coding, data science and cybersecurity, started the business as a third-year student, working with his friends in their dorm rooms.

Zaio is a play on the isiZulu word "okuzayo" which means what's coming.

"The goal was to solve the challenge of employability among new graduates in the IT sector, but I realised that we were faced with a deeper problem as a country where people needed the necessary practical skills to be employable," said Hlophe.

At this time, he had switched from studying for a bachelor of business science degree, majoring in finance and accounting, to a BSC in politics, philosophy and economics. His passion changed at the height of the Fees Must Fall protests, when he realised he wanted his work to have a social impact.

"I wanted people to walk away from this programme with a portfolio they could use to approach companies and show them that they have projects they have worked on and know what they are doing."

With no background in IT, Hlophe reached out to people who understood the sector and could assist with the operations of the company. Once the website was set up and ready to be used, he encountered the same problem he was trying to resolve.

"One of the challenges we encountered was finding people who had the skills necessary to meet the needs of the company. We had to start by upskilling our staff to efficiently do what they needed to do."

The other hurdle for Zaio was securing funding in its initial stages. Hlophe said the project was selffunded when it began, which brought about some limitations for growth. As it was funded through his and his friends' monthly allowances received from their bursary grants, the company could not invest in digital marketing to attract clients.

"We had to knock on doors and approach people, we would find start-up projects in Cape Town and offer our services. It was a manual process, a timeconsuming process."

Once the company started attracting clients, the money generated was used to grow the project and expand its digital marketing side. Hlophe said one of the platforms they paid for was Google Ads, to ensure that as many people as possible knew about Zaio.

As the company grew, it was recruited to an accelerator programme that eventually led to it receiving its first round of funding.

"This helped a lot with the growth of the business, and it played an important role in where we are today. We were able to grow the subjects that we offered to our clients".

Zaio's operations are two-fold, where they offer their services to companies and also host boot camps for people interested in learning the skills they offer.

The six-month course costs R25,000, with payment plans made available for those who need it. He said at the inception of the company they offered their services for free, but this became unsustainable in the long run.

"We have a lot of people who approach us trying to get into the programme but cannot afford it, so we also work with a funding partner called Manati Alternate Student Funding, which pays for them to take the course, and the client arranges to pay Manati monthly."

Currently, Zaio's boot camps have limited seating, with 30 slots available for those wishing to enrol in the course every two months.

The company is planning on increasing its intake to accommodate the influx of aspirants who apply for the course.

Hlophe said while the courses may be pricey, Zaio ensures it is able to connect successful participants with potential employers at the end of the six months of training, with the company maintaining a 92% placement rate.

"When someone walks away from us, on average they will earn R10,000, which is a good start for someone who might only have that short course as a qualification."

Miss South Africa fights for inclusivity

The moment she stepped onto the stage for the final round the world around her faded to a muted, fuzzy buzz and an echo from the sound system reverberated through the implant in her ear.

But Mia le Roux is used to the challenges of being deaf in a hearing world and took it in her stride – and when she made the top three she dared to believe she might actually see her childhood dream come true.

And it did. The 29-year-old marketing student from Oudtshoorn was crowned Miss South Africa 2024 – the first hearing-impaired woman to take the title.

When the medis met her the day after the pageant she's every inch the beauty queen, gorgeous in a striking red dress, her Miss SA sash draped across her body and the crown on her glossy head – but Mia still has to pinch herself to make sure she isn't dreaming. "Wow," she says.

"I know there's still a lot ahead and I'm here to take things day by day. But I know I want to promote inclusivity."

Mia is all too familiar with the feeling of exclusion. As a child other kids often said hurtful things, such as "deaf children don't go to heaven" and the taunting took its toll.

"I struggled a lot with depression," she says. "It took an incredible amount of work to get to where I am. But there's a line I love: 'I know my worth because I have felt my unworthiness'."

Despite the challenges she faced, her resilience and determination have brought her to a place of empowerment.

DJ denies using witchcraft to get rich

Music producer Chymamusique, real name Collen Ntala Mmotla, has vehemently denied allegations that he uses witchcraft to achieve his success. The Limpopo-born DJ, known for his deep house music, found himself at the center of controversy after announcing a free braai lunch on September 24th, a public holiday.

The event, intended as a networking opportunity, was met with suspicion by some social media users, who accused Chymamusique of employing dark magic. One user commented, "Not saying he's using dark magic, but this is something the people who do that like to do. After eating that 'free' braai meat, you'll face trouble. Nothing in this world is truly free."

Chymamusique, however, expressed disappointment at the accusations. "Nowadays, any sign of success makes people think there's some secret behind it," he told TshisaLIVE. "But those same people are the first to buy tickets to my men's conference." He clarified that the braai is purely a chance for men to connect with one another, promoting open dialogue about their struggles. "It's like a men's conference. We'll be connecting with professionals from different fields… It's all for a good purpose," he explained.

