Cassper Nyovest is confident he will fill 40 000 seats at Orlando Stadium on October 29.
This week, the rapper whose real name is Refiloe Phoolo, told City Press that for him to deliver a three-hour, world-class show, he’ll need at least R25 million.
Last year, he became the first local artist to fill up the 20 000-seat Ticketpro Dome in Joburg.
He spent more than R5 million to stage the show.
But this time around, he’ll have to fill up double the number of seats.
“I’m not worried about a sold-out show because I know it is going to happen. One thing I’m concerned about is getting sponsorship for #FillUpOrlandoStadium,” he told City Press.
He said it had been a problem to get sponsors on board for his show. He only has one for now – and he won’t name it. It’s hard to get sponsorship when you are a black child. Corporate companies don’t give a damn about you,” he said.
He added that he had thought it was going to be easy for him to get stakeholders on board because he had put on a successful show before.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out that way.
Asked whether we should expect any surprises at Orlando Stadium, he said: “I’m trying to bring down overseas media to cover the event.”
Will he bringing an international act in? “Once I reveal that, it won’t be a surprise any more,” he said.
He said he would not mind spending every cent he had on this gig.
“It’s not about money. Many people don’t realise the value in the ‘fill-up’ concept. It motivates young people. When they see a young black musician achieving his dream, they also get inspired.”
He stated that he was not trying to fill up the venue to prove a point to anyone.
“I’m challenging myself to dream big. Most importantly, I want to be an inspiration to the youth.”
He added: “I have a story to tell and I’ve done well for myself. I also want to make a mark – not only in Africa, but in the world.”
Nyovest is currently in studio trying to find a new sound.
“I’m not in a rush to drop it. I’m taking my time because I want to deliver a good product.”
