The heavyweights from the New Zealand Conference know what it’s like to battle their South African counterparts, and Saturday won’t be the first time that the Crusaders and Hurricanes line up against the Lions and Sharks.


The Crusaders sneaked out of Joburg with a 43-37 win against the Lions in Round 6, albeit with Baby Bear’s share of the possession and territory stakes. And the Sharks quelled the Hurricanes emphatically in a 32-15 win when the teams met at Kings Park in Round 11.

But what bearing do those results have on this week’s quarter-finals? Do the Lions only need to be six points better than they were in Round 6 to beat the visiting Crusaders? And will the travel factor negate the Sharks’ 17-point advantage from Round 11?
