New Year's Eve is a time of celebration with family and friends . It is the time of year where people come together and celebrate what they anticipate to be a great year ahead.

President Zuma wishes #Mzansi a happy, prosperous and productive #2017

President Jacob Zuma on Friday wished all South Africans a happy, productive and prosperous New Year.

Zuma, in a statement, said the country had come to the conclusion "of a fruitful and productive year".

He said in 2016 more had been done in terms of fighting poverty, inequality and unemployment.

Progress had also been made in extending services to people, including housing, water, electricity, accessible education, health care, roads, transport, social grants and fighting hunger through public employment schemes and other programmes, Zuma said.

"Jobs remain high on the list of priorities of our people… we must continue to promote unity in action to reignite economic growth."

He said government, business and labour needed to continue collaborating to support the economy.

"Together, we must take the economic transformation programme forward. We need to change the commanding heights of the economy, and increase the participation of black people as owners and managers."

Zuma said in 2017, meaningful progress must be made on the land reform and restitution programme.

He said one of the key tasks of building social cohesion would be to heighten the fight against racism in 2017.

"All institutions and businesses must promote inclusion and non-racialism. Nobody must be excluded on the basis of colour or race, through subtle and unconstitutional means."

Foods to avoid on #NewYearsEve that can give you bad luck in the new year - According to some #traditions

Okay so i earlier wrote about good luck foods to eat on new years eve. What about those that you need to steer clear from?

Well I googled around and found a few. Please note that these are based on superstitious beliefs by some cultures worldwide.

Lobster, for instance, is said to be a bad idea since they move backwards and could therefore lead to setbacks.

Chicken is also discouraged because the bird scratches backwards, which could cause regret or dwelling on the past.

Another theory warns against eating any winged fowl because good luck could fly away.

But Toby Gilbert, owner of Gilbert's Provisions in Berlin believes New Year's Eve is all about throwing caution to the wind.

"It should be a night devoted to decadence and indulgence," he said. "You know, one last hooray before becoming a better person."

Gilbert says go for the lobster, worry free, and leave luck up to fate.

#2016: Here are those that stood out for me in #Sports

Having had the privilege of watching live sport both on TV and at the stadia, I have come up with my own list of people and events that stood out for me in 2016.

Newsmaker of the year - I will go with both Usain Bolt and Cristiano Ronaldo. Being an Olympic year, Bolt lit Rio 2016 securing the 'triple treble' proving why he is simply the best athlete in the world. Meanwhile, Ronaldo made 2016 his own bagging the Uefa Champions League, Euro 2016 ( For the first time in Portugal's history) and the Ballon Dor. He also won several other individual accolades and even opened his own hotel. Now how inspiring is that?

The turnaround award - Its been a phenomenal year for Johan Ackermann and his Lions (Super Rugby) charges. From being perennial achievers to being one the biggest forces in world club rugby.

Coach of the year - Pitso Mosimane vs Eric Tinkler? Both men had such an incredible calendar year. But for winning the Absa Premiership and the Caf Champions League with Sundowns, Mosimane is my coach of the year. To cap off a fine year, he beat the likes of Arsene Wenger in the IFFHS rankings.

The biggest upset award - I will go back to rugby. Ireland upsetting the All Blacks by a huge scoreline was the biggest shock of the year.

Epic fail award - No double thinking this one. The Springboks moved from hero to zero all in a year. If defeat by Japan at the 2015 IRB World Cup was a shock, how do we classify losses to minors such as Italy in 2016?

Saddest moment of the year - It will have to be Muhammed Ali's death. It was one of the most saddest moments in world sport.

Memorable moment of the year - Leicester City were the biggest story of the year. Having started the 2015/16 season as 1/5000 odds to win the EPL, they won hearts week in and out as they grabbed their first ever league title. What a sporting memory!

The best team award - I am tempted to be biased and go with my Leeds United who are currently riding the crest of a wave but I will go with the Hurricanes (Super Rugby). They amazingly defied the odds moving from being whipping boys to claiming the biggest club rugby prize in the Southern hemisphere.

Newbie of the year - Newly formed Cape Town City are making so much noise in the Absa Premiership and are threatening to win the league title in their maiden season.

My sports wish List for 2017 -
1) LEEDS to continue their rich vein of form and get promoted back to the EPL. If that happens I will be the happiest man in the world.
2) The Springboks to give rugby fans some seriousness and start playing rugby. International Tests involving the All Blacks, Australia, England, Ireland and the Springboks define rugby.
3) Zimbabwe to at least get to the finals of Afcon 2017. The Warriors have the golden generation capable of anything.
4) For Tiger Woods to rekindle his magic and get back to the top of his game.
5) For Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic to get more challengers in tennis.
6) To continue enjoying the EPL, La Liga, Ligue One, Bundesliga, tennis grand slams, Super Rugby, Rugby Championship, Absa premiership and all the big sporting events awaiting the new year.

