#Truworths to launch new format stores in South Africa

Truworths is planning to revamp stores in South Africa and the UK in an effort to capture market share and drive sales in those markets.

The retailer said it would launch the new format stores in March and June in the UK and in April in South Africa. The latter accounts for 70% of the retailer's sales, CEO Michael Mark said

DJ Sbu takes charge as he takes #MoFaya energy drink outside the borders

DJ Sbu is on a roll as an entrepreneur and there is just no stopping him.

The Massiv Metro owner and breakfast drive host is on a relentless mission to make the energy drink, MoFaya the number energy drink of African descent across the continent and eventually, the world.

Mzansi's favourite hustler, businessman and media personality, DJ Sbu is making major strides with his energy drink.

We have seen Sbu take his drink to all of his major international engagements in countries such as the USA to make sure that they also hear about it.

His aggressive marketing strategy in Mzansi has seen the drink's brand grow in leaps and bounds to such an extent that it is now available nationwide through PicknPay supermarkets and even Engen garages.

But he hasn't abandoned his original marketing strategy as he continues to use young entrepreneurs to market and sell the drink in the streets while simultaneously giving them real-world experience in marketing a product.

"Big shout out to all #MoFaya hustlers nationwide doing their thing every day feeding their families pushing the Hustlers Drink. Let's make this money guy," he said recently.

Sbu, whose real name is Sibusiso Leope, is now taking the brand to the East African region in a bid to fast track his continental takeover.

He has now partnered with Tanzanian singer-songwriter, Ali Kiba distributes the energy drink in the region.

#Huawei folding phone can do 5G as folding phones become the new trend

Huawei Technologies unveiled a folding smartphone on Sunday which it said was primed for next generation 5G mobile connections, even as the United States campaigns to bar the Chinese company from such networks over security concerns.

Huawei, the world's third-largest smartphone vendor after Samsung and Apple, said it had taken the lead on developing phones for 5G — which promise super fast Internet speeds for consumers and businesses — because it was also involved in developing the networks.

Richard Yu, head of Huawei's consumer business group, said the Huawei Mate X will have two back-toback screens which unfold to become a eight-inch tablet display.

Saving tips for women in their 20s #GirlTalkZA

With women expected to live ten times longer than men, it's crucial for them to begin saving as early as possible to make the most compound interest, says Citadel Advisory partner, Anelisa Mti.

She offers five tips for young women to maximise their savings over their lifetime.

BUDGET, BUDGET, BUDGET

Your first and most important financial step is to create a detailed budget that will help you to understand how much you are spending, and where you can begin saving, says Mti.

Begin by noting your actual salary after tax, and then create a detailed list of your expenses, including rent, utilities, groceries, cellphone bill and travel expenses.

Even better, jot down an estimate the first time, which you review at monthend based on what you actually spent.

BUILD UP EMERGENCY RESERVES

Next, continue your savings journey by putting some money aside in a separate savings or call account for rainy days.

Aim to put away at least three to six months' income in an emergency fund that you can easily access without having to pay on credit when faced with big expenses such as a sick pet, burst tyres or new smartphone.

This will help you to save money on interest repayments should the unexpected happen.

AVOID THE TEMPTATION TO SPLURGE ON A FANCY CAR

Many want to treat themselves when they start earning, but avoid the temptation, says Mti.

Don't overspend or take on excessive debt — especially on an asset that will lose its value over time.

If you minimise your car repayments, you can rather make a larger deposit on a meaningful asset like a home later, or save for your long-term wealth.

PAY DEBTS ASAP

Excessive debt will stop you reaching your savings potential, and if the interest charged on your debt is higher than you would be earning on an investment, you'll be saving more by paying your debt back faster. Prioritise the debts that are most expensive, such as store cards or credit cards, first.

PUT YOUR MONEY TO WORK

Reach financial goals by investing, says Mti. "Many women in their 20s prefer a more discretionary investment vehicle such as a tax-free savings account or unit trust for medium- to long-term goals such as a deposit on a home or child's education," she explains.

"Meanwhile, contributions towards retirement savings vehicles such as retirement annuities offer the benefit of being tax deductible, lessening the amount of tax paid on your income." But, she warns, you'll face a heavy tax penalty if you withdraw these savings early.

