Makatu Tshivhula, a candle-maker from Soweto, has found a unique way to heal people through his business, The Light Candles. Despite having a degree in psychology, Tshivhula realized that his true calling lay in the craft of candle-making.

Tshivhula's candles have gained popularity among customers who are spiritual or religious. They are particularly sought after by those affected by power cuts, as well as churches and individuals who believe in communicating with their ancestors.

After working for a candle-making company for six months, Tshivhula decided to use his skills and knowledge to manufacture and distribute candles within his community. He found that making candles was relatively easy and felt a deep passion for creating something from nothing.

Although he initially intended to pursue further studies in psychology, Tshivhula's purpose shifted after joining the candle company. Many of his customers have reported feeling spiritually and mentally healed through his candles.

The Light Candles, which currently employs three people including Tshivhula, operates through deliveries to customers and walk-ins at their store located near Maponya Mall in Pimville, Soweto.

Tshivhula's story serves as an inspiration for individuals to follow their passions and explore unconventional paths. Despite having a psychology degree, he found fulfillment in the art of candle-making and discovered a unique way to bring healing and comfort to others.

His success also highlights the importance of catering to specific customer needs. By recognizing the demand for spiritual and religious products, Tshivhula was able to carve out a niche market for his candles.

Furthermore, his story emphasizes the potential for small businesses to thrive and make a positive impact within their communities. The Light Candles not only provides employment opportunities but also offers a valuable product that brings solace to its customers.

In a world where traditional healing methods are often overlooked, Tshivhula's candles serve as a reminder of the power of spirituality and the importance of connecting with one's ancestors. Through his craft, he has found a way to bridge the gap between ancient traditions and modern life.

As we celebrate Tshivhula's entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to healing, let us also recognize the value of pursuing one's passions and finding innovative ways to make a positive impact on others.
