SA bound Ed Sheeran sued for $100 million

South Africa bound Ed Sheeran is on the receiving end of a monster $100 million lawsuit by a company claiming the singer ripped off a Marvin Gaye classic.

A company called Structured Asset Sales filed the lawsuit, claiming Ed's song, "Thinking Out Loud," is a carbon copy of Gaye's "Let's Get it On."

According to the lawsuit, Sheeran's song has the same melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bassline, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping as "Let's Get it On."

Sheeran's song was a huge hit ... nominated for a Grammy for Best Record, Best Performance and Song of the Year in 2016.

And, according to the docs, Ed's single and the album it's on -- "X" -- sold more than 15 million copies and the song has been played on YouTube more than a billion times.

Sheeran has already been sued by Townsend 's heirs. He called BS on that suit. No word if the Gaye family might also sue.

New mobile operator #Rain could be the future of battle #data prices in SA @RainCoZa

For countless years South Africans have been battling with "Keeping up with the Prices" when it came to data prices.

But June leapt off well with news that a new data only network operator had stepped into the fray.

The new mobile operator backed by prominent businessmen Patrice Motsepe, Paul Harris and Michael Jordaan is taking the fight over data prices to sector giants Vodacom and MTN.

Rain, a data-only network operator that launched mobile services two weeks ago, wanted to win over its rivals' heavy data users with a simpler offering and competitive prices, CEO Willem Roos said.

Amid a decline in traditional voice revenues and public scrutiny over connectivity costs, data is becoming a major battleground for SA's telecommunications companies, and the market is ballooning – Vodacom, MTN,
Cell C and Telkom generated a combined R47bn in data revenues in SA in their financial years ended December and March.

Rain does not offer traditional voice services, but sells data for R50 a gigabyte, while outside of peak evening hours, its customers can use unlimited data for R250 a month, according to Roos, the former CEO of Outsurance.

Unlimited data usage is valid for 19 hours a day, except at peak times – 18:00 to 23:00.

In the two weeks since launching the product, "our business volumes have surprised us slightly on the positive side, particularly since we didn't do any advertising", he said.

The metropolitan-focused operator plans to grow its network from 2,100 cellphone towers to 5,000 within the next three years.

Rain, which also offers fixed wireless services, had mostly resolved "teething problems" related to delayed deliveries of SIM cards, Roos said.

The company, which is more than 40% black-owned, was promoting dual-SIM phones, where customers used Rain for data services and a rival's network to make traditional voice calls.

Roos said some customers were becoming comfortable with the idea of ditching voice-enabled SIM cards altogether and making all their calls on WhatsApp and other internet-based services.

Rain is the cheapest operator in the market for consumers who use less than 20GB of data a month.

Join online

The company stated that customers can join online at rain.co.za, and a Rain SIM will be delivered to their door.
Customers can order up to three SIMs, and give each a
unique name.

"You will be able to experience unlimited data usage on Rain's high-speed 4G network for free, for 15 days after joining.

These free unlimited data days will be a risk-free way for consumers to experience
the network and test their individual coverage needs," said Rain.

"Customers can enjoy additional free unlimited data days when they purchase any of Rain's listed devices."

This includes dual-SIM smartphones and MiFi routers.

Rain deals

Rain's launch deals are shown below.

Rain stated that once a user has reached the end of their free unlimited data days, they'll continue with their plan at 5c per MB – R50 per gig.

The deals include:

Rain SIM (up to 3 SIMs) with 15 days unlimited data – R120

Huawei E5573 with 30 days unlimited data – R840

Huawei E5885 with 45 days unlimited data – R1,540

Huawei Y7 with 60 days unlimited data – R3,000

Huawei P20 Lite with 90 days unlimited data – R4,600

Bon Voyage #Mzansi. The "Johannesburgo" is here! #Iberia

In an event celebrated at O.R. Tambo International Airport, Iberia has presented today its newest A330-200 called "Johannesburgo" to pay tribute to the South African city.

Nearly 70 guests, including the Spanish Ambassador to South Africa, representatives of O.R. Tambo International Airport, the South African department of Tourism, travel agencies, corporate customers and media, attended the event and were able to visit the aircraft.

Celia Muñoz, Iberia's head of Sales in EMEA and Asia, said: "Johannesburg is a long-standing destination linked to Iberia's history and now one of our aircraft carries proudly its name wherever it flies to with the aim to promote the city as a tourist and business destination".

"As Airport Management, we are excited to celebrate together with Iberia Airlines its maiden flight to this airport, in its newest aircraft which is the A330-200, aptly named 'Johannesburgo'," commented Ms Bongiwe Pityi, General Manager, O.R. Tambo International Airport.

"As the largest and busiest airport in Africa, we are very proud that we are one of twelve (12) hand-picked routes globally which will be operated and serviced by this new aircraft. Statistics show that over the past 12 months, from May 2017 to May 2018, Iberia Airlines has seen a 7.69% year-on-year increase in air traffic movements as well as an 8% year-on-year increase in departing passengers.

As part of our ongoing relationship, our ambition is to partner with Iberia Airlines so they continue to achieve consistent and sustainable growth which will stimulate our regional economy leading to job creation."

