South African actress, musician, socialite, TV host and unapologetic personality Khanyi Mbau will take centre stage in a global first – she will feature in the first Comedy Central Roast of an African woman.
Mbau will sit fearlessly on the Roast throne while comedians and other African personalities sharpen their claws.
With panelist announcements to follow in the coming weeks, there is no doubt this will be the hottest ticket in town.
The Comedy Central Roast of Mbau is brought to you by Showmax and will be recorded at a live taping next month.
Mbau sees this as the perfect extension of all she has brought to the entertainment industry during her career.
"Who else but me? The first African female to be roasted by Comedy Central was only ever going to be me, even your favs could never," Mbau said.
"You've said what you said, now say it to my face. We're excited to bring the laughs to Mzansi with our partners, Showmax, for The Comedy Central Roast of Khanyi Mbau.
"After two years of the pandemic, we're ready to feel the roasts and laugh in person and as such we're committed to bringing the best in comic relief to African audiences," said Dillon Khan, vice president of Comedy Central Africa.
"Mbau steamed up Showmax screens this year as Zandile in The Wife S2, which broke records and topped Twitter," says Candice Fangueiro, head of content at Showmax.
"Things haven't turned out well for anyone who's messed with Zandile and the Zulu brothers' family so far, so goodluck to anyone brave enough to try to roast her."
The Comedy Central Roast of Khanyi Mbau will debut on Comedy Central Africa (DStv Channel 122) and Showmax in August.