Also choose underlying assets carefully, i.e. how much to invest in equities, property, bonds or cash-related instruments, depending on your appetite for risk. Consult a qualified financial adviser, she suggests. — Fin24.

Want a trendy #iPhone cover? Look no further than #MaXhosa!

Laduma Ngxokolo, who established the iconic and internationally-acclaimed knitwear brand, MaXhosa by Laduma, has always had ambitions beyond jerseys.

In recent months, he has launched rugs, a pop-up store collaboration with Magnum, a clothing collaboration with award-winning hiphop artist Ricky Rick and the local luxury bag brand Okapi.

Now he's introduced iPhone covers, which reflect his fascination with Xhosa culture, in a collaboration with beadwork designer, Vukile Batyi. MaXhosa said they had been experimenting with covers "to elevate culture into modern times by combining the old and new."

The covers don't come cheap though, retailing for R2 200 each, but Ngxokolo reckons it's a proper reflection of the "exceptional craftmanship" involved and the durability of the product. "We aim to make a complementary product to the phone, not a case that can be easily discarded," he added.

The iPhone cases are made from walnut wood and soft thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) material that makes the edging resistant to oil, grease and abrasion.

The beads are sourced from Durban and then beaded at the MaXhosa factory where the cases are also assembled.

*Dichabeng* No its not the #Amstel advert... That long awaited #Malaika reunion is on as group reunites for live show

The Malaika reunion that we have been waiting a decade for is finally happening. Following a very nasty public break-up, Sowetan can confirm that the '90s music group that brought us charttopping hits such as Destiny and Sebakanyana have kissed and made up.

Malaika will reunite on stage on March 8 headlining the Waar was Jy, Remember the Time concert at Time Square's Sun Arena in Pretoria.

Speaking to Sowetan yesterday, the two remaining members of the band Bongani Nchang and Tshedi Mholo said they could not wait to rock the stage once again. The other member, Jabu Ndaba, is deceased.

"It's a new year and we are just looking forward to touching base yet again. This is a rebirth in a way," Mholo said. "We have grown up so much. Yes, sometimes you fight, then you reconnect, forgive one another and continue with the legacy. We have decided to let bygones be bygones.

"This is business and we have grown up. Let's give the people what they want. So many things were said, but it's OK, we are back."

In one of their public feuds, Mholo detailed to Sowetan's sister publication Sunday World how she felt betrayed after Nchang "left me at his grandfather's funeral and went to perform in Rustenburg [under Malaika] without my knowledge".

This will be their second and biggest performance since their reconciliation late last year. They first performed together in December in Itsoseng, Lichtenburg, in North West.

Nchang said: "It was awesome to be on that stage together again. It took me back to the golden days and it was great to see that people still love Malaika."

Mholo added: "It was as if we have never performed before. The reception was overwhelming and people were just overjoyed to see us, even though others were sceptical that we might not pitch." Mholo pointed out that for now there were no plans of releasing new music, as they were focusing on mending their broken relationship and performing on stage.

"We don't want to raise people's hopes [and expectations] and not deliver. With time we will make those announcements.

"If you haven't worked together in a long time you need to gel together again and get that glue together."

Malaika will be joined at the concert by Doc Shebeleza, Thebe, Trompies and Dino Bravo.

Shot left, after robot or shot right? #Toyota has launched it's new minibus #taxi

Although minibus taxis might test our patience at times, they are a vital part of the way most South Africans move about. The big news is that the sixth-generation of Toyota's venerable HiAce has been revealed and it promises to deliver a vastly superior commuting experience, for the many South Africans who use privatised public transport each day.

The new HiAce is significantly longer than the current version, which sells in massive numbers locally – marketed under the Quantum badge. Most of the sixth-generation HiAce's additional length (570mm), is credited to its longer wheelbase and redesigned profile, which now includes a bonnet.

Toyota wanted to create a minibus that was safer, better to drive and more aerodynamic. Changing the HiAce's shape from a flat-nose minibus to one with a slight bonnet helps to achieve all these goals.

That redesigned front features better crash-impact energy dissipation and cleaves through air with less drag, improving overall efficiency and lowering fuel consumption at cruising speeds.

Inside, the HiAce will feature an all-new cabin with contemporary Toyota utility switchgear and instrumentation. It will also be configurable for a seating complement of between 12- and 15.