More efficient aircraft

The aircraft "Johannesburgo", with the registration no. EC-MUD, is the 12th A330-200 received by the Spanish airline and is currently flying to cities in Latin America (Havana, Medellin, Rio de Janeiro or Santo Domingo), the United States (Los Angeles and San Francisco), as well as to Johannesburg and Asia (Shanghai and Tokyo).

The A330-200 is a twin-engine aircraft, more fuel efficient, and of the MTOW 242Tn type, which give it a range of 11,500 km. and a maximum take-off weight of up to 242 tonnes.

Since 2011, Iberia has ordered 56 new aircraft, including eight A330-300, 12 A330-200, 16 A350-900 and 20 A320Neo. The airline has also refurbished its  17 A340-600s with new cabins.

Improved customer experience

The "Johannesburgo" has 19 seats in Business and 269 in Economy class. On board, Iberia customers can enjoy the new long-haul cabins. Seats that unfold into 2m-long beds, all with direct access to the aisle, and a 15.4" touch screen are the main features of the Business class, while Economy seats are 46 cm wide and have individual 9" screens, as well as an adjustable headrest.

Passengers in both Business and Economy cabins can enjoy an extensiveentertainment programme with some 70 new films every month, in different languages, 111 television series and documentaries, nearly 800 audio options, and 18 video games. There is a special entertainment channel for children.   Wi-Fi, offered in both classes, uses the KU band, allowing a greater download speed.

Iberia resumed its operations from Johannesburg in August 2016 with three non-stop flights a week to Madrid. Since then, it has offered nearly 169,000 seats and the number of passengers carried has positively developed. Though most passengers fly point to point between Johannesburg and Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona, Porto, Dusseldorf, London and Cape Town are the main connecting destinations feeding this route.

Top 5 songs on #Billboard this week. #CardiB #Drake

We're soaring with the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles chart, for the week ending June 30, 2018. The musical deck gets shuffled this week with the biggest change happening at the top.

Number 5: Maroon 5 & Cardi B "Girls Like You"

Maroon 5 and Cardi B lose a slot in fifth place with "Girls Like You." The BET Awards were handed out on June 24 in Los Angeles, and Cardi came away with two: Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, and Viewers' Choice. Offset of Migos sparked marriage rumors after calling Cardi his "wife" during a speech. Cardi wasn't present at the ceremony but later confirmed on Twitter that indeed she and Offset were secretly married last year.

Number 4: Drake "God's Plan"
Taking over fourth place is Drake with "God's Plan."  He releases his fifth album "Scorpion" on June 29, and what can we expect? Well, he'll likely address his recent feud with Pusha-T, who released a fiery diss track, "The Story Of Adidon." It's also likely he'll introduce us to his son Adonis, who was the subject of that song. Adonis is being raised in France, by his mother, Sophie Brussaux.

Number 3: Cardi B, Bad Bunny & J Balvin "I Like It"

Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin tread water in third place with "I Like It." J Balvin has overtaken Drake as the most-streamed artist on Spotify. On June 25, the streaming platform announced that the Colombian reggaeton star has racked up more than 48 million monthly listeners. Propelling J Balvin's surge is his new album, "Vibras." Of course, Drake drops his "Scorpion" album on Friday, so the title may again change hands soon.

Number 2: Post Malone Featuring Ty Dolla $ign "Psycho"

Easy come, easy go: last week, Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign jumped atop the Hot 100 with "Psycho." And, this week they return to the runner-up slot with "Psycho." Ty's not stuck in real life, though: early July sees him perform in festivals in Norway, Hungary, Germany, and Switzerland. After that, it's back to North America to hit the road with Lil Uzi Vert and G-Eazy.

Number 1: Drake "Nice For What"

Drake is back at the Hot 100 summit with "Nice For What," which puts him in the record books.  Drake now has 38 career weeks at number one on the Hot 100 — second-most among all solo male artists. He moves ahead of Michael Jackson; only Usher has more, with 47 total weeks at the top.

Manamela calls on youths to consider Technical #Vocational Education and Training #TVET

Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister Buti Manamela on Thursday, encouraged young people to consider Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges as areas of study.

"I know that all of you here want to go to Wits University, [University of Johannesburg] UJ, [University of Cape Town] UCT and the North West University, because our parents always encourage us to go to universities. But we must also go to TVET colleges such as Orbit College because they also give opportunities," he said.

He was speaking to high school learners and post matric youth from Tlapa village near Rustenburg during a career expo.

The expo focused on bringing career guidance information to rural areas. Opportunities presented included apprenticeship, bursaries and artisan-ships.

Manamela said the expo was an opportunity for young unemployed youth and high school learners to get information to make the right future choices.

He said the country was in need of skills that would contribute to the economy, adding that carpenters, welders, electricians and builders play a huge role in the country.

"These careers will also promote self employment of individuals as jobs are scares," he said.

"We can only change our situations if we have civil engineers coming from our villages. They are able to grade roads their people use in those villages. Let us be skilled where we are able to contribute to the economy..."

He said specific areas such as artisans should also be prioritised.

"As the department we are aiming to get 30 000 artisans in a year and we have reached that limit. But we continue encouraging young people to enter that field."

How to #brand your small #business

So you have a business name, a product or service and a website, but have you communicated your business identity? Have you analysed how clients or potential customers perceive your business? What would make your business special or top of mind?

