Nomsa "Nomisupasta" Mazwai may not be as fond of the spotlight as her multi-award-winning sister Thandiswa Mazwai is, but this talented artist has worked twice as hard to earn her name the respect she enjoys in the music industry.
And to build on to her stature, Mazwai recently announced that she would be recording a live DVD of songs from Nomisupasta, her "popular" self-titled debut album, on January 28.
The singer and songwriter said her musical adventure would take place at the Soweto Theatre in Soweto, south of Johannesburg.
Her voice has been on some of the hottest songs in South Africa, including her hit single with Black Coffee titled Traveller; the Metro FM classic, With You, sampled by 9th Wonder for Rapsody's The Idea of Beautiful album; and Kaya FM's No 1 hit single, Maybe I.
Born and raised in Soweto, Mazwai said filming her live act in the historic township was her contribution toward the area's development.
Now the general manager of the Soweto Theatre, the musician said she had also moved back to the township as a way for her to "connect with the artistic needs of the community I serve".
And this is fitting for a woman with a long list of achievements under her belt.
Mazwai, viewed as the epitome of Black Girl Magic, was the first female student representative council president at the University of Fort Hare.
"I've always wanted to be an artist and a leader," Mazwai said.
"People asked me, when there comes a time to choose one, what will you choose? I always answered, both. I'm so honoured that at the Soweto Theatre I have the opportunity to do both."
Mazwai said her show will be broken down into two segments.
The first one, featuring her and a full live band, will start at 3pm.
The second leg of the event will start from 8pm.
She also planned to share her vision for the Soweto Theatre on the night.
Tickets for the daytime show will go on sale today at noon.
