This year's gin festival arrived in Polokwane on May 28, which made for a fun-filled and colourful event at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World.
Schweppes sponsored the event, which included a variety of local and international gin products, live entertainment, good music and great food.
The gin-dedicated event takes place annually in various regions, and this year Polokwane received the golden opportunity to experience craft gin enthusiasts and makers getting together to enjoy the day and discover various gin brands.
People showcased their products while guests were eager to meet the makers and taste the gin. Bathabile Moreki, from The Gin Co, said the event is a great platform to advertise brands and to socialise with other gin makers.
"I enjoy festivals like these because it allows me to show off my product and inspire other women to pursue their goals to produce their own gin products, if they want. What better place to do that than at a gin festival," Moreki said.
Organiser of the festival, Deon Mastenbroek, said the idea has always been to create a platform for local gin makers to market their products.
"We only hosted events in Johannesburg when we initially started, but we have since expanded into other regions and this year is the first time we're in Polokwane, which we hope will become an annual event.
"We've had a slow start, but gin lovers came out in their numbers later.
"We want residents to be blown away by the marketing and products they see at the gin stalls so that next year we have twice the number of visitors."