This is where branding comes into play.

Executive business coach and social entrepreneur Refilwe Khumalo says branding your small or medium-sized business is crucial as it helps you to differentiate your company from the competition. "It helps you to build a psychological identity of your company in people's minds, which triggers associations, sets your company apart, tells consumers what they can expect from your company and manages the perception people have of it."

Branding includes the activities and communications, large and small, that create and reinforce what your company is known for, and it's purpose. It's all the elements that make up a visual identity such as the logo, packaging, colours and reputation for customer service.

Khumalo adds that branding is a strategic tactic that contributes to revenue, thereby making it a very critical objective of your business plan that deserves at least 10% of your overall budget as a small or medium-sized business owner.

Implement these cost-effective branding strategies:

1. Clarify what your brand stands for

Think of one thing you want to be known for – this could include the best service delivery, highest quality product/service, fastest delivery or the best price. It's then important to reinforce this in all your company communication channels until you become known and trusted to deliver on it.

2. Audit all your marketing materials Review your website, Facebook page, brochures, advertising and all marketing materials. Assess if you have words in them that clearly convey "that one thing" that you want to be known for? Ensure that your
unique selling proposition (USP) is communicated consistently on all platforms.

3. Define your brand culture

Ask yourself if your business is founded on the purpose of greatness, convenience, love,
cool,  soul or fitness, then turn that into a culture for the people who work for you and
for your clients. Let your brand culture breathe through every interaction, for example, how you answer calls, respond to mails, your
packaging, events and social media. When hiring people to work for you, look for people
who share this culture.

4) eBusiness cards

They're free and this is the best way to share your contact information on the go. eBusiness cards help people to add you to their address book with a click of a button. You can attach yours to your emails, upload it to your website, and send it via WhatsApp. The best part is that you will never run out of business cards or have to worry about printing costs.

More than 30 Mzansi celebs and influencers pledge to give up plastic shopping bags #RethinkTheBag

More than 30 local celebrities and influencers will pledge to give up plastic shopping bags in July, backing the Rethink the Bag campaign's latest initiative.

The Plastic-free July campaign kicked off at the Two Oceans Aquarium on Tuesday evening with big names such as Jack Parow and Roxy Louw in attendance.

"We're spreading the message for people to try and reduce the amount of single-use plastic that they use – and in this case, the shopping bag in particular," Aaniyah Omardien, founder of NPO the Beach Co-op, explained.

"It stays in the system for more than 400 years... and we only use it for 12 to 14 minutes."

According to Omardien, plastic bags are part of the so-called "dirty dozen"  twelve items that are most commonly found on beach clean-ups.

Although the Rethink the Bag campaign has been running since 2011, founder Hayley McLellan likes to think of the new initiative as a relaunch.

SA Developers adult game is rocking the world #GenitalJousting

With over 338,000 copies sold, a genital-duelling game is making millions for its South African developers.

Called Genital Jousting, the game has caught the attention of adults looking for something fun to play at parties. It is the creation of the game developer Free Lives, which operates from a house in Constantia, Cape Town.

Since its launch in January, the game has sold over 338,000 copies, bringing in R20 million. It is available for download on Steam, the world's largest online gaming store, and can be played on your computer – but not Xbox or PlayStation.

The small 16-person studio is also famous for games like Broforce, a 16 bit action game featuring overly masculine men blowing up things, which made them a cool R51 million, as well as Gorn one of the top grossing VR games which allows you to tear you opponent's apart limb for limb in a gladiator arena, from the comfort of your lounge.

According to Genital Jousting's creator, Evan Greenwood, the game is all about disarming masculinity. He says in a patriarchal society, penises are associated with power and considered the dominant sexual organ. But in Genital Jousting, they are often the butt of the joke.

"Now that the game is available to the public, the most rewarding moments are when we see it provoking discussion or critical thinking amongst players."

"We're talking lowest common denominator humour at its finest. Free Lives does not pretend to be above a fart joke."

Up to eight people control detached penises. They can joust, race, walk sausage dogs, play football and even go on dates in this colourful world of genitals.

In single player mode you can explore the trials and tribulations of a penis named John as he looks for love in a world that simply doesn't love him back.

Top 5 songs on #Billboard. #PostMalone #CardiB #Drake #Maroon5

We're shaking hands with the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles chart, for the week ending June 23, 2018.

Two new entries and a new champion: if you're looking for action this week, you came to the right place.

No. 5: Drake "God's Plan"

Drake backs off two slots to No. 5 with his former champ "God's Plan." Sunday, June 17 was Father's Day, and Drake celebrated by buying his Dad a Bentley. TMZ reports that Drake gifted his father, Dennis Graham, with the luxury car, worth an estimated $150,000. Drake will give the rest of us a gift June 29, when he drops his fifth album "Scorpion."   .

No. 4: Maroon 5 & Cardi B "Girls Like You"

The biggest jump on our chart happens in fourth place, where Maroon 5 and Cardi B rise 90 slots with "Girls Like You."  Billboard says it's the fourth-largest one-week leap in Hot 100 history. Kelly Clarkson holds the record: Back in 2009, "My Life Would Suck Without You" shot from 97th to first place. Maroon 5 holds the record for the biggest one-week jump by a group.

