As with the launch, the party was held at the Hilton Hotel in Durban with the theme "What's Next is All That Matters".
The event also marked the beginning of submissions for nominees for the 2017 ceremony that will take place on Saturday 25 February at Durban ICC.
The event was packed with music industry insiders, including house titan Lulo Cafe. Also spotted at the event were Metro FM's Amon Mokoena and Adil More, Rhythmic Elements' Mpho "Mckenzie" Matome, Metro FM's Criselda Dudumashe and Durban socialite and fitness fanatic Sbahle Mpisane.
"It was a great lunch an I'm looking forward to the awards," said Lulo Cafe. "With new categories [The Pan-African category] introduced, it augurs well for the artists and the music industry at large. It's also great for the awards."
"I'll be releasing my new album, XXXV, in December. I've worked with KB [Motsilanyane] amongst other hotshots. I'm also launching my summer clothing ranger , Lulo Urban Culture (LUC)."
Meanwhile, Metro FM's station manager, Sibongile Mtyali, was excited about the station and its partners' commitment to making the awards bigger and better.
"We have to grow the event and the artists involved with it," she said. "We had a successful event with the last Metro FM Music Awards and taking a tip from our theme, the question is not about repetition but what natters is what is next, and what the next Metro FM Music Awards will have in store."