Police will be out in full force on #NewYearsEve - #SAPS

With just two days to go until the end of 2016, police are preparing for New Year's Eve celebrations, warning they will come down hard on criminals.

In a statement released yesterday, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said all law enforcement agencies were mobilising all their resources and would be out in full force on December 31.

He warned that strong action would be taken against illegal activities often associated with New Year's Eve celebrations, such as drunk driving and other traffic violations, drug trafficking and the illegal sale of liquor.

Undercover police would be on the beat too in a bid to identify people engaging in illegal activities, the statement added.

"Police are appealing to those who will be celebrating at home to make sure that their gates, doors and vehicles are locked to discourage criminal activities."

The statement also warned members of the public against accepting drinks from strangers, saying they might be spiked with substances with the aim of taking advantage of victims.

It also said that women should try to avoid walking alone especially in the early hours of the morning, as they might become the victims of crime including sexual assault.

Noting that hoax calls to the 10111 emergency call centre usually peaked on New Year's Eve, Dlamini urged people to be patient when asked to provide specific details.

2. Taylor Swift should take dance lessons. No shade! It just seems like she loves to dance and it's always nice to have a hobby.

3. Kim needs to officially quit social media. She can distribute her selfies in sequels to her coffee table book. Security problem solved.

4. Speaking of books, Kanye should write a book. Writing is sooooo cathartic. Think of all the pages he'd have on technology!

5. Selena Gomez should also release a book. What about a self-help book? She must have so much to share.

8. Leonardo DiCaprio should play an original character. Enough with the biopics, Leo. Your fans deserve better. Jack Dawson deserves better.

13. Channing Tatum should post more videos of him and Jenna dancing. The world needs more of that joy .

15. Rihanna should release a line of pop culture T-shirts. Her Hillary-RiRi- Inception shirt was so extra, why stop there?

16. Sarah Jessica Parker needs to stop talking about Sex and the City 3. Or just make it already. But please stop tormenting the fans.

17. James Corden should have Beyoncé on Carpool Karaoke. We're in heaven just thinking about it.

18. Katy Perry should stay political. Thank you for everything in 2016. Please do more.

19. Jennifer Aniston should sign up for a Netflix series. Would binge-watch immediately.

20. Andy Cohen should have Mariah Carey and J.Lo meet on Watch What Happens . This should put an end to the whole "I don't know her" situation.

Serena Williams says YES! #Engaged #Reddit #Tennis

Tennis great Serena Williams and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian
are engaged.

A spokesperson for Ohanian confirmed that he popped the question while the
two were vacationing in Rome. Williams first announced the news herself in a
Reddit post on its "r/isaidyes" forum.

"I came home/A little late/Someone had a bag packed for me/And a carriage
awaited" Williams said in her Reddit post, which was written like a poem and
had a cartoon of the couple at the top. "Destination: Rome/To escort me to
my very own 'charming'/Back to where our stars first collided/And now it
was full circle/At the same table we first met by chance/This time he made it
not by chance/But by choice/Down on one knee/He said 4 words/And/r/isaidyes."

Ohanian also announced the engagement on his Facebook page, linking to Williams' Reddit post and adding, "She said yes."

Williams and Ohanian, who have been dating since the fall of 2015, have mostly kept their romance out of the spotlight, though she does post pictures of them on her Instagram account from time to time.

Good luck foods to eat on #NewYearsEve - According to some #Traditions #2017

Each New Year's, foodies around the world devour specific foods to summon good luck for the next 365 days. While some traditions call for fruit and others call for noodles, all the edibles connote forward movement, prosperity and health.

Whether or not you are superstitious, take a look at our list of common celebratory eats. If no luck comes your way, at least you will go into the new year with a full belly.

Grapes

New Year's revelers in Spain consume 12 grapes at midnight — one for each month. The tradition dates back to 1909, when grape growers in the Alicante region of Spain initiated the practice to take care of a grape surplus.

The idea stuck, spreading to Portugal, Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico, Ecuador and Peru. For most, the goal is to swallow all the grapes before the last stroke of midnight, but Peruvians insist on a 13th grape for good measure.

Mike Zygmonski, wine director for SoDel Concepts, suggests pairing the tradition with a nice glass of Spanish Cava (sparkling wine), such as Segura Viudas Reserva Heredad Brut.

