President Ramaphosa supports #CellC initiative #GirlChild2018

Cell C's Take a Girl Child to Work Day®, which takes place around South Africa today, has become one of the most important campaigns for schoolgirls around the country.

Annually, Take a Girl Child to Work Day® is hosted by hundreds of corporates, entrepreneurs, the media and government departments as well as the Presidency and continues to spark the debate on the role of socio-economic development and the promotion of gender equality.

Today in Cape Town, President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Minister of Women in the Presidency, Bathabile Dlamini, hosted a group of learners from various Western Cape schools while two learners from Pretoria Girls High visited South Africa's Public Protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

Cell C offices around the country were a buzz of activity when numerous learners from various schools were welcomed to their place of work, allowing them to job shadow and explore various careers and interests.

Says Suzette van der Merwe, Cell C Managing Executive: Corporate Social Investment:
"The much-lauded initiative – which celebrates its 16th anniversary this year – has had a powerful impact on the lives of more than a million girls since its inception, preparing a core of future women leaders and leading job creators for our country."

Says Cell C Western Cape Managing Executive, Nezaam Harris: "We are delighted that in some small way we have been able to make a difference for these learners and wait to see what they accomplish going forward."

This year, Cell C is encouraging civil society, government departments and fellow South Africans to not only host girls on one day, but to expand on the programme and offer opportunities to girl learners throughout the whole year, driving its #morethanaday initiative with a sustainable and long-term approach.