Despite the accusations, Chymamusique, who will also host a networking session at Hartbeespoort Dam in September, remains resolute in his denial of any involvement in dark practices. "It's hurtful when people label us as part of certain things. I want to assure my fans and family that I am not involved in anything like that," he emphasized.

South Africans throw Chidimma Adetshina under the bus (again) as they root for Ufa Dania in Miss Universe Nigeria

While the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant adheres to traditional beauty standards, one contestant, Ufa Dania, is shaking things up.

As a dark-skinned, plus-size model, Ufa challenges the norm, aiming to reshape the perception of beauty in pageantry.

Ufa, a fashion content creator, has documented her journey in a series titled "Road to Miss Nigeria," giving her followers an inside look.

Interestingly, South Africans have become invested in the pageant since former Miss SA finalist, Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, joined the competition.  However, attention has shifted towards Ufa, who many believe would be an ideal ambassador.

The 24-year-old, a confident communications graduate and founder of the Minds and Hearts Foundation, has won hearts with her eloquence and dedication to educating young girls. What began as a playful attempt to "agony" Nigerians has transformed into a full-fledged campaign for Ufa.

Minnie Dlamini's daring lingerie photo sparks social media debate

South African media personality Minnie Dlamini has sparked a heated debate online after posting a bold photograph of herself in lingerie.

The TV presenter and actress, known for her glamorous style, shared the sultry snapshot on Instagram, showcasing her toned physique.

While many fans praised her for embracing her body and promoting confidence, others were less supportive.

Critics accused Dlamini of seeking attention and questioned the appropriateness of the post, particularly given her public profile. Some social media users even made insensitive remarks about her status as a single mother.

The post has sparked a conversation about body positivity, celebrity image, and the double standards women face in the public eye.

While some see Dlamini's photo as a powerful expression of self-love, others view it as a transgression against social norms or an attempt to gain attention.

Cell C unveils new logo

Cell C unveiled a fresh brand identity at its headquarters on Thursday, aiming to address a key challenge: customer consideration. While the company enjoys high recognition in South Africa, CEO Jorge Mendes highlighted the need to shift the narrative around network quality and service.

"We don't have an awareness problem, but rather a consideration problem," explained Chief Marketing Officer Melanie Forbes. "We're focusing on changing the perception of our network and ensuring our service truly delivers."

This rebranding effort follows a broader company revamp including a second recapitalization in September 2022, which saw Vodacom veteran Jorge Mendes take the helm. Mendes emphasized the importance of a strong team culture and addressing fundamental issues within the business.

"We've focused on stabilizing leadership, hiring top talent, and addressing our core business operations," Mendes said. "This has allowed us to drive performance and focus on profitable growth."

Despite budget constraints, Mendes highlighted the vital role of marketing in a company's success. "Marketing is often the first budget to be cut, but that's a mistake," he stated. "It's essential for driving growth and establishing a strong brand."

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Mia emphasized Chidinma's deserving place in the competition.

"It was extremely hard for us because each one of us personally knows and loves Chichi. We truly believe that she did not deserve it, as we know she's phenomenal, powerful, and beautiful in her own right. She deserved her spot on Miss South Africa," Mia stated.

Mia also highlighted the importance of unity among contestants. As part of her mission as Miss South Africa, she aims to foster inclusivity within the pageant community. "I stand for unity. I do not stand for people being divided. So, I do think we can do better in that aspect to support and include one another. Because she was excluded, and that is not okay," she added.

Mia's remarks resonate deeply in a time when mental health and support systems are critical, reminding everyone of the need for compassion and solidarity in challenging circumstances.

Openview's new decoder is a game changer

Openview has unveiled the OV512 decoder, a compact device that boasts a streamlined design compared to its predecessors. However, its on-demand streaming offerings currently leave room for improvement.

With its minimalist aesthetic, the OV512 is smaller and lighter than previous Openview decoders. It features a black cuboid shape adorned with physical buttons on top and various ports at the back. The decoder's 12cm dimensions make it comparable to modern media boxes.

While the OV512's physical features are impressive, its on-demand streaming content is currently limited. The lack of a wide array of streaming options may disappoint users seeking a comprehensive entertainment experience.

The OV512 comes with a DC power supply, AV cable, and remote control. However, an HDMI cable is notably absent from the packaging. Despite this, existing Openview users are likely to have an HDMI cable from previous models.

Overall, the Openview OV512 decoder offers a compact design that streamlines the user experience. However, its lack of on-demand streaming content limits its versatility as a comprehensive entertainment device. As Openview expands its streaming library, the OV512 has the potential to become a more compelling option for those seeking a compact decoder with satellite TV capabilities.

Popular actress Thabisile Zikhali, known for her roles in shows like Uzalo, Isitha: The Enemy, and The Black Door, has taken a new step in her career by opening her own beauty salon. Lavish Beauty Salon, situated in Midrand, Johannesburg, will offer a range of services including haircuts, nails, hairstyling, makeup, and lashes once fully operational.