Round Treats

From Christmas to New Year's Day around the world, cakes, doughnuts, bagels and other baked goods, are enjoyed since they are said to bring a "coming full circle" year ahead.

Italy has chiacchiere, which are honey-drenched balls of pasta dough fried and dusted with powdered sugar. Poland, Hungary, and the Netherlands also eat doughnuts, and Holland has ollie bollen, puffy, doughnut-like pastries filled with apples, raisins and currants.

Long Noodles

In China, Japan and other Asian countries, it is customary to eat long noodles, signify longevity, on New Year’s Day. Since the noodles are never to be broken or shortened during the cooking process, the typical preparation is a stir-fry.

Pork

The custom of eating pork on New Year's Eve comes from idea that pigs symbolize progress. The animal pushes forward, rooting itself in the ground before moving, said Doug Ruley, executive chef at SoDel Concepts.

Roast suckling pig is served for the New Year's celebration in Cuba, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, and Austria. Different pork dishes such as pig's feet are enjoyed in Sweden while Germans feast on roast pork and sausages. Pork is also consumed in Italy and the United States, where thanks to its rich fat content, it signifies wealth and prosperity.

Black-eyed Peas

Considered lucky for their penny-like appearance and abundance, these peas, are enjoyed in the United States, and traditionally served down South in a dish called hoppin' John, said Gary Papp, owner of Palate in Rehoboth Beach.

Fish

Fish on New Year's Eve is like turkey on Thanksgiving.

According to Mark Kurlansky, author of Cod: A Biography of the Fish that Changed the World, cod has been a popular feast food since the Middle Ages. It could be preserved and transported allowing it to reach the Mediterranean and even as far as North Africa and the Caribbean.

Today, the Danish eat boiled cod, while in Italy, dried salt cod is enjoyed from Christmas through New Year's. Herring, another frequently preserved fish, is consumed at midnight in Poland and Germany. The Swedish New Year feast is usually a smorgasbord with a variety of fish dishes, and in Japan, herring roe is consumed for fertility, shrimp for long life, and dried sardines for a good harvest.

Cornbread

Cornbread is especially venerated as a New Year’s Eve treat in the United States, said Papp. Why? Its color resembles that of gold. To ensure extra luck, some people add in extra corn kernels, emblematic of golden nuggets.

Lip Sync Battle Africa surely made for great viewing in 2016 #LipSyncBattleAfrica

The cock is about to roost to signal the end of yet another long way. 2016 definitely had its ups and downs and the entertainment industry had its fair share of the cake.

Plugs were pulled on certain shows, stars crossed floors to join other productions, some entertainers sadly passed away.

It was also not so gleam as some new productions broke the flooded entertainment market with a big bang. One such is Lip Sync Battle Africa.

South Africa became the eighth county to adapt the popular hit show.

Media personality Pearl Thusi (Now riding on the crest of yet another huge wave in the United States) and Nigerian Afrobeat singer D'Banj lit up the stage every week as both local and African celebrities battled for honours on the show.

The local series had all the bells and whistles of the international one: dancers, wigs, costumes, props and tons of swag. Of course the sexy Boity Thulo was the first champ.

One can only hope the fun continues in 2017.

#Christmas dinner food ideas

We all look forward to Christmas dinner but it can be a nightmare to organise on the day.

Is the turkey done? When should we put the potatoes in? And just how do you get them nice and crispy? "Please don't give us mushy sprouts again!" Sound familiar? Well help is on hand, sit back, relax and read on.

Delia's Pigs in Blankets

Seal the sausages and then cool and slit. Spoon in hot horseradish. Stretch the bacon and wrap around the sausages to seal in the horseradish. Cook in the oven for 10-15 minutes and then serve.

Phil's Perfect Parsnips

Boil first. Then put them in the oven at 200°C/Gas Mark 6 with a bit of oil for 40 minutes, turning once. Cut them in half so they are chunky. Pour on 2tbsp honey and sprinkle over 1tbsp cumin and cook for a further five minutes to
glaze. They burn quickly, so keep an eye on them.

Jason's Perfect Roasties

Peel the potatoes, cut into even-sized chunks. Boil for 10mins, until the outer edge is fluffy but not totally falling apart. Drain and leave to steam for 5mins.
Then, give them a vigorous toss in the colander to roughen up the cooked edges.

Add the potatoes to your tray, making sure each one is covered in fat and give them a sprinkling of salt. Place them on the highest shelf of the oven and roast for 40-50 minutes, or until golden brown. Sprinkle with a little more crushed
salt before serving.

Jamie's Cumin Carrots

Put the carrots into a saucepan and cover with water. Add a tbsp of sugar, a knob of butter and a pinch of salt. Cook until tender then sprinkle over 2tbsp of cumin. Serve topped with the remaining knob of butter.