Another crucial element of evolution concerns the engine options available with new HiAce. It borrows the excellent Hilux sourced 2.8-itre turbodiesel engine, good for 130kW and 450Nm. Drive is to the rear wheels, via six-speed transmissions – either manual or automatic. In the case of the manual gearbox version, torque output from the engine is limited to 420Nm.

Toyota will also offer a 3.5-litre V6 petrol option, with a similar choice of gearboxes to the abovementioned diesel set-up. For those HiAce drivers who frequent hilly areas with junctions or traffic lights, the presence of hill-start assist will be a tremendous benefit in their daily driving experience.

Improved safety is an aspect which Toyota's HiAce engineers have paid specific attention to. The new van features electronic stability control and with its longer wheelbase, should be notably more stable at speed than the Quantum it replaces.

Considering the boundless popularity of Quantum within the South African taxi industry, expect Toyota to keep building the current version for a good few years into the future – a logical conclusion, since production is localised, in Durban.

For those taxi operators who frequent the long-distance people transport routes, the new HiAce could make weekend and vacation journeys home a lot safer and more enjoyable for the many South Africans who rely on them.

New media is taking over but what does it take to be a #YouTube sensation? Mzansi's own star gives us the tips

Here's how to build a massively-successful YouTube channel, according to Suzelle DIY.

Prominent South African YouTuber and actress Suzelle DIY's big break came when the episode of How to Make a Braai Pie went viral, Julia Anastasopoulos, the creator and star of Suzelle DIY, says.

The braai pie episode would go on to be viewed over 1,1 million times on YouTube, leading to 143 000 YouTube subscribers and an Instagram following of close to 17 000.

From YouTube, Anastasopoulos expanded into television, started her own production company Sketchbook Studios, and starred in her own ShowMax series, Tali's Wedding.

She started Suzelle DIY as a natural outflow of her interest in DIY, she says. "We were inspired by the unusual and weird characters that you'd find on YouTube who were demonstrating how to make stuff," Anastasopoulos told Business Insider South Africa.

Initially she kept her name off the credits to ensure viewers believed Suzelle was real.

She gave out her top four tips on being successful on YouTube.

Love what you make: "Youtube is a long-term commitment and ongoing project," Anastasopoulos said. People should always produce content they are passionate and excited about.

Have patience: Anastasopoulos said she gained recognition only after her Braai Pie video — the eleventh video she produced — went viral. "I think people expect to go viral instantly and when they don't they stop," she said. "It's important to keep making content because you keep learning and your content improves."

Be consistent: "In order to entertain your audience and keep them engaged it is best to make a weekly date with them," Anastasopoulos said. "Weekly uploads are the way to go."

Listen to your audience: Analytics are there for a reason, she said. Creators should closely examine their audience's likes, dislikes, and comments. "If you see one of your videos has more views and comments than another, it almost always means that this is what your audience wants to see more of." — Business Insider SA. Believe it or not, only 56 people are licensed to use cannabis meds in SA

There are 56 people in South Africa who have been granted special dispensation to import and use medicines containing cannabis, the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority (Sahpra) said.

Everyone else who is selling and using medicines containing dagga or its derivatives are doing so illegally, Sahpra warned in a statement — and that carries more than one kind of risk.

"Suppliers and users of such illegal products are exposing themselves and others to legal and health risks as the safety, efficacy and quality of these products cannot be assured," it said.

And it knows that "a number of outlets and individuals" are selling products that contain marijuana, or oil from the plant, or derivatives such as tetrahydrocannabinol or cannabidiol for medicinal use.

The 56 licensed individuals are using their imported medicine under section 21 of the Medicines and Related Substances Act, which provides a process to import medicines not licensed in South Africa, as long as such use is motivated for the individual patient by an authorised prescriber.

Ideally such medicines are registered for use in the U.S., Australia, Canada, or Europe.

Other options may be available soon, though. Sahpra also said it has already inspected 16 applicants for licences that would allow them to grow cannabis for medicinal use, and another four applicants have such inspections scheduled. None have yet been approved, but Sahpra said it is taking "a developmental approach".

Under current rules potential licensees have to comply with strict provisions around security — to prevent diversion of any of their produce — and crop integrity, for instance in guarding against unintended cross-pollination of different cannabis strains.

