Dont be surprised at the #Olympics, Tatjana Schoenmaker is now known as Tatjana Smith #RHOD

Tatjana Schoenmaker, now known as Tatjana Smith following her recent marriage, showcased her exceptional speed and skill by claiming victory in the 50m breaststroke event at the national championships in Gqeberha.

The Olympic 200m breaststroke champion delivered an impressive performance, clocking 30.09 seconds in the morning heats and repeating the identical time in the final, outpacing African record-holder Lara van Niekerk.

While the 50m breaststroke is not an Olympic event, Smith views it as a valuable indicator of her form and potential for upcoming races.

Expressing her excitement for her performance, she shared, "It's exciting to finally come closer to that 30-second limit. I hope one day to drop under that 30."

Smith attributed her improved speed to her training focus and expressed surprise at her rapid progress.

Embracing her new surname as a symbol of personal growth and identity, Smith explained, "Swimming is what I do, it's not who I am. I didn't want my identity to lie in swimming."

By adopting her new surname, Smith aims to emphasize her evolving self and highlight that her identity extends beyond her accomplishments in the pool.
