South Africa has signed several agreements with China following a bilateral meeting between Presidents' Cyril Ramaphosa and Xi Jinping on Tuesday.

These include the simplification of visa requirements for certain categories of visitors.

There's also an agreement in trade and industry and agriculture and fisheries.

The Chinese President arrived in the country on Monday, ahead of the Brics summit which gets underway on Wednesday at the Sandton Convention centre.

President Ramaphosa described the talks with his Chinese counterpart as successful and wide-ranging.

"We've signed several agreements and memorandums of understanding that intended to further deepen our relations including investment that has been struck to the value of 14.7 billion dollars.

"President Xi has indicated that China is ready to invest and work with South Africa in various sectors such as infrastructure, ocean economy, green economy, science and technology, agriculture and environment, as well as finance," Ramaphosa said.