How to avoid wasting food, especially during #loadshedding

So, the power is out and you've got a fridge full of food. Being prepared can help reduce wastage — by planning ahead, you can save your perishables and safeguard your family's health.

Planning for power cuts

It's going to be a while before load shedding is a thing of the past. Check your load-shedding schedule and prepare in advance to store your food safely.

Here's how.

If the power cut is going to be for a long period of time, organise alternative refrigerated storage with friends or family.

Avoid buying a lot of food that needs to be frozen or refrigerated.

Opt for more shelf stable foods, such as canned goods, dried fruit, powdered milk and breads.

Invest in a digital quick-response thermometer to check the internal temperature of your fridge and freezer.

Styrofoam ice boxes are inexpensive so buy some and make sure that you have ice bricks in your freezer at all times.

Adjust the refrigerator to its coldest setting; remove fresh fruit and vegetables to prevent them from spoiling.

Set your freezer at its coldest setting too. Try not to open your fridge or freezer unnecessarily during outages.

Food stored in refrigerators

Your food will remain safe in your refrigerator for two hours. The golden rules are:

• use immediately any food stored in a refrigerator or ice box at more than five degrees Celsius for more than two hours, but less than four hours.

• food stored in a refrigerator or ice box at more than five degrees Celsius for four hours or more, should be discarded.

Food stored in freezers

Freezers that are in a good condition and operate at minus five degrees Celsius or below, can keep foods frozen for between one and two days.

If the freezer door is kept shut, a full freezer can keep food frozen for up to 48 hours, while a half full freezer can keep food frozen for up to 24 hours.

Foods that have partly defrosted but remain very cold (five degrees or less) can be refrozen. As with food in the fridge, if your food has been in a freezer where the temperature has reached more than five degrees Celsius for more than two hours but less than four hours, it should be consumed immediately.

Food stored in a freezer for more than four hours at more than five degrees Celsius, should be discarded.

The disposal of food

When you dispose of food, make sure to always wrap it in newspaper before placing it in the rubbish bin. Without correct disposal, fly breeding may result, which will increase the risk of the spread of infectious diseases. Be prepared during these dark days and take the necessary steps to reduce food waste and keep your family healthy.

Five businesses you can start in 2019 #GirlTalkZA

Savvy entrepreneurs should keep a close watch on consumer and technology trends in 2019.

This, according to Silvertree Internet Holdings Co-founder and MD, Manuel Koser. Having invested in and grown a number of highly successful South African brands, Silvertree's management team sees several business opportunities set to grow exponentially over the coming decade.

Here's the lowdown on consumer and technology opportunities in 2019 and beyond:

Indigenous and ethical: personal and home care products

2019 sees growing potential for personal care products – 'Those with local and indigenous ingredients, ethical sourcing which is kind to nature and the body,' Koser explains. 'There is a lot of room to play in the African haircare market particularly, as it's often overlooked by the major FMCG companies.'

The Silvertree MD also sees increasing room for innovative natural home cleaners as consumers become increasingly environmentally conscious. 'Until now, it was all about the well-known cleaning products the major chemical manufacturers put on the shelves. Now, there's increasing space for new, exciting entrants.'

New beverages

'Locally-sourced ingredients and an earth-first mindset will also play an increasing role in the consumer beverage market. Add to this the fact that major soft drink manufacturers will struggle to produce drinks for increasingly health-conscious consumers. They're often just not quick enough to adjust to changing consumer tastes – particularly the tastes of millennials. Think less about a standard fizzy drink, but rather one that's kind to the body, with natural ingredients. Non-alcoholic: water plus, say, cucumber, or another indigenous ingredient. The market for this will grow.'

Ethical snacking

Plant-based, vegan, ancient grains, ethical, protein-rich snacks – these are just some of the trends Koser sees dominating in the snack segment in 2019 and beyond. It's about unique, tasty, functional foods that cater to the modern, time-starved consumer, Koser explains.

Buy, sell and compare online

In the technology space, marketplaces, e-commerce sites and classifieds will all gain momentum in 2019 and beyond. This encompasses aggregators as well as more unusual online businesses, which are increasingly able to find and reach consumers interested in niche products and services.

