Hard on the heels of her great showing at the Metro FM Music Awards (MMAs) where she won the gong for Best Female Album, songbird Kelly Khumalo was recently invited by the legendary Don Laka to work on a song.
There's one for the books! Details are still sketchy regarding the material the pair has worked on but according to the press release seen by Drum, Kelly will be featured on Don Laka's comeback album.
According to the press release, Kelly is ready to continue making music that her fans will love and be an artist who employs true cultural and African identity in her art form and would love this to translate in this collaboration with Don Laka.
"I'm so excited to be working with a musical legend like Don Laka and I'm honoured to have been chosen for this project," Kelly said. "I'm as excited for everyone to hear the final product of our collaboration. Fans are gonna love it!"
Said Don Laka about the collaboration: "I'm celebrating 45 years in the industry and I've asked a few artists to celebrate with me on an album. I bumped into Kelly last year in Namibia and she came up to me and said 'why haven't you called me yet to work on music?'
"Anyway it was great working with Kelly. She's an amazing talent. You'll hear completely different. I've made her scat on the record and you'll love her jazz phrases."