No. 3: Cardi B, Bad Bunny & J Balvin "I Like It"

Cardi B, Bad Bunny & J Balvin pump it up four slots to third place with "I Like It." Cardi is likely weeks away from giving birth, and both she and her baby bump adorn the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine. Also in the photo is the father, Offset of Migos. The issue will hit newsstands July 2. Cardi has canceled her summer touring dates, but is still scheduled to join Bruno Mars on tour in September.

No. 2: Drake "Nice For What"

Drake loses his Hot 100 crown in second place with "Nice For What." While he drops his "Scorpion" album June 29, details are still sparse. We don't have a guest list or a track list — although DJ Khaled was photographed holding a jacket bearing the "Scorpion" name. Drake also reportedly plans to address his recent high-profile beef with Pusha-T on the album … and next month, he'll hit the road with Migos in North America.

No. 1: Post Malone Featuring Ty Dolla $ign "Psycho"

Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign jump that all-important final slot, as "Psycho" takes the Hot 100 crown. It is Post's second career countdown win, after "Rockstar." This week, Kacey Musgraves went on Twitter to request a collaboration with Post … they both grew up in Texas. That's it for this week … join us for a new lineup in seven days.

DJ Sbu urges South Africans to become #entrepreneurs #MoFaya

South Africans need to adopt a culture of entrepreneurship, says businessman Sbu Leope.

The DJ turned businessman says for most people in the entertainment industry, breaking into the business industry is a logical step towards investing money accumulated through fame.

Leope was on POWER Perspective with JJ Tabane to talk about his journey from the entertainment world into the business world.   Leope says that South Africa's poor entrepreneurship landscape is a result of a failure to establish a culture of entrepreneurs after the dawn of democracy in 1994.

He argues that in many other African countries such as Kenya and Nigeria,  entrepreneurship is a culture.

"The spirit of entrepreneurship has pretty much become second hand to our brothers and sisters in Nigeria.

"That's why you see Nigerians in China [and] they speak Mandarin, they hook you up where ever you want to go.  They are the plug," says Leope.

He wishes South Africa can adopt a culture of entrepreneurs moving forward.

"That's a culture, and I think that a culture we need to adopt here at home," adds Leope.

Practical ways to teach your kids how to manage money

In the digital age, parents cannot afford to neglect the crucial responsibility of teaching their kids about managing money.

Ester Ochse, FNB Wealth and Investments Product Specialist says whether it's a billboard on the way to school, lifestyle images in a magazine or social media images of their favourite celebrity or idol – children can access information which may give them a misguided view of how money is 'easily' earned and how it should be used.

"Once a child has pre-conceived ideas of how money management supposedly works, it may be difficult for parents to entrench their preferred principles. Hence, it's important to start the money conversation very early in a child's life," says Ochse.

There are practical ways to help your children get to grips with managing money:

Household budget – whether it's weekly or monthly, all families that earn income must ensure that every rand is dedicated accordingly. Get your children involved in this process and give them adequate responsibilities to make every rand go a long way.

Chores – start introducing educational exercises to help your kids appreciate that 'money doesn't grow on trees.' This could be small tasks where they get incentivised upon completion.

School trips – Schools often plan trips or learning excursions to places such as the local zoo or museum. While it's the responsibility of the parents to plan for this financially, there's no harm in allowing your kids to help in managing the savings kitty for this.

Family vacations – not every family may have the resources to go on a vacation now and then but where possible, parents can task their kids to manage holiday savings, especially if it's a destination that kids are looking forward to visiting.

"Teaching kids about managing money needs to be a practical exercise instead of a conversation once in a while. This way, the awareness becomes a part of the child's life and they start adopting the same principles in other areas of their lives," concludes Ochse.

5 ways #Google translate can save you from getting lost at the #worldcup

If you're learning a new language, travelling in a foreign county, or simply needing to translate an unfamiliar language email or website into your own, the Google Translate app for your Android smartphone has you covered.

Google's powerful translation service is deeply embedded into the Android operating system and can instantly translate words, phrases and web pages between dozens of languages.

Here are some tips from Alcatel to help you make the most of Google Translate on an Android smartphone:

1.       Point your camera at foreign language text to get a translation

If you need a translation of a sign or menu in a foreign city, you can use your phone's camera and the Translate app to translate the text with a live overlay on your display. You can also translate text in photos you've already taken.

2.       Tap to Translate

This feature is handy if you get a lot of messages or emails in another language. Enable it in the Translate settings and you will get a translation bubble whenever you highlight text. No more switching between Google Translate and other apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger to figure what that message in Spanish means!

3.       Translate spoken words and phrases

Google Translate can translate spoken conversations on the fly, with support for more than 30 languages. Each party simply needs to speak into the phone for instant translations—very handy if you need directions when travelling or when you just want to order the right dish from a waiter who doesn't speak your language.

4.       Use offline translation

Mobile connectivity can be expensive and patchy when you're travelling in a different country. You can download a language to your smartphone with Google Translate, so that you have access to translations even when you don't have access to a reliable internet connection. Offline downloads don't support speech input, but typing and camera scanning both work normally.

5.       Save translations in a phrasebook

You can keep translations you've used in the past in a phrasebook. You can see the translations in your phrasebook even if you aren't connected to the internet.