'Consider an online ice-cream business. Once, something like that would have been unthinkable,' Koser explains. 'But as consumers demand greater choice, room for niche products like this grows.'

Yet, dabble online and seamless execution and delivery become make-or-break factors. 'Many South African consumers use services such as Google, Amazon, Uber and Spotify daily – world-class products that function on a global scale. You can call an Uber and wait for just two minutes before getting a ride,' Koser explains. 'It's quick and totally seamless. Consumers have come to expect that level of service across the board. Aligned to this is the fact that the millennial wave is currently hitting Cape Town right now, and Joburg secondarily, meaning a number of opportunities are opening up. Go after products and services in the right space and consumers will follow.'

Reinvent the wheel – and make it better

The final type of business entrepreneurs should keep an eye on is those that currently have low Net Promoter Scores. 'This means that very few people like them, or the services they provide are of very poor quality,' Koser explains. 'Think of postal service providers or telecoms companies. With any monopolistic or oligopolistic structures, the service is often terrible because the heavyweights hold so much power. There's a huge gap here.'

An allied approach for entrepreneurs is to assess opportunities for automation, or cutting out the middleman with technology. 'Once, many markets – such as real estate were opaque, meaning you needed a middleman to help you transact. However, as the capabilities of technology have grown, markets have become far more transparent – making it easier for buyers to match with sellers safely. Today, a lot of this is easy to automate services – think about connecting a homeowner to a prospective renter through a digital solution where renters can be qualified, for example, in terms of their finances, personal information and criminal records. Quick and simple. And no middleman.'

The biggest opportunities here centre around where consumers spend the greatest amounts of time and money, Koser notes. 'Housing and rent are always major costs. In terms of where consumers spend their time, on the other hand, much of it is, on a mobile phone, or PC.'

However, entrepreneurial success is never down to anyone magic formula, Koser emphasises. Nor does Silvertree invest in prospective entrepreneurs solely on the basis of the product or service they offer. 'It's about passion, perseverance and tenacity as much as it is about the quality of the product.'

Silvertree Internet Holdings is an investment growth partner who aims to understand, grow and scale business, consumer and digital brands to unlock the brands' exponential growth.

#Safta nominee Sindi Dlathu opens up about her character in #TheRiver1Magic

When The River first aired on our screens in January last year, its opening scene was a bang, literally. Viewers saw Lindiwe Dikana (played by Sindi Dlathu) rush into her Pretoria mansion and shoot herself in the mouth.

We were then taken 12 months back to where the story really began, and last week we made it back to the present day where Lindiwe is in the hospital fighting for her life. It's been a roller-coaster for fans of the show.

I personally found The River to be stressful at times, but always entertaining.

Stars like Dlathu, who was just nominated in the best actress category for a telenovela at this year's South African Film & Television Awards, and Hlomla Dandala, who plays her on-screen husband, have kept us at the edge of our seats.

So have other members of the stellar cast, from Moshidi Motshegwa to Ferry Jele and new faces in the industry like Galaletsang Koffman.

In season one we saw Lindiwe, who owns Khanyisa Diamond Mine, go through many trials and do just about anything to get her way.

Her son Andile, played by Lunga Mofokeng, tried to kill himself after telling his family he was gay, which exposed how homophobic his mother was.

Her husband cheated on her which saw them go to divorce court, but they later decided to fix their marriage, and we saw the township of Refilwe revolt against her, all while she killed a few people and played her dirty games.

Dlathu, who is best known as Thandaza on Muvhango, said that although The River has kept her busy, she loves it. "Being on this show is probably one of the best experiences of my career.

"I've done things that are beyond my wildest dreams, and I work with some of the most amazing people that the industry has to offer. Like my guys who play my family members in the Dikana household," she said.

With The River having all the right elements of a hit drama including celebrated writers like Phathutshedzo Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon, its success was inevitable.

However, Dlathu did not expect it.

"I never expected Lindiwe to be so popular. I think when you're going into a new project, you do your absolute best and hope that the viewers will find something that they like about the show and the character," said Dlathu.

The star also said that one of the biggest challenges about playing Lindiwe is letting go.

"Letting go, and learning to surrender to the character and not judge her has been the biggest challenge.

"I personally don't know anyone like Lindiwe, so I had to find the truth about her in all the madness that she gets up to. I like that she has limits though.