Nigella's Saucy Treats

Cranberry sauce: Add two tablespoons of double cream at the end and sprinkle with lots of grated nutmeg.

Bread sauce: Add two tablespoons of double cream at the end and then sprinkle with plenty of grated nutmeg.

How to drink like a pro this #Christmas without screwing up!

You've got this. Just don't screw it up.

There's a certain inevitability about drinking during the holidays: You
will probably do too much of it, you will probably say something embarrassing in front of a family member you haven't seen in four years, and you will definitely, definitely be taking a lot of daytime naps in that week between Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Unless you're one of those superheroes who doesn't drink ANY time of year, it's hard not to totally overdo it at Christmas: It gets dark around 7 p.m., making you want to drink. You invariably have to spend a lot of your time hanging out with people you unfriended on Facebook seven months ago, making you want to drink.

Half the fucking songs playing everywhere right now are about wine or cider or whatever, making you absolutely want one of those. But there's the cozy, idealized version of holiday day drinking, and then there is the stark, cold reality, which results in you waking up at 5 a.m. in your creaking childhood twin bed with a pounding headache.

Here's what to remember to keep things on the "here we come a-wassailing" cheery end of the spectrum.

Assess the Situation

The first thing you're gonna want to do is identify the kind of holiday
you're dealing with. Are you coming home for the first time in a while
and doing the rounds with bunches of friends/family you haven't seen
in a while? Are you staying put and just... hanging out? Are you going
to spend it with a significant other?

If it's the first kind, you're in luck, because everyone is as bored and
nervous as you are. Without fail, prosecco will be flowing at family
events, but those things are delicious and pack an odd, surprising punch
if you go too fast. It can be tempting to overdo it in the name of getting
this all over with, but please remember two simple truths:
1) Getting blackout in front of your extended family will be a story that sticks to you for all recorded time hence, and
2) You can just straight-up leave whenever you want anyway. Even if dad drove, just like the old days. Uber's a thing now. You have an escape.

Take Breaks

There are, obviously, steadfast drinking rules that have stood the test of
time, and it is more vital than ever to adhere to them: keep switching to
water every other drink or so (hell, do your best to only drink every
other DAY, if you can), keep eating, and most certainly stop the minute
you start crushing on your high school enemy's cousin in the bar on
Christmas Eve.

If you're spending Christmas with a significant other, this also creates a
great opportunity to both stretch your legs and show off any neat drink-
making tricks you've picked up along the way by mixing drinks for
other people. Everyone will love that you know how to properly handle
and use a cocktail shaker. Make something cool for everyone—it'll keep
you busy and earn you some serious points.

Timing Is Everything

The perfect time to start day drinking during the holidays is 3 p.m. This
isn't an opinion, it's science. At 3 p.m., the sun is just about setting
already, and you've lived enough of your day that a drink feels earned.
Even after a couple, it'll be dark out and you can either take a quick
nap or have some food. It's foolproof. I could tell you to try to wait until
3 p.m.-ish on any given day to start the festivities, but we know that's
unrealistic. Just, keep it in mind.

All of this advice, as does any advice, changes if you're having one of
those meditative but not necessarily sad solo holidays, that you see in
films sometimes. In this case, it's perfectly acceptable to start whenever
you want, especially on Christmas Day itself. Buy a nice thing of
grapefruit juice and have yourself a greyhound party while you Skype
your relatives from the safety of your own home.

The holidays are a time for happiness, togetherness, and love. But, shit,
that's awfully hard to achieve at the best of times. Don't be afraid to
deputize when you need a little help.

TAKE A BOW: QDK is simply the best #Proteas #ICC

South Africa's wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has been named as the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year.

He is the second South Africa player after AB de Villiers (2010, 2014 and 2015) and ninth overall to clinch this award.

In the voting period, de Kock scored 793 runs in 16 ODIs with four centuries and a half-century. He averaged over 56 and held a strike-rate of just under 98. With the gloves, de Kock dismissed 15 batsmen behind the wickets.

A happy de Kock said: "It's great to hear that I've been named as the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year. To be named as the best from among so many good cricketers gives one utmost satisfaction.

"This award obviously rewards consistent performances at the top level and I'm happy to have done well for my team over this period. To join a select group of players that include my senior AB de Villiers makes this a special moment, one that I'll cherish for long. I thank the ICC for selecting me for this award and to my team-members and support staff for all their help and support."

Police stations won't close on #Christmas or #NewYears - #SAPS

South African Police Service (SAPS) on Thursday dismissed reports that some of its police stations will not be operating on Christmas Day and New Years Eve.