#CapeTown marathon will unravel the beauty of the mother city

The Cape Town Marathon will take in much of scenery of the Cape Town and surrounds on September 23.

The 42.2km Cape Town Marathon, once again has IAAF Gold Label status.

The race begins at one of Cape Town's biggest tourist attractions, the V&A Waterfront. A flat, fast start along the Atlantic Seaboard, the route follows the seafronts of Mouille Point and Sea Point.

It then takes a turn against the backdrop of Signal Hill, before heading into Cape Town's city centre, weaving through modern skyscrapers and historical buildings.

The race then heads out towards the suburbs of Woodstock, Observatory and Mowbray, and through the streets of Rondebosch and Newlands.

This section of the route passes Groote Schuur Hospital, the University of Cape Town, the President's Cape Town residence and Newlands Cricket Ground, and several historic schools.

Turning back alongside the Liesbeek River towards the now-awakening city, the marathon enters the suburb of Woodstock.

A long stretch through this area enables runners and supporters to take in panoramic views of Table Mountain.

After moving through Woodstock, the race re-enters the city, heading onto Strand Street before taking a right onto Bree Street and heading up over a purpose-built ramp bridge in De Waterkant. This links directly into the world-famous World Cup 2010 fan walk.

The marathon ends at Vlei Road just outside the stadium.

#Samsung Galaxy S9 Launches in ‘Sunrise Gold’

While it didn't change much from its predecessor, one of the best Android phones to hit the market this year has been the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. Now, Samsung is launching its flagship devices in a new colorway.
The Galaxy S9 and S9+ come in quite a few colors worldwide. Those include the standard black, grey, and blue options, but also the unique Lilac Purple and gorgeous Burgundy Red. When that red color first launched, Samsung formally announced it alongside Sunrise Gold. Now, that option is finally on sale.
As you'd expect, the Sunrise Gold Galaxy S9 and S9+ doesn't change much as far as the design is concerned. You still get the same metal and glass build and black bezels around the display, but this time the frame and back panel adopt this new golden hue.
This new variant is already on sale in select regions including Australia, Germany, Spain, UAE, and others, but now the device is making its way to the US as well.

How to invest in #shares

We often leave the thought of investing for another day or another year. People assume that investing in shares is for the wealthy or you need to have experience to invest in the stock market.

Just like savings, it's a good idea to start investing in shares at any age. "The best way to understand the stock market is to manage your own portfolio. This initial step will help you in understanding the process and how the shares market works," says Aneesa Razack, CEO of Share Investing at FNB Wealth and Investments.

"This money can then be used for your long-term goals like your retirement or for your child's education."

It's important to note that you will not be risk-averse with this type of investing. If you have no risk tolerance then stocks might not be for you. The stock market demands patience, if you are going to pull out during every 'bear' (negative) period then you'll never be invested for the 'bull' (positive) times. "As an alternative to individual shares, consider unit trusts or exchange traded funds (ETFs). These collective investments cushion the risk somewhat while still allowing you to grow your money," explains Razack.

Getting started is always difficult, but Razack suggests the following simple tips that will help you get started:

1) Start investing now, don't wait. The sooner you start to invest, the better. Time is an investor's best friend, because it gives compounding interest and returns a chance to work for you. The earlier you start the less you should invest to reach your goal.

2) Do some research. Before you buy a share, find out everything you can about the company, its management and competitors, its earnings and growth potential.

3) Invest regularly. Investing is not a once-off exercise; it is something that you must continue doing throughout your life to be able to get good returns on your investment

4) Start with the Top 40. When you start investing in shares, it is advisable to first focus on buying shares that form part of the JSE Top 40. These shares are generally less risky over the long term and can provide good returns if you buy and hold.

5) Diversify your share portfolio. Spread your investment across different companies and over different sectors. The biggest risk in investing is putting all your eggs in one basket. With FNB Share Investing you can invest in both shares or directly in gold with Krugerrands and build a diverse portfolio for yourself.

6) Be patient.  Don't expect to be right all the time. Investing for the long term will let you ride out the unavoidable ups and downs of the market.

"Investing in shares can help you reach your financial goals faster and ultimately benefit you in the future. Ensure that you are aware of your environment and the risks associated before taking the step to invest in shares," concludes Razack.

DJ Zinhle speaks on life after #AKA

DJ Zinhle has gone through a lot of hardships and shrugged off many labels‚ including constantly being told while growing up that she was lazy‚ leaving her feeling like she would "not amount to anything in life".

The Colours hit-maker‚ who recently released a motivational book hoping to inspire women to unlock their true potential‚ revealed her own battles growing up in an interview with Azania Mosaka on Real Talk this week.

"I totally believed that I was not going to be anything amazing because I was told so many times that I was lazy. Being a younger sister, I grew up believing that I wouldn't amount to anything.

"I was told that 'nobody is going to marry you' and these were things that I worried about so much as a child‚ like 'who is going to love me? How am I going to get a job? What am I going to do when I grow up?'"

She said she learnt to relax and not put so much pressure on herself and also preached the gospel of being grateful for what you have and not be miserable about what you do not. DJ Zinhle recounted a lesson her daughter Kairo taught her when she was devastated by AKA leaving after Kairo's birth.

"When Kairo was young‚ she must have been two months old‚ I was going to take a bath and I saw her face. I was going through emotions and was in pain‚ and I looked at Kairo and said; 'Kairo‚ daddy is gone' and I was crying.