"There is absolutely nothing that is off limits for her," she added.

The actress also said that she does not like Lindiwe's deep-rooted homophobia and how cold she can be towards her children sometimes.

Now in its second season, anything seems possible for the Dikana family, but looking back on season one, Dlathu said she enjoyed every storyline.

"I've been lucky in that all my story-lines have been so much fun. From Lindiwe dealing with Veronica to her wanting to demolish the houses of Refilwe.

"It's two completely different stories that showcased different sides of her, but they were both beautifully done".

Although she was tight-lipped on what to expect in season two, she did say all eyes will be on Lindiwe as the truth unravels, and she is exposed for the liar and manipulator that she is.

The River airs Monday to Friday on 1Magic (Dstv channel 103) at 8pm.

Five #investment do's and don'ts

Young entrepreneurs must set realistic funding requirements, based on needs of their businesses.

Entrepreneurship has been recognised by government as a key driver of future economic growth in South Africa, yet the unfortunate reality is that many of today's budding entrepreneurs rely on their savings to start and build their businesses.

Referring to last year's Real State of Entrepreneurship Survey, which found that 88% of South African entrepreneurs are selffunded Gugu Mjadu, spokesperson for 2019 Entrepreneur of the Year® competition says it's no wonder then that a lack of funding remains one of the primary barriers faced by young entrepreneurs. The competition is sponsored by Sanlam and BUSINESS/ PARTNERS.

In addition to this, Mjadu explains that even for those who do secure funding, there may come a time when you need to supplement it with personal funds.

Mjadu offers the following tips for self-funding one's entrepreneurial dreams.

Create a detailed plan

1. Just as you would be required to do if you were applying for external funding, Mjadu says that the first thing any hopeful self-funded entrepreneur should do is draw up a comprehensive and well-motivated business plan. "From a financing perspective, give specific attention to the risks and rewards associated with the total investment required."

Define realistic funding requirements

2. Once a detailed financial plan exists, Mjadu urges young entrepreneurs to set realistic funding requirements, based on the business' needs. "Based on your business plan, you need to determine the level of funding the business requires at each stage of operation. The 2018 Real State of Entrepreneurship Survey revealed that 28% of entrepreneurs needed less than R10 000, while 30% needed less than R50 000."

Separate and formalize your business savings

3. Right from the onset, Mjadu says that entrepreneurs should keep their business savings separate from their personal savings accounts and investments.

Be Consistent

4. While there are guarantees to be some bumps along the way, Mjadu says that consistency is key when it comes to saving money towards selffunding your business.

Seek professional advice

5. When starting a business, it is important to surround yourself with people in the know. These range from an industry advisor who can be an experienced entrepreneur to show you the ropes within your industry or an financial advisor that can guide you on saving money.

#ValentinesDay is the poets Holiday, says Fifi Cooper

This is how star rapper Fifi Cooper describes Valentines Day...

Valentine's Day is the poet's holiday, which for me would be perfect when it happens unplanned but out of love.

After all, there is no charm equal to tenderness of heart. Of course, every girl needs some roses and chocolates from time to time.

However, of paramount importance to me is being solely in each other's company for the whole day. This can start off with a relaxing spa day and be capped off with a themed dinner and a movie night at home.

How some countries celebrate #ValentinesDay

South Africa has its own quirky Valentine's Day tradition. Today, hundreds of couples will descend on Robben Island for a different type of incarceration when they tie the knot in the annual Valentine's Day mass wedding, which has been attracting lovers since 1999. Couples will journey to the World Heritage Site to exchange their vows in the presence of their loved ones … and crowds of strangers.

Here is a round-up of some of the odd ways people will be celebrating around the world. Perhaps they will inspire you to drop the old cliché of roses and a romantic dinner and do something different on the day of love …

Japan

In Japan, it is women who spoil their men with chocolate. Not just any chocolate will do either, as the expectation is not only that it should be high quality but that it should also be delivered by hand.

Ghana

In Ghana, they celebrate February 14 as "Chocolate Day", with restaurants making sure they have plenty of it on their menus. There are also several museums which have chocolate exhibits on the day. As one of the world's largest cocoa producers, Ghana makes sure people don't forget the influence the country has when it comes to all things chocolate.