This comes after it was reported that some police stations will be closed for Christmas Day and New Years Eve.

SAPS emphasised that operations were launched several weeks ago and there is no doubt that our communities have witnessed the heightened police visibility.

"SAPS has intensified its efforts to ensure that all in South Africa are and feel safe over the festive season. Countrywide operations were launched several weeks ago and there is no doubt that our communities have witnessed the heightened police visibility." SAPS said in a the statement.

According to SAPS the reports of the closure of stations first surfaced on a satirical news-site which even quoted Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane as conforming the news.

However SAPS has distanced itself from the reports adding that they " find this type of misguided humour tasteless and misleading."

On Thursday Phahlane urged citizens to be alert and stay safe this festive season.

"Let us unite as a nation over this holiday period and focus on staying safe in all environments, whether at a holiday destination, at home, in the workplace or out shopping," Phahlane said.

"There is no need to sow panic or create false alarm. There is a place for humour, undoubtedly, but it is not in this environment," continued Phahlane

The past few weeks have seen a number of "pass out parades" hosted across where newly graduated SAPS members are finally directed to hit the streets in curbing crime this festive season.

On Christmas Day, I'll be in Namibia performing at the Walvis Bay Xmas music festival. New Year's Eve, I'll be in Newtown, Rustenburg and Durban. I'm really excited.

What is your favourite Christmas dish?

I don't have a favourite. I just eat whatever is cooked for the family. Christmas food is always delicious.

Will you be buying any Christmas gifts?

I don't know what I'd buy, to be honest, but I'd buy so many gifts for my mother, my children, my friends and colleagues. They deserve it all.

Do you have any plans to go on holiday?

No. When things calm down in January I'll think of a perfect getaway.

#ProductReview: #Jameson 12yr old has that #KeDezembaBoss factor

There is something so delightful about Irish Whiskey to me. I honestly can't tell you what it is, but I'm consistently drawn to it. Sure I'll spend weeks at a time deep in bourbon country or on the Isles of Scotland, but I always find myself back in Ireland.

No matter what the reason, it always feels a bit like coming home to me when I pour a dram of something Irish. Comforting is the best way I can describe it.
Overall I like the Jameson 12 yr Special Reserve. I don't love it and it has it's flaws (price being one of them), but it's something that I could settle in with over a long weekend.

Something that is easy to slowly sip neat and enjoy the mingling of sweet dessert notes with malt and that classic Irish spice. It's definitely not my go-to, but it's something tasty and mellow that compliments a relaxing afternoon at home.

What do you think of the Jameson 12 yr Special Reserve?

Jameson 12 Review

ABV: 40%

EYE: Amber

NOSE: Warm caramel, malt and citrus float out of the glass and up the nose. Following close behind are notes of butterscotch, grains, spice and vanilla frosting with a kick of grain alcohol rolling about.

TASTE: Caramel and malt pair off with some dark fruit and hard candy which stirs up some toffee, citrus, 'Nilla Wafers and a bit of grain alcohol. Sherry like sweetness permeates the entire palate and gives it an almost cloying nature and if it weren't for the malt and spice notes this would topple over under the weight of the repeating sweetness.

FEEL: Smooth and supple this is the texture Irish Whiskey is famous for and is winning them new fans left and right.

FINISH: A long finish of malt, cinnamon, caramel and wood slowly fades to grain alcohol.

SCORE : 89/100

#Beyonce in royalties lawsuit

Beyonce is being sued by artist Dwayne Walker for using the Roc-A-Fella Records logo he designed in her Drunk in Love video without permission.

Walker maintains he was hired to create the logo back in 1995 and he previously brought a lawsuit against Beyoncé's husband, rapper Jay Z, his former business partner Damon Dash and executives at Universal Music Group back in 2012, requesting $7 million in unpaid royalties.

That claim was dismissed this September after Walker couldn't prove his case, and now his attention has turned to Beyoncé.

In legal papers, Walker's new legal case states that the R&B superstar never asked him for permission to prominently display the logo in the 2013 promotional video.

Walker is requesting the courts stop the video from being aired and he wants a share of profits made from the promo in the years since it was released.
In the video, there is a quick shot in which Jay Z is seen wearing a diamond-studded pendant which features the logo. However, he is not named in the lawsuit.

#Twitter chief technology officer calls it a day

Twitter's chief technology officer on Monday said his leaving the company, his departure adding to a roster of exiting executives at the one-to-many messaging service.

Adam Messinger had been with Twitter for five years, most recently heading engineering and products.

"I've decided to leave Twitter and take some time off," Messinger said in a tweet, not specifying his plans for the future.