"Kairo looked at me‚ as if to say; 'look around you‚ mommy. Look at everything else. Pain has a way of blinding us to everything else that is amazing."

The star revealed earlier this year that she felt overwhelmed when completing her house‚ which had been under construction for some time.

"I made it work but I have been feeling a little overwhelmed lately. It is a bit too much especially with the house project‚ I thought I was going to die at one point‚" she told WTF Tumi's Tumi Morake.

She said she had learnt to cope with all the endless demands by taking it one moment at a time and leaning on the support of others.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE around the same time‚ Zinhle said she often felt exposed when helping women with social issues.

"My reality show was one of the toughest things that I have had to do. It was emotionally draining to the point that I often went home to go sleep because it was too much. It was tough to hear their stories and it hit me hard."

AKA on the other hand said his romance with his ex, Bonang had taken a toll on DJ Zinhle and his relationship with his mom.

"Now that I'm out of the relationship‚ I can now big her (DJ Zinhle) up for being a great mom and an amazing woman. My mom‚ our relationship was obviously strained for obvious reasons," said AKA.

He said he played a big part in the guilt and destruction that came with the "saga" that saw him leave his baby mama for a new relationship.

"I just want people to understand that I fully know what I was putting on the line and maybe now, I understand what I kind of didn't appreciate when I had it." –

Facts about #WorldRefugeeDay

Who is a refugee?

The United Nations defines refugees as people fleeing conflict or persecution. They are granted refugee status by the country they enter, which grants them protection under international law and makes them eligible for aid.

People who are displaced from their homes but remain in their country are not considered refugees. How many refugees are there worldwide?

As of mid-2017, 65.6 million people have been displaced. Of that number, 22.5 million fled to other countries. More than half of them are under 18 years old, the highest number of child refugees since World War II.

In 2016, 75,000 children applied for asylum as "unaccompanied minors." Most were from Afghanistan and Syria. As of March 22, 2018, the U.N. Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has registered 5.6 million refugees.

UNHCR estimates nearly one in 100 people worldwide have been pushed out of their countries due to war or political instability.

Where are they from?

Syria, which has been ravaged by conflict for seven years, has created the highest number of refugees. An estimated 660,000 Syrians fled the country in 2017, bringing the total number of Syrian refugees to 5.6 million.
Most have settled in neighboring countries. An additional 6.6 million have been displaced within Syria. The conflict in Afghanistan has resulted in 2.5 million refugees.

The young country of South Sudan accounted for 1.4 million refugees. Religious and ethnic conflict has sent 1.1 million fleeing from Myanmar.

As of April 2017, more than 876,000 people have fled Somalia.

Where are they going?

Turkey remains the largest host of refugees globally, with nearly 3 million refugees reported living inside its borders at the end of 2016. Pakistan is second with 1.6 million.

Lebanon is third with 1 million. Rounding out the top 10 are Iran with 978, 000; Ethiopia with nearly 740,000; Jordan with 700,000; Kenya with 523,000; Uganda with 512,000; Germany with 470,000; and Chad with 380,000.

What is World Refugee Day?

World Refugee Day highlights the plight of people who have escaped conflict and are rebuilding their lives. It is observed on June 20 by communities and civic groups around the world to raise public awareness to the millions of refugees and internally displaced persons.

World Refugee Day is a midpoint of UNHCR's #WithRefugees World Tour, which runs from April to October. The tour consists of dozens of public events, starting with Sports Day at Jordan's Za'atari refugee camp. Among the events on the tour will be a fashion show in Chicago, featuring fabrics made by refugees in Kenya; a refugee football match in Ireland; a photo exhibit in Paris; and judo competitions in South Africa.

Gugu Nonjinge Foundation: Helping young #Mzansi women seize opportunities

Afrobrarometer Communications Coordinator
and NDP 2030 youth ambassador Gugu Nonjinge explains the significance of her foundation's sterling work.

Mentorship assures young people that they're not alone in dealing with life's challenges and that someone cares about them. It has powerful positive effects on youth and connects them to personal growth and development, as well as social and economic opportunities.

I was fortunate enough to be mentored by powerful women, including my late mother and Charmaine Houvet, Director of Government Affairs at Cisco, who guided me on which career to pursue and steps to take to where I am today.

I've always believed I can make a difference to the youth in this country and that belief led me to start my NPO, which advocates for constitutional rights to life, dignity, equality, freedom and safety for young South Africans.

The role of the Gugu Nonjinge Foundation is that of a catalyst for girls and young women to seize opportunities that enable them to realise their true potential. Our main project is the numbers tutorial programme, a professionally run weekly maths and science educational intervention for 40 girls in Grades 11 and 12 from Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Beyond the maths lessons, we offer them career advice with a specific focus on the science, technology, engineering and maths fields.

I love what I do and I'm always looking for opportunities to impact young people's lives through mentorship. Apart from running the foundation, I co-founded LeBrunchSA with Mlibo Bashe. We host social events like brunches, high teas and luncheons as platforms for young women from diverse backgrounds to connect and network.