Germany

Usually, the heart symbol is printed on Valentine's Day mugs, cards, balloons and just about anything else you can think of.

But not in Germany, where pig-inspired gifts are all the rage. In that part of the world, pigs are seen as a symbol of luck and lust.

Enhle Mbali walks tall as she inches closer to launching her own clothing line

Enhle Mbali Maphumulo is following in the footsteps of Nandi Madida, Rihanna and Victoria Beckham.

The wife of internationally renowned house music maestro DJ Black Coffee confirms she will launch her eponymous fashion label later this year.

The 31-year-old star plans to debut her first collection during SA Fashion Week's Autumn/Winter 2020 runway showcase in the second half of the year.

"I think this is where I take my giant leap because a lot of people don't know that I do fashion. I don't want to give too much away on the clothing I will be making; it's such a competitive market," she said.

"But I think it's going to be something that introduces us to the rest of the world in terms of styling because as Africans we keep it safe and watch what they do internationally first, then follow.

Maphumulo's first taste of the fashion world was when she styled singer Keabetswe "KB" Motsilanyane for her diva tour. "I've always been into fashion. I was a 17-year-old, who styled KB. It was huge for me," she said.

In December, Maphumulo collaborated closely with local couture duo Quiteria & George to create one of Beyoncé's high-fashion stage looks for her performance in SA. "I realised that people only recently discovered I have been doing music videos for my husband, but I have been doing it and styling his art cover"

Are you in the right career? #GirlTalkZA

Many people spend most of their time at work, yet feel as if they're stuck in their jobs. According to Candice Clark, an HR consultant who started doing career coaching three years ago, people need to have clarity to know the direction their career is going in. What's important, she says, is being fulfilled and being part of a company where you can experience great success.

Success, she says, can be defined in monetary terms and being upwardly mobile in the company. "Career clarity is knowing this is it," she sayse

Destiny Connect (DC): Why is it important to know what direction your career should take?

Candice Clark (CC): There is a broad range of wellness outcomes attached to being in a career you find both fulfilling and experience immense success in. Being clear on your career direction seeps confidence and happiness into a huge part of our lives. Who doesn't want that?!

I've found with my clients that once they are clear on their career direction, they exude this amazing balance between confidence and deep inner peace.

DC: How can people gain greater direction?

CC: This is not something that is achieved overnight, but several sessions with a career coach or talent development professional can certainly get you started on the right direction. Essentially, it is about knowing where your skills and passions intersect, and then matching that back to the right career path. For example, what do you love to do and what do you feel you're competent at? That group of work-related activities is your first clue.

Love black like a #Buccaneer? Here is how to wear black and slay it in #summer

Yes, we know summer is all about brights and light colours, but do we really have to put our black outfits away? No way!

Black is a go-to hue for many of us and it's not hard to see why. It goes with everything, is super flattering and is seriously chic. But we always seem to ditch black clothes in the summer, even though we don't have to.

Black may attract heat, but there are a few steadfast rules you can use to rock all black in the summer. If you follow them, you will be back on the stylish dark side in no time.

Check out how these fashion-forward Instagram stars wear black all year round.

1. Choose your fabric wisely. No velvet, no wool and no leather. Black denim is a maybe if it's not too hot, but it is really best to stick with lightweight tops and sandals. Try cotton, linen, lace, mesh, silk, chiffon or anglaise that will keep you looking and feeling cool.

2. Show some skin. It's hot, show off those legs, shoulders and arms. Rock a crop top or a mini skirt or both at the same time. This is the perfect way to wear all black in the summer. If you're not keen on the mini-and-crop-top-combo, try wearing trousers or jeans that are cropped above the ankle and tops that are off-the-shoulder or have simple thin straps.

3. Prints party. Prints can make your all black look a lot more suitable for summer. Prints on a black background, particularly smaller ones, are a fail-safe way to look super fashionable. Our very own Bonang Matheba is a big fan of this style and an even bigger fan of the all black look.

4. Accessorise in style. True lovers of black will want to resist the urge to accessorise their outfits with bursts of colour, but in summer you can make a few exceptions. A pop of colour in the form of a bag or even a ring makes for a hot (pun intended) look.

If colour is not your thing, go for black and white accessories or for neutral seasonal accessories like a straw bag, sunglasses and jewellery in silver or gold.