Twitter vice president of product Josh McFarland also put out word on Tuesday that he is leaving the company, with plans to join Greylock Partners venture capital firm in Silicon Valley.

San Francisco-based Twitter has been striving to boost its ranks of users and revenue.

In an email reply to an AFP inquiry, Twitter said it is "taking steps to streamline and flatten the organization by elevating our engineering, product and design functions, with each area now reporting directly to" co-founder and chief executive Jack Dorsey.

Twitter announced the departure of chief operating officer Adam Bain last month, just weeks after reporting job cuts and a disappointing fiscal quarter.

Twitter reported a net loss for the third quarter ended September 30 of $103 million, compared with a $132 million loss a year earlier. Revenues meanwhile grew eight percent year-over-year to $616 million, most of that from advertising.

The key metric of monthly active users rose only modestly to 317 million from 313 million in the prior quarter — a growth pace that has prompted concerns over Twitter's ability to keep up in the fast-moving world of social media.

The announced job cuts amounted to about 350 positions based on the Twitter website's headcount of 3,860 employees worldwide.

Twitter said the restructuring "is intended to create greater focus and efficiency to enable Twitter's goal of driving toward (net) profitability in 2017."

Analysts however remain skeptical about Twitter's outlook for expansion, expressing concerns about its ability to entice users beyond its core base.

Shumaya singer in hot water for slapping a cop #KeDezemba

On Monday morning Shumaya singer Zinhle Ngidi drove with her manager Bhuti Sitole to fetch her toddler from her mother's flat in downtown Joburg.

On entering the street, the pair were stopped by police due to a road closure.
"We told the officer we needed to park closer to the flat in order for us to fetch a baby and get the baby's luggage which was too much for Zinhle to carry on her own."
But they say they were told to "voetsek."

Sithole says after attempting to go into the flat, they eventually parked some distance from the street and Zinhe walked to get the baby and was assisted by her mother and her sister in carrying the baby's luggage back to the car.

While packing the luggage in the car, Sithole says officer M.A. Tshoane approached them and started swearing and being aggressive.

"Zinhle told the officer that we did not use the road, we listened to them and we parked somewhere else," says Sithole.

Sithole says the Metro police officer then became more aggressive, pushed Zinhle's mom out of the way and went charging at Zinhle with a smack.

"I wont lie, Zinhle smacked her back because she was defending herself," Sithole says.

He added that Zinhle was detained with her toddler and the child was later given to her mother.

"Zinhle is currently being detained with her sister; who did nothing, at John Voster Police Station in Johannesburg and we are waiting for the lawyer to attend to the matter."

Sithole says they tried to open a case at the police station but the officers told them they are not allowed to open a case.

Avoid the festive season spending rush

Staying on the straight and narrow with finances during festive season is not easy, but it can be done. During the festive season, most people let their guard down and fail to monitor how and what they spend money on.

Stephan Buys, Head of Strategic Collaboration at FNB Cash Investments, says "The best way to get around festive season spending is to set up a festive season fund, which can be used for year-end expenses."

Buys says the ideal scenarios would have been to save for your festive season spending. "For example, if you had put aside R200 over a twelve month period that would translate to a R2, 400 saving at the end of the year, and depending on the type of your savings vehicle, you could have also earned interest. This money can be used to fund expenses such as presents or entertainment."

"If you don't have any savings, be strict with you budget to avoid overspending. Never fall into the trap of spending wastefully because when the festive season ends expenses such as transport, school fees and groceries will have to be accounted for," he adds.

Having a December fund also means not having to scramble for extra cash at the start of the New Year.

Here are a few additional steps to ensure frugal spending during the festive season:

·         Instead of dining out rather prepare meals at home; it works out cheaper especially for a large group of people.

·         Never fall into the trap of spending money you do not have, because this only means you will sink deeper into debt.

·         When an unexpected expense (big or small) arises, note it down and see how it will affect your budgeting in the long-term.

·         Know what is spent versus what is earned; track your expenses as you spend

·         Even though the festive season is a time to be merry, it's important to identify needs and wants; a want is something you can't live without. So if you can live without it for a while then the gratification can be delayed.

By following these simple steps it will be easy to control spending and also measure success, however, the next step is to maintain momentum.

All too often a commitment to save is made and the right steps are followed but there's no consistency and its back to the old spending habits.

Last chance to win some fine wine #Port2Port port2port.wine/competition

Port2Port.co.za, online e-commerce merchant that is changing the face of wine retailing in South Africa, together with fine wine importer Reciprocal Wine, have launched the festive season with a competition which includes "the most coveted Champagne in the world".