I've learnt that in order to be an advocate for social change, you need to be resilient and remain purposeful, especially when faced with challenges. Fortunately, I work in an organisation that enables me to bring a little of my personal work into the office. While I'm aware of the vast need for mentorship programmes, I go to bed with the best feeling ever: knowing that I've done my best to improve someone's life.

Zodwa Wabantu finally opens up about her "career" breakthrough, life and crazy entertainment antics

SA entertainer, Zodwa Wabantu says people should now call her Zodwa Wabantwana as she has realised that most of her followers are young children who look up to her.

Speaking on Real Talk last week, the dancer who is famous for dancing without underwear stunned many when she said she was probably dating her father as she has never met him.

"I've never met my dad and I don't know if he's alive or not. Maybe he's one of the men I'm dating," she said as she laughed.

She said her mother died when she was young and as such, she moved out of their family house when she was 16 years old.

"After my mother died, I decided to move out and fend for myself as I couldn't stand the pressure from my siblings (fighting for food, the house and everything else).

"I went and lived with a friend and started looking for jobs. I must say I've been doing well since then because to me, as long as I can afford bread and eggs, I'm good," she said.

The entertainer who is famed for her Vosho dance had a talent identified on social media after videos of her dancing at Eyadini in Durban went viral. Since then, she started getting bookings from various spots as people wanted to see her performing. Artistes also started contracting her to feature on their music videos. She said she was initially satisfied with a payment of R2 000 that she was getting from artistes per feature until DJ Tira approached her and told her she was worth more.

He sat her down and told her she was worth at least R35 000.

"UDJ Tira wangibiza wathi Zodwa, you're worth more than R35 000," she said.

"And oh yes, I'm living my dream now. I'm now a woman worth R35 000.  Recently I was in the United Kingdom, United States of America and Australia which is a sign of success."

Now, when she has no bookings, she does not compromise and prefers to stay indoors as she does not want to lower her new standards.

"When I have nothing to do, I sleep in my home because this R35 000 worth face can't be seen randomly, all thanks to Tira."

Asked if she was planning to settle down, the mother of one son – Vuyo said: "I've no plans of getting married because I don't want to be having to sleep on Johnnie Walker and Grandpa because of men stress. Yes I have a boyfriend and we're cool as we are."

She insisted that she would not wear makeup because she got famous as a natural lady.

"I don't like make up because I got famous while I was very natural, so why should I change now? Most artists and my competitors out there don't understand why I refuse to wear make-up but it's because I prefer myself natural."

These days, Zodwa is captured removing her underwear on stage. Asked if she has regrets doing so, she responded: "When I take off my pants on stage, I don't regret anything because I'll be doing as per the fans' wishes.

"When they scream that I strip, I do exactly that with no regret, that's entertainment. As long it's not 'ubufebe' then I'm not worried or remorseful."

Looking into the future, the entertainer said she hopes to resign from the entertainment industry which she accidentally found herself in, next year.

"I intend to resign and sit home next year as I've stated earlier. That hasn't changed. I think I'm almost satisfied with what I have right now. So I'll be fine if I retire next year as I'm sure I'll still afford to put bread and eggs on my table."

#Oprah will produce content for #Apple in multi million dollar deal

Apple is teaming up with the queen of TV, Oprah Winfrey, to create content to rival the likes of Netflix, Amazon and HBO.

The tech giant's partnership with Winfrey is perhaps its biggest indication yet that it plans on becoming a major player in the game, with Apple already committing an initial $1 billion (R13,4 billion) to create content.

"Together, Winfrey and Apple will create original programmes that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world," Apple said in a statement.

The deal is a coup for the company, which is hoping to tap into Winfrey's strong global following, as well as her talent for creating compelling content. It's an even bigger win for Winfrey, who already owns cable network OWN and has a lucrative deal with Discovery Communications.

Late last year, she picked up a cool $70 million (R946 million) for the sale of her majority stake in the network to Discovery and it signalled the first time Winfrey had made a profit off the venture since its launch in 2011.

"She is just looking to increase her exposure in legitimate on-brand ways and getting herself on different platforms will certainly help her do that," Chad Kawalec, founder of The Brand Identity Center, was quoted saying in a Fortune report.

"OWN has not really knocked it out of the park and she's a smart woman. She knows that when she exposes her name, it extends her personal brand."

It remains unclear exactly how Apple plans on distributing the content its famous brand partner will produce, but if industry whisperings are anything to go by, Apple could be planning on offering a dedicated subscription-based service at a monthly subscription cost lower than that of Netflix.

Late last year, Apple also announced the signing of a two-season original TV series deal featuring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and NBA star Kevin Durant.

The war for TV talent among online platforms has been heating up over the past couple years with the entry of Amazon and Time Warner's HBO.

Netflix, the first to create original online TV series, has committed to spending $8 billion (R108 billion) on programming this year – the most anticipated content has to be from the deal struck with former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle to produce films, documentaries and other content for the service.

It even got the formidable TV writer and producer Shonda Rhimes to leave cable network ABC and join the company in a multi-year deal.

Similarly, Amazon has announced it had secured the TV rights to Lord of the Ringsto turn the franchise into a multi-season series. It will also be working with Hollywood A-lister Nicole Kidman's production company to produce movies and TV shows.

Digital banking is the new voooom!

Digital Banking has not only opened access to a wider array of banking products for customers across different demographics, it also gives them full control of their banking.

