Choosing whether to chop a significant amount off your locks is always a rather daunting decision.
There's no worse feeling than going in for a cut only to hate the result, and knowing you'll have to wait months to get your longer tresses back.
There's no worse feeling than going in for a cut only to hate the result, and knowing you'll have to wait months to get your longer tresses back.
But if you're debating whether to revamp your look, fear not: a viral hack claims to scientifically prove whether your suit short or long hair better.
Laudi Lee is a style and beauty influencer who regularly shares helpful tips and hacks with her 373k followers on her Instagram account @Jen_X_Style_Beauty.
And in a recent clip that racked up a staggering two million views, she asked users: "Want to know if you look better with long hair or short hair?"
All you need are two pens and a measuring tape, she continues, before exemplifying the uber-easy method on her own face.
Take the first pen and hold it vertically under your ear by your lobe, and take the second one and place it horizontally under your skin.
You then want to mark using your fingers where the two intersect, making sure to keep your fingers clasped around that point on the vertical pen (the one under your ear).
Then, take your measuring tape and record how long the space is from the top of the pen to the intersectional point where your fingers are.
Apparently, if the space is less than two and a half inches you look better with short hair, while if it's more than, you're better off with long.
Laudi's own measurement was around three inches, suggesting long tresses are better for her – and she added that she "has to agree".
Her clip amassed a huge 14k likes, with viewers sharing their own take on the long versus short tresses debate.
"I absolutely love this!" one wrote. "A bit late though as I've just cut mine."
"Oh wow! That's so interesting! Thank you for the tip!" another added.
But of course, some users had a rather predictable problem upon trying the method out for themselves.
"I'm two-and-a-half inches so which do I go with?" one asked.
While others suggested that face measurements were less important than the length of your neck when deciding whether to chop your locks.
"What is most important is neck length," one user suggested. "Women with short necks should wear short hair."