This season, founders of both Port2Port, Nicolò Stortiglione Pudel and Vincent Bührer, together with Tarryn Vincent for Reciprocal, decided to offer wine lovers some of the most desirable wines in the world, presented as an assortment of special cases online, some of which include the highly coveted Prestige Cuvée from Louis Roederer, the Louis Roederer Cristal 2009 – while also offering consumers the opportunity to win this Prestige Cuveé - valued at R3 295- online.

"Cristal is not just the Champagne of choice of rappers and socialites. It was first served on June 7th 1867 at the Three Emperor's Dinner at the pleasure of King William I of Prussia. Of all the Champagne brands, Louis Roederer Cristal elicits a reverence from collectors and fine wine lovers that is unparalleled. Its exclusivity, coupled with its association with royalty, and of course unrivalled taste, has made it one of the most desired, prestigious luxury items in the world, which makes it an extremely appropriate product to buy – or if you are very generous, to gift – this festive season. We wanted to provide consumers accessibility to this coveted Champagne, and for that we partnered with the sole importers of Louis Roederer in South Africa, Reciprocal Wines. We will be offering Louis Roederer Cristal in our specially curated wine cases this season, as well as a prize in an online competition," says Pudel.

Louis Roederer Cristal was originally crafted for Tsar Alexander II of Russia, and unlike other Champagne bottles, it is a clear bottle and has a level bottom – a design which still dates from the 1800s when the Tsar required a transparent bottle to detect poisonous residue, in case of an assassination attempt – and to this day it is made from Grand Cru vineyards, and only in exceptional years. Cristal is aged for 6 years, and left for a further 8 months after dégorgement.

The Louis Roederer special cases, as well as the competition gift pack, are packaged with Riedel glasses, the appropriate stemware to enhance the luxurious experience, says Tarryn Vincent from Reciprocal.  "The special select cases that we've curated with Port2Port, are for truly celebratory moments, and for those who enjoy living in the 'now'. It is a luxury item, and therefore appropriate for the festive season."

Here is what trended on #Google South Africa in 2016

It has been a year that has rocked our political foundations‚ but many South Africans will remember 2016 as the year of Pokémon Go.

In the midst of revelations about state capture that hogged the headlines‚ politics only made it to No 5 on Google's list — and that was for Donald Trump‚ elected last month as the 45th US President.

Kelly Khumalo returns to #RhythmCity

She made her debut almost 10 years ago as Sunay in e.tv's Rhythm City.

Controversial singer Kelly Khumalo captured viewers and heated things up in the show. Now, the mother-of-two is back on set. She's busy filming scenes and we'll get to see her in action from Tuesday 10 January.

Viewers can expect nothing less than drama from the sultry Sunay – a role that's very much like Kelly herself.

Something about Sunay

Sunay is a sexy, exciting Afro-pop/R&B singer. She's the local version of a Material Girl: she loves a party and goes to every social event, especially if there's alcohol and media. She wears short, sexy clothes and is definitely promiscuous. She's been in rehab for cocaine addiction, which we'll discover she hasn't totally kicked.

How about having a beer that suits your DNA?

Beer drinkers could soon be knocking back a pint specially designed to suit their DNA.

A brewery has invented a way to find out what flavour ale lovers want by studying their genetics.

But you might have to skip a few rounds down the local to afford it. For the process costs an eye-watering £25,000.

Brewmaster Ciaran Giblin, of London-based Meantime Brewery, claimed it was a unique innovation.

He said: "Having been aware of the potential of at-home genetic mapping, I sent a simple saliva sample to a DNA- testing company.

"The results gave me the tools I needed to develop a recipe based on the elements my senses are most attuned to enjoy. I'm delighted with the result.
This has given us the opportunity to really push the boundaries of innovative, personalised brewing."

Customers who sign up to the scheme will receive "at least" 2,000 pints of their own "Bespoke beer" – which works out at a hefty £12 a pint.

They will also be given the opportunity to learn more about the craft of brewing.

Ciaran explained: "I was determined to step things up a notch and bring personal preference to the forefront with the intention of brewing the ultimate beer.

"This led us to the creation of a beer which is specifically tailored to one person – me."

This December #Samsung has you covered

Holiday season is just around the corner and wherever you plan to go for your summer vacation, you want your holiday to run smoothly and free from worry.

Therefore, why not consider to download Waze or an equivalent map service from the app store, to ensure you find your destination with ease. Perhaps you want to consider loading the latest weather app, to be forewarned of the weather conditions for your holiday. You may even have obtained a calendar of the most exciting events in the region you are travelling to.