Khathu Ramoliko, Head of Gold at FNB, says "Over the last 12 months, we have noted that 83% of our Gold accountholders are actively using digital banking, and App uptake in this group has increased by 6%. This is primarily because digital banking platforms have evolved, they offer customer various functionalities which incorporate lifestyle value-add services, and this has rendered them a lot more robust and multi-functional in meeting more customer needs than before."

"An example of this would be the ability to make pre-paid purchases such as airtime, data and electricity. These types of services expand the digital banking platform beyond just the basic banking functionalities."

Lynnette Kloppers, CEO of FNB Premier, says "similarly, Premier banking customers have a healthy appetite for transacting digitally, and this is primarily because of the useful innovations we have consistently introduced across our digital platforms. This year alone, on average App uptake among Premier accountholders surged to 68%, while App usage is at a steady 54% and online usage has ticked up to 34%."

According to FNB, when used wisely, digital banking can help customers save on banking related costs because it gives the them options and it's an interface through which consumers can manage and track their finances from anywhere and at any time.

Additionally, consumers that hold an account with the bank have the option to receive statements electronically instead of via post while card activations, cancellations and renewals can also be done digitally without having to visit a branch. In terms of fraud prevention, the bank's App has multiple security layers such as the Smart In contact which is an App based transaction approval tool to mitigate the risk of fraud.

"Money management is another component that has since been streamlined into the bank's digital platforms with pre-approved offers and nav>>MONEY, the money management tool. These types of capabilities are useful for customers because they can immediately see if their financial position," concludes Ramoliko.

Ochse suggests the following saving steps that will help you start your savings journey.

Savings Plan: This initial step is the most important step in the process. You need to plan, understand and choose what you want to save for. Be it for a gift, a new pair of sunglasses or long-term goals like education, retirement; your savings plan will be your blueprint to starting your savings journey.

Budget: There's nothing worse than not having spare cash on hand, especially in an emergency. Ensure that you have an up-to date budget that details your daily and ongoing expenses clearly. This budget should be updated monthly.

Goals: Ensure that your short and long-term goals are clearly defined. This helps you identify your priorities and distinguish between needs, wants and responsibilities.

Research and execution: So, you've planned and budgeted, now you need to decide where you would like to put the money. When making your decision, look at the interest rate offered and for long-term goal, partner with a trusted money manager to help you receive good returns.

Review: Monitor and ensure that you stick to your savings goals. This is an important step as we often tend to ignore our goals, and spending more than we should.

Help save a life and keep a family together. #WorldBloodDonorDay #MissingType #SANBS

Have you had a family member or close friend who suffered from a life-threatening condition and felt powerless to help them? Then you can identify with the plight of thousands of South African families whose ill relatives depend on blood transfusions. Your blood donation could literally mean the difference between life and death for a person with a life-threatening condition or an accident survivor.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) in encouraging South Africans to become regular blood donors on World Blood Donor Day on Thursday, 14 June.

World Blood Donor Day highlights the need to maintain a stable supply of healthy, safe blood and blood products while encouraging people to become regular donors. It's also an opportunity to thank the volunteers whose donations of blood save and enhance the lives of people.

Jacob Mohapi has received blood on two occasions due to horrific car accidents. Thanks to South Africa's dedicated pool of blood donors, Jacob was able to get the blood he needed to survive. "It really is an awesome thing to do," he says of the donation which has enabled him to keep providing for his son Thabang.

Jacob has added his voice to that of thousands of South Africans with life-threatening conditions in calling for eligible members of the public to become regular blood donors. As Jacob's case illustrates, blood donations go way beyond just the person who receives the blood. It's not just blood: it's keeping families together.

"The best gift you can give anyone is the gift of life. We know that South Africans have huge hearts and we call on them to fully embrace the spirit of this year's World Blood Donor Day theme: 'Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life'," says Silungile Mlambo, the SANBS's chief marketing officer.

The theme emphasises "blood donation as an act of solidarity" with our fellow human beings, highlighting the fundamental values of empathy and kindness that underpin the selfless act of blood donation, according to the World Health Organisation.

"Out of South Africa's population of 56-million people, only about 1% donate blood regularly. This blood is used by every person living in this country who needs a transfusion during an operation or after being involved in an accident," Mlambo says.

Despite the steady pool of regular donors, more volunteers are needed to ensure that the SANBS' target of 3 300 units per day is maintained. "In particular, this Youth Month we are appealing to young, healthy South Africans to make donating blood a lifestyle choice," adds Mlambo.

This year World Blood Donor Day coincides with the #MissingType campaign, which runs from 11 to 18 June 2018. The SANBS is asking organisations to remove the letters A, B and O (symbolising the "missing" blood types with the same letters) from their logos for a week to raise awareness of the need for new blood donors. All South Africans can join in by temporarily deleting the As, Bs and Os from their social media handles.

Where does the donated blood go?

There is a common misperception that most of the blood donated in South Africa goes to accident victims. This is not the case. Here is a rough breakdown from the SANBS of where the blood it collects is used:

* 28% is used to treat cancer and aplastic anaemia

* 27% is used during childbirth

* 21% is used for scheduled surgery

* 10% is used for paediatric care

* 6% goes to laboratories

* 6% is used for orthopaedic care

* 4% is used for accident or trauma victims