Sharing her excitement on Instagram, Zikhali posted photos of her new venture with the Bible quote, "When the time is right, I, the Lord will make it happen."  In the post, she reminisced about her childhood, recalling how she would run an informal salon in her dining room while still in primary school. Every weekend, she would braid the hair of her neighbors, even going as far as putting up a board on their gate to attract customers. Most of her clients paid for her services, except for her mom, sister, and aunt.

Boom Shaka set for monumental comeback after three decades proving that comebacks are possible

South African kwaito legends Boom Shaka are poised for a triumphant return to the music scene after a three-decade hiatus.  The group, known for their groundbreaking debut in 1994, is currently in the studio working on a highly anticipated new album, marking their comeback after a long absence.

The group has decided to work independently, moving away from their former label, Kalawa Jazzme, which is no longer actively producing music except for special projects. Boom Shaka confirmed their return but remained tight-lipped about specifics regarding their upcoming album, leaving fans eagerly awaiting news.

The group's journey has been marked by both triumphs and tragedies.  Boom Shaka originally consisted of Lebo Mathosa, Thembi Seete, Junior Sokhela, and Theo Nhlengethwa. Tragically, Lebo, a beloved member, passed away in a car accident in 2006 at the young age of 29.

The group's comeback plans have also been affected by Theo's recent health setback.  He was hospitalized after sustaining an injury during gym training, delaying the group's 30th-anniversary tour.  Theo's injury, which he continues to recover from, has forced cancellations of appearances and interviews to allow for a full recovery.

Despite the challenges, Theo's condition has improved, and the group remains dedicated to their comeback.  While details about their new music are still under wraps, Boom Shaka's return is a significant event for the South African music scene.

TikTok feud between Handsome Khuthuza and Samkelo Shezi ends in fashion collaboration

TikTok, a social media platform known for its diverse content, has recently witnessed a captivating feud between two prominent figures in the Masandi music scene: Handsome Khuthuza and Samkelo Shezi. This saga of egos, jealousy, and accusations has gripped the attention of South Africa and beyond, unfolding in a series of viral TikTok videos.

The feud ignited when Samkelo Shezi, a renowned figure in the Afrotainment industry, publicly accused Handsome Khuthuza of stealing one of his girlfriends. This accusation sparked a social media firestorm, with Khuthuza responding with his own accusations of envy and jealousy.

Khuthuza, whose real name is Khethokuhle Ngobese, countered Shezi's claims by alleging that Shezi's attacks were driven by resentment over his rising success in the music industry. The feud escalated to new heights when Shezi challenged Khuthuza to a physical confrontation in a now-infamous video posted on TikTok.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Zimoja reported that Samkelo Shezi had filed an assault charge against Handsome Khuthuza, only to later drop the charges. Shezi explained that they had reconciled, stating, "We have kissed and made up. There is no need to hold grudges." He emphasized that he preferred to move forward and focus his energy ailleurs, recognizing that "life is too short to be going around and fighting."

Handsome Khuthuza also confirmed their reconciliation, saying, "We are fine, that's all I can say."

The reconciliation between Khuthuza and Shezi has been met with mixed reactions. Some have praised their ability to put aside their differences, while others have expressed skepticism about the sincerity of their reconciliation. Regardless, the feud between these two Masandi giants has captivated the attention of social media and provided a glimpse into the complexities of human relationships and the power of forgiveness.

In the end, the feud between Handsome Khuthuza and Samkelo Shezi serves as a reminder that even the most bitter of conflicts can be resolved. Through forgiveness and a willingness to move forward, former adversaries can find common ground and build a better future together, proving that reconciliation is always possible if both parties are willing to make amends.

Kaizer Chiefs set to play European giants

Kaizer Chiefs players and staff have commenced the first phase of their rigorous preseason program at Naturena. Amidst the intense training sessions, the club is reportedly considering an ambitious preseason tour to Turkey, potentially extending to Belgium and the Netherlands.

Turkey Emerges as Potential Destination

Initial reports indicated that Chiefs were considering Belgium and the Netherlands as potential preseason destinations. However, Turkey has emerged as a third option, with rumors circulating about a possible match against European giants Galatasaray. A source close to the club confirmed the plans for a three-country tour, including a potential clash with Galatasaray.

"They (Chiefs) are still looking at Belgium and Holland, but they have added Turkey to their list," the source said. "Maybe the coach advised them to include Turkey because it would provide a great challenge for the team's preparations."

Clash with Galatasaray on the Cards

A second source provided further insight into Chiefs' preseason opponents, indicating that a match against a Tanzanian team is also being considered.

"They (Chiefs) are also expected to host a team from Tanzania," the source revealed. "This will allow them to assess the team's performance against European and African opposition. Everything is in the pipeline and close to being finalized for both the European and Tanzanian teams."