However, all this will be in vain if something happens to your mobile device and you find yourself far from home, requiring repairs. Unless of course, it is a Samsung product, as service assistance for all devices and appliances are available during holidays - via multiple channels - across the country.

Should you be staying in one of the major metropolitan areas, you will be able to make use of Samsung's cyber-booking facility to quickly book the repair in advance. Cyber-booking is designed to expedite faster and more effective service and is available across the Samsung customer service plazas in Johannesburg, Midrand, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

Travel without concerns knowing that issues with any of your devices can easily be dealt with. But what do you do if, for example, your fridge experiences problems while you are away? You certainly don't want to come home to a freezer full of spoilt food.

The answer is quite simple, explains Chetty. "Ensure that your house-sitter or emergency contact has the details for Samsung support channels, along with the warranty details for your Samsung appliances. They can then contact us for help on 0860 726 786."

There are a number of options to choose from. They could utilise Samsung's Online Chat service, where experts are available to talk the customer through a range of troubleshooting options. If this service could not assist in resolving the problem, the agent will then contact the service centre number to log a call for the customer, in order to provide Samsung's in-home service. These repairs will be done free of charge, as long as the product is still within its warranty.

De Villiers, Steyn, Morkel, Rossouw out of #Proteas Test squad

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) today named VKB Knights captain Theunis de Bruyn as a new cap in the Standard Bank Proteas Test squad for the three-match Sunfoil Test Series against Sri Lanka.

The selectors have announced a squad of 13 for the two matches over the festive season at St. George's Park from December 26 to 30 and at PPC Newlands from January 2 to 6.

The 24-year-old takes the place of his franchise colleague, Rilee Rossouw, who was one of several players who could not be considered for selection because of injury. Other players ruled out of consideration for this reason are AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel.

The selectors have reduced the squad of 16 for the Australia tour to 13, largely because there is no need for a replacement wicketkeeper or a second specialist spinner for a home series.

Wayne Parnell, who was ruled out of the Australian tour through injury, returns to the squad.

"De Bruyn is the latest player to be rewarded for consistently good form at franchise and South Africa A level," commented CSA selection convener, Linda Zondi. "He has an outstanding first-class career average of 48.73 (6 centuries) and has made 423 runs at 60.42 in this season's Sunfoil Series four-day competition.

"As far as the overall squad is concerned they deserve the fullest vote of confidence for their performances in the two recent Test series against New Zealand and Australia and we are looking forward to more of the same against Sri Lanka.

"Credit to AB de Villiers for the smooth way the leadership transition has taken place. We certainly look forward to having him back for the limited overs portion of the tour. Faf has done an outstanding job in the last two Test series and our leadership is in very good hands," concluded Zondi.

Standard Bank Proteas Test squad: Faf du Plessis (Multiply Titans, capt), Kyle Abbott (Warriors), Hashim Amla (BuildNat Cape Cobras), Temba Bavuma (bizhub Highveld Lions), Stephen Cook (bizhub Highveld Lions), Theunis de Bruyn (VKB Knights), Quinton de Kock (Multiply Titans), JP Duminy (BuildNat Cape Cobras), Dean Elgar (Multiply Titans), Keshav Maharaj (Hollywoodbets Dolphins), Wayne Parnell (BuildNat Cape Cobras), Vernon Philander (BuildNat Cape Cobras), Kagiso Rabada (bizhub Highveld Lions).

Following the drama around the US presidential election, Noah is prepping his lines for his biggest guest to date: President Barack Obama.

Noah's interview with President Obama will take place at The White House. The interview will be broadcast across Africa on Comedy Central, (DStv channel 122) at 9pm tonight.

In the months leading up to the remarkable election, Noah interviewed notable political figures, including former President Bill Clinton (September 15), who received a gift of a balloon drop courtesy of Noah, and Republican presidential candidates Dr Ben Carson (April 19), who entered into a debate with Noah's alter ego, Dr Ken Carson, Senator Lindsay Graham (March 23), who shot pool with Noah, Senator Rand Paul (January 13), who debated with Trevor over glasses of Kentucky bourbon and Governor Chris Christie (September 30), who appeared during Noah's first week as host.

The appearance by Obama on The Daily Show is nothing new as he has been a guest seven times, with the last being in July 2015, one month before former host Jon Stewart departed from the show and announced Noah as his successor. That episode drew 1.514 million viewers. In recent weeks, The Daily Show has averaged 530 000 viewers.

Although the show's ratings have dropped off since Stewart's departure, Noah has gained increased attention since the election for segments such as his recent interview with right-wing commentator Tomi Lahren.

The show has also seen its multiplatform streams increase 180% from a year ago.
