Beauty with brains - Meet Miss South Africa who doubles up as a medical doctor

Mpumalanga doctor Claude Mashego has made history by being crowned the first-ever Miss World South Africa. The inaugural pageant took place at the Pretoria State Theatre, where twelve of the country's most beautiful women competed for the coveted crown.

As the winner, Claude will represent South Africa at the Miss World pageant in New Delhi, India next year.

When asked about the importance of the pageant, Claude gave a compelling response that solidified her victory. She believes that the Miss World SA platform is a platform for leadership for young people, which is crucial in a country that needs young leaders to rise up. With the 2024 elections on the horizon, Claude highlighted the need for young people to take their place in parliament and lead the country forward.

Claude's victory is not only a personal achievement but also a symbol of hope for young leaders in South Africa. She and her fellow finalists are standing as role models, proving that they are worthy leaders who can contribute to the country's progress. By participating in the pageant, Claude is using her platform to inspire other young people to step up and make a difference in their communities.

Beauty pageants often receive criticism for focusing solely on physical appearance. However, Claude's win demonstrates that these platforms can also be about more than just beauty. They can be a vehicle for promoting leadership, empowerment, and positive change. Claude's background as a doctor further exemplifies her commitment to serving others and making a meaningful impact on society.

As Claude prepares to represent South Africa on the global stage at the Miss World pageant, she carries with her the hopes and aspirations of many young people in the country. Her victory serves as a reminder that beauty is not just skin-deep, but also lies in the ability to inspire and lead.
