Daily Thetha host Kini Shandu has launched Sebenza Women Awards to celebrate women's success in KZN.
The honours recognise excellence in business, construction, the arts, sport, media and entrepreneurship. They are scheduled to take place on August 9.
Gqom queen Babes Wodumo is nominated in the Women in Arts category, up against personalities like Samkelisiwe Mkhize, Xoli Vilakazi, Stacey Norman and Ndu Shezi.
Babes's manager Nondumiso Simelane said her sister was honoured to be nominated in the awards that celebrate women's achievement.
"It is encouraging to have someone who has decided to recognise women's talent. Babes is excited about the nomination. What is so unique about the awards is that they feature women of different ages."
Shandu, whose show is on SABC1, said he was happy with how the awards have been received by the public and various stakeholders since the launch.
"The reception has been great. From the submissions we received from the public for nominations to the support that our partners have given us, it all gives us confidence that we will have a successful awards show."
Winners in all the categories will be voted for by the public. –
