The tragic death of KwaZulu-Natal social worker Dudu Zulu, who lost her life in a car accident while on a mission to help an abandoned child, has deeply saddened the community.
Zulu, a dedicated social worker from Pongola, was on her way to a child and youth care centre in Vryheid, accompanied by a colleague, to provide care for a toddler who had been abandoned.
The heartbreaking incident occurred when the vehicle they were traveling in lost control, resulting in a fatal crash.
Department spokesperson Mhlabunzima Memela shared details of the accident, stating, "She [Zulu] was ejected through the front windscreen, as were her colleague and the toddler. The child and her colleague survived and are in hospital but Zulu sustained fatal injuries and passed away at the scene."
The KwaZulu-Natal social development department, along with Social development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza, expressed their deepest condolences to Zulu's family and colleagues.
Zulu's selfless act of rescuing an abandoned child highlights her dedication to her work and her commitment to helping those in need, even in the face of danger.
