Nedbank Cup Final: Its Ajax vs Sundowns

So we all know that the UEFA Champions League semi finals will pit four European heavyweights in the mould of my personal favourites Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus.

Back home things are looking interesting. Hey, Kaizer Chiefs once again ruled the roost by clinching the Absa Premier League title.

And as if thats not enough to cap off a fine football weekend, two thrilling Nedbank Cup semi finals also lived up to expectations. Drama on Saturday and sheer sweat on Sunday.

That said, Its all down to the last two in the Nedbank Cup after Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns booked their tickets to the final this past weekend.

On Saturday evening, SuperSport United were left wondering what hit them when a spirited Ajax outfit showed their class by coming from behind to claim victory in the final stages of the match.

Thuso Phala gave Matsatsantsa the lead just before half-time, but the Urban Warriors would leave it late to stage a comeback as Mosa Lebusa and Tashreeq Morris struck in the final five minutes to clinch victory.

Mamelodi Sundowns were made to work for their place in the final during their 1-0 win over Vasco de Gama at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

A Mzikayise Mashaba long-range thunderbolt was the difference between the sides in the end but, in truth, Vasco were the much better side over the 90 minutes.

The National First Division outfit gave their much-favoured Premiership opponents a good run for their money but were ultimately unable to make their dominance pay before Sundowns snuck the winner in the 60th minute.
